Book Synopsis Suggestopedia and Language by : W. Jane Bancroft
Download or read book Suggestopedia and Language written by W. Jane Bancroft and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-06-27 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1999. Language-acquisition methods are based on the way in which children learn their native tongue, a “successful” approach in which listening comprehension precedes speaking which, in turn, precedes reading and writing. Elements based on unconscious assimilation or indirect attention—among them, Soviet hypnopedia, the Tomatis Method and Sophrology. Methods for unconscious assimilation—and, in particular, Suggestopedia, its variants, its adaptations and its background elements—are the subject of this book. Part I of Suggestopedia and Language Acquisition deals with the theories behind Suggestology and Suggestopedia, in addition to the original suggestopedic language class which was developed in Bulgaria in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Part II discusses the various background and complementary elements to the original version of Suggestopedia: suggestion, yoga, baroque music and music therapy, the teacher as Pygmalion, nonverbal communication and brain research. The third section examines related methods based on unconscious assimilation: Soviet sleep-learning, Sophrology, the Tomatis Approach and the Suzuki Method for music learning. In the fourth and final section, versions and variants are discussed.

Download or read book Teaching Accelerated and Corequisite Composition written by David Starkey and published by University Press of Colorado. This book was released on 2023-11-21 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teaching Accelerated and Corequisite Composition is the first book to compile on-the-ground advice and teaching strategies specifically curated for accelerated and corequisite writing courses. Trailblazers in the field from colleges across the United States—who developed a foundation for corequisites by facilitating equity and accessibility for marginalized students—speak to a range of topics and demographics, offering support for instructors and practical advice for improving student success. The book primarily explores accelerated composition through the lens of two-year colleges to answer a central question in the field: to what extent do educators need to alter two-year college curricular design? The contributors also delve into assessment, a crucial process for instructors and their students transitioning to accelerated learning; the key role that reading plays in the writing process; and noncognitive learning, an area of study that has been associated with accelerated learning since its inception. Together these thirteen chapters provide instructors with a strategic approach to teaching accelerated and corequisite composition. Teaching Accelerated and Corequisite Composition points toward a new way of approaching first-year composition: a method of instruction that fosters the growth and success of writers who were once considered underprepared for college writing and are now achieving unprecedented success.

It addresses the psychology of TCSL/TCFL and discusses various recurring foreign graduate students concerns when learning academic Chinese in graduate institutes in Taiwan. It examines issues of educational assessment and testing, analyzing the validity of a self-made placement test for an immigrant Chinese program, as well as the psychological characteristics of adult learners and their implications for immigrant Chinese curriculum design.
