Book excerpt: In 2017, Joey Dumont took a break from his career to write a memoir called, Joey Somebody, The Life and TImes of a Recovering Douchebag. His book explores his experience with the very heavy topics of parental neglect, arrogance, insecurity, anxiety, mental health and episodic depression through the lens of dark humor and self deprecation. He also launched a podcast called, Laugh Your Cry Out, where he invites his weekly guests to share their own stories of a less than optimal childhood-where nothing is off limits-and laughing at oneself is recommended. Joey believes that laughter is the beginning of healing. And is now on a mission to prove just that.

A gem of a read!”—SUE GRAFTON, author of S Is for Silence Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, and Peter Lawford are the Kings of Cool—the Rat Pack. Ocean's 11 is their first movie together and they have taken Sin City by storm—filming during the day and cavorting onstage at the Sands Casino at night. It's clear not everyone is charmed, however, when Dean begins receiving anonymous threatening letters. Eddie Gianelli, also called Eddie G., is a pit boss at the Sands. After twelve years, he's got the whole town wired. But he's still surprised when Joey Bishop drops by his table and invites him to meet with Frank in the Rat Pack's private steam room. Frank asks Eddie to find out who's been sending the threats, as a favor to him and Dean. Eddie wants to politely decline, but caught between his boss, Jack Entratter's, not-so-subtle nudging and being utterly starstruck by Dino, he agrees to look into it. He gets help from his P.I. best friend and a Jewish torpedo from Brooklyn. A few dead bodies and bruised ribs later, he remembers why he was reluctant. In a city of gamblers, Eddie has become the highest roller of all. The game is murder, and the stakes just may be his own life. Robert J. Randisi, the man Booklist claims "may be the last of the true pulp writers," takes his readers on a vivid, neon-lit tour of back rooms, bars, and famed gambling dens of the desert mirage that was—and still is—Las Vegas. Broads, blackjack, and bourbon flow. Celebrities, from John F. Kennedy to Angie Dickinson, strut in and out of this amazing first in a series that Rat Pack fans and crime fiction lovers will not want to miss. PRAISE FOR ROBERT J. RANDISI "This is a tremendously entertaining novel. If you're a fan of the Rat Pack, it's sacred."—T. Jefferson Parker, author of The Fallen "Randisi portrays splendid, seedy Vegas with a fresh and stunning perspective, making this a superb re-creation of those halcyon days and the hippest mystery of the year."—Ken Bruen, author of The Vixen "A terrific idea beautifully executed by one of the best storytellers in the business."—Max Allan Collins, author of Road to Paradise "Randisi delivers a masterpiece of plot and style, blazing with the bloody colors of early '60s Vegas."—Ed Gorman, author of the Sam McCain series "Guys in sharp suits, dice, cards, broads, booze—Randisi writes about it all as if he were a brother rat. What a time! What a town! What a book!" —John Lutz, author of Fear the Night

Now manipulative and hateful, the once sweet and charming Joey is long gone. This is the poignant story of a defiant addict and the mother who won't give up on him. She finally realizes that it hurts more to hand on than to let go, and that letting go is not the same as giving up. Sandra Swenson beautifully orchestrates a mother's lessons of love and loss, while surviving her son's addiction. Despairing parents of addicts will find comfort in this stark, yet hopeful tale.

Book excerpt: A group of outcasts with extraordinary abilities must save a crumbling world from annihilation in this gripping follow-up to The Nobody People. Fahima Deeb changed everything seven years ago when she triggered the Pulse, imbuing millions of people with otherworldly gifts like flight, telekinesis, or superhuman strength. She thought that would herald the end of the hostilities between those with abilities and those without, but it instead highlighted a new problem: There is someone behind the scenes, able to influence and manipulate these newly empowered people into committing horrible acts against their will. Worse still, that shadowy figure is wearing the face of Fahima’s oldest friend, Patrick Davenport. Fahima is horror-struck when she realizes that Patrick has built an army entirely under his control to wipe out all who oppose him. With nowhere to turn and few she can trust, Fahima must rely on uncertain allies: Carrie Norris, whose illusion of a normal life vanishes at Fahima’s reappearance. Clay Weaver, a retired soldier fighting to keep his husband and son safe—and to keep Patrick from taking over his mind. And, finally, Emmeline Hirsch, adrift and untethered from her ability to travel through time. Together, they might be able to topple Patrick’s shadowy regime . . . though it may spell destruction for the entire world.

When the Ramones recorded their debut album in 1976, it heralded the true birth of punk rock. Unforgettable front man Joey Ramone gave voice to the disaffected youth of the seventies and eighties, and the band influenced the counterculture for decades to come. With honesty, humor, and grace, Joey’s brother, Mickey Leigh, shares a fascinating, intimate look at the turbulent life of one of America’s greatest—and unlikeliest—music icons. While the music lives on for new generations to discover, I Slept with Joey Ramone is the enduring portrait of a man who struggled to find his voice and of the brother who loved him.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Witness the Drama and Recovery from a Traumatic Accident New Book tells the story of a young man struggling to recover from a near-death experience Recovering from any injury is never an easy goal, but for Joey in “Be that as it May” experiencing TBI (other wise known as Traumatic Brain Injury by the medical profession) was one of the toughest things a person can go through. Looking normal and trying to portray yourself/himself as such, can and is a bit much. Joey understands that everybody has their challenges and the events we experience in our lives makes us who we are. If nothing ever happens, it’s like living in a closet. The story that the book is about was inspired by events that happened during the author’s life, after the injury. It begins when a terrible accident changes the direction of life and ravages Joey, a struggling young man who is on his way to being one of New York City’s Bravest in only four days is the physical examination for the department that he has spent months preparing for. He played sports most of his life and this was just another goal that he had to achieve, and give him a future. Brought up in a family of cops and firemen, you could say it’s in his blood. He knew what he had to do to achieve his goal and being physically fit was the main thing. The injury that changed everything, in a matter of looking at it, changed everything. This book can be looked at in many ways. Whichever one you choose is your opinion and is all I can do is hope that the inspiration is intertwined with appreciation. Because of this event, it has changed not only Joey’s perception but his acceptance. If you can’t change it, don’t worry about it. The key to longevity. Be That As It May emphasizes that trauma is a double edged sword, not only accidents cause but also the ramifications of any injuries sustained in them. The effects are not only physical. Physical also effects psychological. In a matter of looking at things you notice that physical pain effect psychological reasoning. After all, why do you think physical torture works so well?

Book excerpt: A hilariously dark thriller about two very different New York couples. The DePinos are miserable, living in a rundown apartment above a deli on Tenth Avenue. The Sussmans live in a posh building on the Upper East Side. When Joey DePino loses his job and is threatened by his bookies and loan shark, he involves the Sussmans in a sick, desperate plan to pay off his gambling debts. But ad exec David Sussman has his own problems trying to stop his suddenly psychopathic mistress from ruining him, and he won't go down without a fight. As the lives of the DePinos and the Sussmans become increasingly intertwined, Joey and David plunge their families into an amoral world where anything is possible and nothing is personal. Part crime novel, part unflinching satire of compulsive gambling, eating disorders, and cold-blooded evil, Nothing Personal firmly establishes Jason Starr as one of the most exciting young noir novelists around.
