Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Get Wisdom Bible Studies help women connect with Scripture in an accessible and energizing way. Teresa Swanstrom Anderson guides with a winsome style that is rich in depth, but still approachable for newer readers of the Bible. Let's Follow Joshua's Lead Teresa says, "I don't always lead well. But what I definitely do is search out those who have gone before me and have wisdom to share." After Moses' death, Joshua took over leading the people of Israel. Can you imagine taking over after such a beloved and wise leader? And yet, Joshua led millions of Jews out of 40 years of wandering in the wilderness to ultimately settle down in the land of milk and honey that God had promised them. Leading Wherever You Are dives deep into Joshua's life to see how he led in order to learn from his victories and his mistakes. See how Joshua succeeded and what he did well. And take to heart how he could have led differently and done better. Whatever stage you're in and in whatever capacity you lead, you want to do it well too. Learn how in this study of Joshua.

Book Synopsis The Post-Mortem Vindication of Jesus in the Sayings Gospel Q by : Daniel A. Smith
Download or read book The Post-Mortem Vindication of Jesus in the Sayings Gospel Q written by Daniel A. Smith and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2007-01-06 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Q 13:34-35, the Jerusalem Logion, aligns the rejection of the speaker by Jerusalem both with the abandonment of Jerusalem's house and with the future invisibility and return of the speaker: 'You will not see me until you say, Blessed is the Coming One in the name of the Lord' (13:35b). The coincidence of not seeing language with a reference to a future coming is reminiscent of the connection, in Jewish literature especially, between the assumption and eschatological function. The book proposes that this reference to Jesus' assumption is a clue to how Q conceives of the post-mortem vindication of Jesus, since numerous Q sayings presuppose a knowledge of Jesus' death. In support of this, the book argues that in Hellenistic Jewish writings assumption was not always considered to be an escape from death (as in the biblical instances of Enoch and Elijah), but could happen at or after death, as was more clearly the case in Greek thought. Such a strategy of vindication is necessary for Q because it evidences a belief in Jesus' ongoing existence and future return as the Son of Man, and because resurrection though a feature of Q's eschatology is not individually applied to Jesus. A similar view is presupposed by the pre-Markan empty tomb tradition, which describes the disappearance of Jesus' body but narrates neither the resurrection itself nor an appearance of the risen Jesus. The book also draws out implications of the thesis for the place of the Sayings Gospel Q within the early Christian movements, particularly vis-vis the vindication of Jesus.

Book Synopsis The Sayings Gospel Q in Greek and English by : James McConkey Robinson
Download or read book The Sayings Gospel Q in Greek and English written by James McConkey Robinson and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 2001 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sayings Gospel Q in Greek and English with Parallels from the Gospels of Mark and Thomas is the outcome of a generation's work by the International Q Project, in reconstructing the collection of sayings ascribed to Jesus (and some to John) that lies behind the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. It thus makes available in a convenient form the most important source for reconstructing the message of Jesus' original Galilean followers, as they proclaimed anew after his death his message of God's reign. Q is, as a result, the most important single source for the study of the historical Jesus. It should be in the hands of every student of theology and of every layperson seriously interested in knowing more about Jesus. This small volume presents, on facing pages, the Greek and English reconstruction of the text of Q. It is in a simplified and more readable format than its original massive publication of 1990, The Critical Edition of Q: Synopsis including the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, Mark and Thomas with English, German and French Translations of Q and Thomas, edited by James M. Robinson, Paul Hoffmann, and John S. Kloppenborg, Managing Editor Milton C. Moreland, at Peeters and Fortress Press.

Download or read book Judges written by Miles V. Van Pelt and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2018-03-15 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Judges describes a time in the life of the nation of Israel between the prophetic leadership of Moses and Joshua and the establishment of the monarchy. During that time, “everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 17:6). The most shocking feature in the book of Judges, however, is not the horror of Israel’s sin, but the glory of salvation from that sin. The darkness of Israel’s sin is overcome only by the wonder of God’s salvation worked through a series of memorable judges, who ultimately point us to Jesus Christ. Part of the Knowing the Bible series.

Book Synopsis From Broken Vows to Healed Hearts by : Rebecca L. Mitchell
Download or read book From Broken Vows to Healed Hearts written by Rebecca L. Mitchell and published by Kregel Publications. This book was released on 2018-05-29 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Divorce can be a sensitive topic for Christians. After all, a husband and wife are supposed to be "one flesh." Yet even in the church, divorce rates continue to be substantial. And women are desperate for biblically based guidance, encouragement, and hope--not to sweep their pain under the rug and pretend broken vows don't exist but to know that complete healing is possible. Rebecca Mitchell knows this because she has experienced divorce firsthand. Her marriage crumbled after twenty-five years, and she went through every stage of grief. But one day she realized she needed to stop being trapped by the past and move forward. She refused to accept the role of victim. Her journey to healing and her experience leading a support group in her home church led to a conviction that others could be helped in the same way: through engaged community, biblical self-care, and compassionate reflective practices. This unique book covers topics such as depression, loneliness, forgiveness, hope, and even joy. Each of the twelve chapters includes five days of devotionals and journaling questions. From Broken Vows to Healed Hearts leads readers through the process of realizing that brokenness is a stage, not an identity. Mitchell encourages women to maintain hope for healing, to be patient with the time recovery takes, to be committed to community, and, above all, to seek God.
