Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jodie goes to the zoo is the result of a creative exercise participated by young author, Shastra Selvananthan. Shastra was five then and she narrated the story as part of the creative exercise. She then wanted to share her story with her friends and suggested it should be presented as a book. Shastra revisited the narration a year later when she could read and write better. She sought the help of her sister and grandpa when she designed the book and duly acknowledged them in her book. She made sure that she had a say in the colour of the cover and the photos that were added as part of the content. She also learnt to read the book herself before it was published so that she can present her book in her show and tell session at school. Shastra's interest to learn to read has been the remarkable result of her creative exercise conducted by Gemz Creative Arts.

Book excerpt: Happily Ever After is a beautiful love story about a young mother and wife that found herself madly in love with two men that could not be more different. First, the stable husband and father of her son. Normal job, normal hobbies, normal, normal, normal. The second, a very new, very young man that traveled the world, was very energetic and pulled Jodie out of a shell that she didn't even know she was in. When she spent time with Justin, it felt like they were the only two people in the world, which was a good thing, considering they couldn't keep their hands off each other when they were together. Ron had to put it on a to-do list if he was even going to hold her hand, but he also had the baby. Someone Jodie could never imagine walking away from. Jodie was so torn between the two that all the stress and emotional turmoil literally started making her sick. After several close calls, Jodie's nightmare became reality. She returned from a business trip and curiosity got the best of Ron. Her went through her suitcase while she was in the other room and found out everything. After a number of very tense days and a lot of heart to heart communication, they decided to try to heal together. Ron was truly a saint through the process. The three of them worked very hard to put the pieces back together and move forward. With a lot of heartache and a lot of hard work, they were able to establish a new, stable, sensible relationship. It was at that time that they all realized that sometimes good does come from the darkness.

A Harem of Fondled Hatred”: An Historical Interrogation of Sexual Violence against Women in Film explores the pernicious nature of rape in films from the silent era to the 21st century. Film is an excellent medium through which to hold this discussion, because film, like the body, as Judith Butler, et al. suggest, is fluid and indeterminate, and it is often contemplated as a site for negotiation and resistance. This book addresses three major questions: (1) why does rape persist as a recurring theme in film, (2) how is this subject manifested in film and (3) what does this manifestation say about the act of rape itself, its victims, its perpetrators and our culture? Rape is a sexual manifestation of aggression with the purpose of overpowering, humiliating, and hurting its victims. An examination of media accounts has revealed that before the evolution of feminist film theory and the dismissal of the Production Code, the rape victim in films usually fits into one “neat” set of criteria (e.g., young adult, white, single, middle class, heterosexual). When the victim’s physical makeup deviated from the traditional set of criteria (e.g., a child or a mature person of color, married, poor, homosexual), the rape was portrayed more violently. The research for this book dwells on the portrayal of the latter type of victims because their sexual violations evoke an absorbing commentary on society’s reaction toward those who do not easily fit within the status quo. What is it about the makeup of these victims that makes their violations more horrific?

Each story details the political, social, and environmental destruction of our world as Artificial Intelligence takes over the planet. With intelligence, insight and humor, Baker examines what it means to be human in a world where Cyborgs and robots rule. Ranging from chilling visions of Armageddon to haunting stories of the power of human love, with some comic relief thrown in to make the truth easier to handle, this groundbreaking collection of short stories faces the questions scientists, politicians and corporations are ignoring: when Artificial Intelligence becomes "self-aware" and is a thousand times more intelligent than any human being, what happens next? Scientists tell us that this "Singularity" will occur by 2030. "What is human?" will become the most important question in history as humans become 51% or more machine.
