This book was released on 2012-12-21 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of Praying exercises was developed by Professor David G. Mendes MD and the physiotherapists Kobi Schwartz and Danny Kelman from the Center for Implant Surgery at the Bnai Zion (Rothschild) Medical Center in Haifa, Israel. This method has been tested with rewarding results for more than twenty years. The term Praying Exercises was chosen due to the similarity of some of the movements to those done during rituals in a variety of religions and require concentration and persistence. Praying exercises aim at moving the hip joints in flowing, painless, motions. he system uses 'reverse action ' and 'gravity depended' exercises. The exercises maximize the motion's range that lubricates the articular cartilage and maintain its viability by alternating gentle pressure. The system uses three basic positions: lying down, sitting on a bench and at a later stage standing on hands and knees. These positions allow the trainer to adapt his exercises and routines to his own level of comfort, minimizing pressure and pain on the joints. Praying exercises were developed to benefit people of all ages that suffer from diseases of hip joints such as Arthritis and Rheumatism. These conditions manifest in discomfort and pain in the joints and bony structure of the thighs and pelvis. In most cases, the arthritic joint's tissues inflammatory process causes bony protrusions and cysts and degrades the articular cartilage. This process eventually limits joint motion. As the condition progresses, pain increases until basic motion and actions such as stair climbing and standing up from a sitting position are accompanied by acute pain. At its worse, these conditions inflict pain and long lasting damage to muscles, ligaments and bones, even when in complete rest. Physical exercises are a popular way to improve body function but conventional exercises increase load and pressure on the painful arthritic joint. Therefore conventional methods of exercise are found to be unsuitable for treatment of Arthritis and Rheumatism. In order to alleviate pain and promote healing, Praying Exercises were designed to provide a solution to those people that suffer from painful joints due to degenerative and inflammatory diseases. Furthermore, patients awaiting surgery or recovering from hip surgery will benefit greatly from the procedures described in this book - both in a pain relieving capacity as well as promoting and supporting a full recovery. Experience also showed that the exercises help children affected by Legg- Perthes disease and slipped capital femoral epiphysis.

In holistic health, the entire human being is considered, paying attention to the interatction and integration of the biological and physiological (body and breath), psychological (conscious and unconscious mind) and philosophical (soul) dimensions. The emphasis is on treating the whole patient and not just the symptoms of disease. Man has to realize that he is not a body alone. He is a breathing being and a thinking being with complex emotions, appetites and desires. To maintain good health, the following guidelines must be considered: Nourish and exercise the physical body Make the breath deep, smooth, even and continuous Discipline the senses Quieten the mind Calm the emotions Cultivate contentment Discover the inner being, the soul or center of consciousness The purpose of life is to be happy and free from pains, fears and miseries. This can be achieved by practicing a self-training program as set forth in this manual.

Book excerpt: An often surprising and always sure-footed survey of the magic of yoga and Calcutta's role in bringing it to the world' JOHN ZUBRZYCKI 'Interweaving historical facts with Armstrong's own experiences ... the result is a book which is neither an autobiography nor a purely scientific work - quite a unique mixture ... it moves me' CLAUDIA GUGGENBÜHL 'I wish I was doing what he is doing [in Calcutta Yoga]' BISHWANATH GHOSH The epic story of how Buddha Bose, Bishnu Ghosh and Yogananda took yoga from Calcutta to the rest of the world. In Calcutta Yoga, Jerome Armstrong deftly weaves the multi-generational story of the first family of yoga and how they modernized the ancient practice. The saga covers four generations, the making of a city, personal friendships, and shines light on the remarkable people who transformed yoga and made it a truly global phenomenon. Along the way, we also meet the people who founded the schools of yoga that are so well known today. Enriching the cast of characters are the internationally renowned B. K. S. Iyengar, Mr Universe Monotosh Roy, even as the book uncovers the truth about Bikram Choudhury, the founder of Bikram Yoga. We follow them and others from the streets of Calcutta to the United States, London, Tokyo and beyond, where they perform astounding feats and help revise Western perceptions of yoga. Cleverly researched and enjoyably anecdotal, Calcutta Yoga gives a holistic picture of the evolution of yoga, and pays homage to yogic heroes previously lost from history, while highlighting the pivotal early role the city of Calcutta played in redefining the practice. A culmination of rigorous fieldwork and numerous interviews, this book is as much about yoga as it is about history, relationships and human nature.

Book excerpt: A fundamental Taoist practice for enhancing and utilizing chi • Includes breathing and movement exercises to promote vitality and healing through the cultivation of chi in the tan tien and perineum areas • Presents the foundational exercises that are essential for more advanced practices such as Iron Shirt Chi Kung and Cosmic Healing Tan Tien Chi Kung is the art of cultivating and condensing chi in the lower abdomen--the tan tien--the fundamental power storehouse of the body. Known as the Ocean of Chi to the ancient Taoists, this lower abdominal area holds the key to opening the body and the mind for the free and continuous movement of chi. Tan Tien Chi Kung contains specific breathing and movement exercises that develop the power of the chi stored in the body to increase vitality, strengthen organs, and promote self-healing. Mantak Chia explains how these exercises also provide a safe and effective method for receiving earth energy, which allows the practitioner to achieve balance physically, mentally, and spiritually--all of which are essential for the more advanced practices of Iron Shirt Chi Kung and Cosmic Healing. It is our mind that directs and guides our chi, but if the mind and body are out of balance or under stress, the mind cannot perform this function. The tan tien actually contains a large quantity of neurotransmitters, making it a key source of body intelligence. It is for this reason the Taoists also referred to Tan Tien Chi Kung as Second Brain Chi Kung and created exercises that would allow practitioners to gain awareness of the tan tien’s function to restore the mind-body balance that is essential for spiritual growth and optimal well-being.

Book excerpt: his book combines the perspectives of a dedicated yogi with that of a former anatomy professor and research associate at two major American medicine schools. He has set himself the ambitious goal of combining the modern scientific under- standing of anatomy and physiology with the ancient practice of hatha yoga. The result of an obvious labour of love, the book explains hatha yoga in demystified, scientific terms while at the same time honouring its traditions. It should go a long way in helping yoga achieve the scientific recognition it deserves. Useful as both a textbook and a reference work, this is a book that all serious yoga teachers and practitioners will want on their shelves.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An uplifting, lighthearted, and compelling memoir that recounts the author's lifelong spiritual journey. The grief from the passing of his mom is transformed to gratitude, forgiveness, and joy as he moves along the healing path with the help of his dog, Roy. Along the way, the author, Daniel Hertz, becomes a devoted meditation practitioner and an award-winning teacher and counselor. A pivotal part of the journey is a nearly monthlong stay at a mountain shrine in India where Hertz meets a swami who eventually arranges his marriage. The story merges lively classroom scenes from his thirty-one years as a teacher and counselor in the Minneapolis Public Schools with his twenty-six-year adventure as a student and faculty member at the Meditation Center in Minneapolis. Looking back over his life, Hertz sees that true healing began when he accepted that the one thing in life certain to happen is change.
