Though he was at the brink of death, Joe experienced a miraculous healing. This book describes the struggles and process of how Joe gleaned lessons on surrender; human weakness and God's strength; God's goodness and compassion in a crisis and powerful lessons on faith and prayer. Joe Fornear is Founder and Executive Director of Stronghold Ministry, a non-profit ministry that provides spiritual help to cancer patients and those in crisis. An ordained minister, Joe has a Masters of Theology (ThM) degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. He founded Fellowship Bible Church White Rock in Dallas and pastored the church for 18 years. Book excerpt: Life is a divine journey, full of twists and turns, ups and downs, and amazing moments with God at our side. In Our Journey WITH God, author and speaker Joe Killian reveals how we can move from knowing about God to knowing him personally on this journey with him. After a debilitating illness forced him to resign from his job, Killian cried out to God, "What am I going to do?" The answer came quickly and clearly: "Write the book." At that moment, Killian embarked on a journey through trials and challenges that lasted more than five years, as God taught him how to rely on faith/trust in him and refine the message of Our Journey WITH God. Beginning with a look into our created identity, Our Journey WITH God explores the deepest truth of who you are. Killian's valuable teaching will help you discover how to become all that your heavenly Father has called you to be. In this practical guide, Killian introduces the WITH Compass, which combines the four traits of Willing, Intimate, Trusting, and Humble, to help you build a maturing relationship with the Holy Spirit as you discover your unique purpose in Christ. Whether as part of your personal study or small group discussion, Our Journey WITH God will encourage you to walk boldly in faith and embrace the journey.

Book excerpt: Dangerous thieves lurk in the great outdoors. Hold on to your heart… Tomboy Mungo Caimbeulach seeks her father’s love. Unfortunately, she’s an unwanted imposition rather than a valuable daughter. When the coos she has raised from young are sold without her permission, she’s determined to retrieve them in the time-honored Scothage tradition. She’ll steal her coos, impress her father with this courageous endeavor and prove she’s worthy of his affection. Shapeshifter Joe Mitchell dreams of raising cattle as he did on Earth, and purchasing his foundation herd is the first step. But color him shocked when the thief who steals from him is his mate—according to his feline half. Decisive, he follows in the footsteps of his brothers and captures Mungo. Now his plan is two-fold. Seduction of his feisty mate and safe passage for his cattle. Easier said than done when danger pounces from left and right during their journey home. Mungo isn’t sure what to make of this cat-man with his propensity for stripping naked. Bossy—yes! But she can’t stop sneaking peeks and then there is the kissing and caressing… Contains two strong characters with opposite goals, passion in the great outdoors, and more annoying dangers impeding their romance than Joe cares to mention!

Book excerpt: This book is an inspiration of a real character that I use to see when I was a young girl, he roams around the county this was an exceptionally long time ago, but the story is not about his life, it is a fiction from the inspiration of him. The story starts on a normal life that eventually leads to a disaster that causes Joe to turn his back on his old life. He woke up in the most wonderful spirits of the day, the sun was glorious, he was so happy but as the day went on it turned into a nightmare, he started the day making planes for the future and now he was in fear and anguish in the cloud of uncertainty not knowing what the future held for him. So, the day continued in darkness, what would come next? he closes the door on the past he says goodbye to his friends although he did not have a lot of friends, not knowing which way he will turn, the first part of the journey is not pleasant, but on his journey. He meets up with a little friend, his little friend is in the same situation as Joe, so he has now met a little friend in need of his help. They continue the journey together both not knowing where they will end up, there are a few problems along the way, but they struggle on together. Joe eventually decides, so they head to their destination with great difficulty along the way, they eventually end up in safe hand, they get help and make newer friend, and somewhere to stay but not without a bad turn on their journey. It was not an easy path, but they end up safe in the end. There is a chance meeting, or should I say a very unusual meeting with an embarrassing situation that brings a lot of happiness to Joe's life, and life for him and his little friend. Joe and Patch lives get better by the day, and there is a turning point in their lives not one that usually happens to everyone and their lives go from better to great, Joe discovers he has family but he has to travel to see them and that is a great adventure for him, his other friend is Molly and she is a real character, she makes the decision to go with Joe so they both go together, but Molly has her own ideas about what she wants to do, when they get there Joe enjoys his stay with his family, but Molly goes to visit her friend and cousin then explores America. It is a very unusual holiday for Molly not one she was expecting, she is a person that has no family to worry about so she just ups and goes any were she desires, but this holiday was a revelation for her, will she ever want to go away again? Toward the end Joe is getting older so is Patch. Joe has a lot of health problems, and he leads a noticeably quiet life with Patch, he has an incredibly good friend but misses Molly very much. There are a few twists and turns, I have tried to make it more exciting further on into the story. Molly is a bit of a character, although she has never had children she is not a lonely person, she was a very intelligent child, that when she got older she had a very good job as a school teacher and she had lots of friend too so she was always occupied, she retired at an early age and always wanted to travel and the opportunity come along when she met Joe to go to America. Joe and Molly become exceptionally good friends throughout the book. Joe was a quit man with just the simple thing in life that mattered to him, but Molly was an extremely ambitious sort of a person that if she wanted to do something no one on earth would stand in her way, I have grown to like Molly very much in this story.

Joseph - unintentionally stranded in a parallel time - lives, loves and works here under the identity of "Joe Farmer." His only vague hope of returning to his old real life rests on the shoulders of Professor Browns of Columbia University in New York. Book excerpt: A manifesto-guidebook to one of the American South's most astounding art environments In the summer of 1989, Joe Minter had a vision from God to create art that would honor the shared experiences of African Americans in this country. From that moment, Minter began building a sprawling collection of sculpture and installation works on land adjacent to both his home and the Shadow Lawn Memorial Gardens, a historically black cemetery, in the Woodland Park neighborhood of Birmingham. The result is a continuously evolving art environment that recounts both immediately local and world events that have affected humanity, with a focus on the contributions and tribulations of African Americans. Thousands of visitors from all over the world have visited his yard environment, and Minter's sculptures are now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and many other museums nationwide. On the 30th anniversary of his vision, Institute 193 and Tinwood have reissued To You Through Me: The Beginning of a Link of a Journey of 400 Years, Minter's 2004 self-published creative manifesto and didactic field guide to the African Village in America yard show. Those who cannot visit in person can use this first-person guidebook to experience Joe Minter's yard and learn from his years of thoughtful meditations on history, place and the human condition.

Book excerpt: In 1877, Chief Standing Bear's Ponca Indian tribe was forcibly removed from their Nebraska homeland and marched to what was then known as Indian Territory (now Oklahoma), in what became the tribe's own Trail of Tears. "I Am a Man" chronicles what happened when Standing Bear set off on a six-hundred-mile walk to return the body of his only son to their traditional burial ground. Along the way, it examines the complex relationship between the United States government and the small, peaceful tribe and the legal consequences of land swaps and broken treaties, while never losing sight of the heartbreaking journey the Ponca endured. It is a story of survival---of a people left for dead who arose from the ashes of injustice, disease, neglect, starvation, humiliation, and termination. On another level, it is a story of life and death, despair and fortitude, freedom and patriotism. A story of Christian kindness and bureaucratic evil. And it is a story of hope---of a people still among us today, painstakingly preserving a cultural identity that had sustained them for centuries before their encounter with Lewis and Clark in the fall of 1804. Before it ends, Standing Bear's long journey home also explores fundamental issues of citizenship, constitutional protection, cultural identity, and the nature of democracy---issues that continue to resonate loudly in twenty-first-century America. It is a story that questions whether native sovereignty, tribal-based societies, and cultural survival are compatible with American democracy. Standing Bear successfully used habeas corpus, the only liberty included in the original text of the Constitution, to gain access to a federal court and ultimately his freedom. This account aptly illuminates how the nation's delicate system of checks and balances worked almost exactly as the Founding Fathers envisioned, a system arguably out of whack and under siege today. Joe Starita's well-researched and insightful account reads like historical fiction as his careful characterizations and vivid descriptions bring this piece of American history brilliantly to life.

It tells the story of everyman Joe Gray, a humble trucker desperate to find evidence for the spiritual world and his own place within it. Lonely in his reluctant agnosticism, yet inspired by a persistent sense of the metaphysical, Joe must endure a harrowing journey beset with mind-bending technological obstacles, heartbreaking setbacks, and near-death experiences, before he has any chance of uncovering the truth. But will it be in time to be reunited with the love of his life? Will this newfound understanding enable him to overcome a dark evil that has grown to threaten the world? Joe’s Trip Around the Sun blurs the line between the physical and spiritual worlds to the point where the reader may question the existence of that demarcation altogether.

Book excerpt: For the first fifteen years of our marriage, we were the typical couple. All was well. Our three children were stable and for all intents and purposes, we were the average American family. Like weather slowly changing from calm to tornadic, our lives became a living hell on earth. But slowly, slowly, slowly, the love of my life, my wife Kimberly, began to change. We tried to keep our problems within our immediate family but the reality of the insanity devastated us. We couldn't hide from it anymore. First came the headaches, then the medications to ease the pain, and finally a cocktail of medications and alcohol to slow the progression of what I later learned was her brain fragmenting and disintegrating. No one knew; not even me. We treated the symptoms until her behavior became insurmountable and uncontrollable. The brain is a mystery and remains unharnessed. The power is beyond the scope of human imagination. This oddity called dementia or Alzheimer's disease has been with mankind since the beginning. What is known is that there is a breakdown in the brain. Its highways of communication become gridlocked. Essentially, it starves itself. There is no effective treatment and this disease is irreversible.Forty-seven million people worldwide and nearly six million in the United States have been diagnosed. Of those diagnosed in the United States, 200,000 fall into the category of early-onset. Sadly, it is the 6th leading cause of death. One in ten over the age of sixty-five will become lost in their own mind. These numbers are expected to triple by 2050 with cost skyrocketing. We are facing an epidemic as the baby boomer generation age. What used to be attributed as old age, is now considered Alzheimer's in some shape or fashion. Let's not rule out, sometimes folks just forget. The forgetfulness could be attributed to vitamin deficiency or caused by a thyroid imbalance. There are many factors including genetics, diet, exercise, and environment. Like anything else, if you don't use it, you lose it. This is not just an old person's disease. This disease can strike as early as age twenty-seven.The financial, physical, and emotional toll will be astronomical. Although there are no known cures or effective treatments advances are made every day. This book is a journey of hope. You'll discover coping mechanisms not found anywhere else. Know this, you are not alone. Much like an upcoming hurricane of epic proportions, knowledge is power. Having these tools provide preparation for living with thunder and the aftermath. Ignorance is not bliss. There is a God. You are not forgotten. Never give up.

Book excerpt: Far from bitter or self-pitying, Rock Monster is an honest account of one woman's life-changing experience in a relationship with rock legend Joe Walsh. At once envious, glamorous, debauched and disturbing, it's her long and winding journey from life in the fast lane to sobriety and redemption. Set in the late-eighties and nineties, these are some of Walsh's darkest years, from spiraling addiction to a stunning comeback with the Eagles' Hell Freezes Over tour. Loaded with true stories never before heard, Rock Monster is essential reading for classic rock fans and anyone touched by addiction. Kristin Casey pulls no punches, sharing gritty details with self-awareness, humor, and affection. Sharply written, bold and incisive, it's the worldly-wise tome only an ex-addict, ex-stripper, and ex-rock-chick could give us. In the tradition of women-in-rock survivor tales--by Marianne Faithfull, Crystal Zevon, or Mackenzie Phillips--Kristin Casey pulls a veil on the enduring myth of the lifestyle's glamorous decadence. Rock Monster is a sexy, crazy, cautionary tale of two addicts in love without a single relationship skill.
