Dans l’Italie ostrogothique et l’Afrique vandale où la tradition romaine des spectacles perdura, certains intellectuels comme Luxorius de Carthage se firent les chantres des spectacles romains ; d’autres comme Cassiodore essayèrent de concilier les spectacles et le christianisme, par le biais d’une virtuosité littéraire et culturelle.
