Where the creeks and rivers once flowed, there was dried cracked mud. Everything was a sad sight because there wasn't any more water. The people were desperate as they could not work and eat any more. Mommies and daddies went to the grocery store, but there was no more food on the shelves or in the land and the people were hungry, as the 'Great Famine' covered the land. In order to save their 777 famine babies, read the story to find out what the Hebrew people did. This is a family story and third graders and over will enjoy the reading.

There many died of starvation, disease, and exhaustion, and some were killed by criminals and camp guards. This translation by Stefani Hoffman is the first English-language edition of this classic work, originally written in Russian in 1947 and published in an abridged French version in 1949.
