Book excerpt: Excerpt from Joint Report Upon the Survey and Demarcation of the Boundary Between the United States and Canada: From the Western Terminus of the Land Boundary Along the Forty-Ninth Parallel, on the West Side of Point Robert, Through Georgia, Haro, and Juan De Fuca Straits, to the Pacific Ocean In accordance with the above provisions, the line as now reestablished consists of twelve straight line courses, the ends of which are fixed by reference marks on the shore. It has a total length of 150 statute (13021; nautical) miles. Beginning at the western terminus of the land boundary along the forty-ninth parallel on the west side of Point Roberts (a peninsula extending south from the mouth of the Fraser River, B. O), the line runs westward to the middle of Georgia Strait; thence southwestward through Georgia Strait to a point off Saturna Island; thence south ward between Saturna and Patos Island, through Haro Strait, to Middle Bank Shoal; thence southwestward, then northwestward through Juan de F uca Strait to the terminus at the Pacific Ocean. The work of the Commission, as set forth in this report, consisted of selecting available lighthouses which would be suitable for Boundary reference marks.
