Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where is this church of power that we see in the Book of Acts? Where are the local bodies of believers that manifest the supernatural power of God today? Has the desire to preach the gospel and win souls all but disappeared from the local church? This intense and challenging book seeks to answer the simple question. “How did Jesus intend every local church to be built.” It will present the ten most basic principles in the building of every local church. After some 30 years of doing seminars on the ‘concept of build’ every church that received this teaching has admitted to applying less than two of these principles. As a result, many sitting in the church pews are just not saved. Further, there is a lack of discipleship to equip the saints to go forth and advance the kingdom of God. The hope of this book is to see a restoration of local churches. Churches that will turn from their traditions and man-made ways of growing a church to building a church that the Lord will take pleasure in and be glorified.

Book excerpt: The word 'church' does not refer to a building or an organization, but to a people who understand their identity in Christ. In Matthew 16:18, Jesus basically said that, "...you are 'peteros' (speaking of a rock-splinter or a small piece of rock, which comes from a bigger rock 'petra') and upon this 'petra', upon this revelation of who I am and who you are; upon this revelation of My true identity and your true identity revealed, I will build My 'CHURCH', My 'EKKLESIA', My people who know and believe their identity revealed in Me, and the gates of hades, spiritual strongholds of ignorance and blindness, the very forces of darkness itself, will not prevail against them!" When I discover Jesus for who He really is, He shows me who I really am. I am no longer a simion - like a reed, you know, just following and leaning towards whatever direction the wind is blowing. No, He shows me my true identity. He makes me a petros - a rock. Steadfast and immovable, secure in that identity, in that image of me revealed in Him. And now Jesus says that "the gates of hell, the gates of hades; the resistance of the enemy to maintain his ground will not prevail against us!" That means that as we share these things with people, the enemy will not prevail in his efforts to keep them ignorant and deceived concerning their true identity revealed in Jesus!

So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." (You will notice that in giving this answer they are saying that everyone they had talked to said that He was someone from the past). He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living GOD." Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."Here we have a short passage in which Peter, as a representative or spokesperson for the other disciples, recognized under GOD's inspiration that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of GOD. As soon as he said this, Jesus then says in response that He will build His church. It is as if having confessed this to Jesus, having come to the realization of who He was, then Jesus said; "Great, that's what I was looking for and now I can begin to build My church." Then He adds that the gates of Hades will not prevail against it, meaning that now that it has begun it will go on forever until its purpose is accomplished; but we know from secular history, and we can see bits and pieces of it within GOD's Word, that within a couple of generations the church Jesus founded had been corrupted both from within and without. However, Jesus' word stands true in that He did found that church and it will continue despite death, despite all the machinations of Satan the Devil, and it will continue and does continue to this day. By the beginning of the second century the church that appears under the name Christian is nothing like the one that turned the world upside down after that day of Pentecost in AD 31. Biblical scholar Jesse Lyman Hurlburt who said that when the curtain was raised on the second century, the church that appears as Christian is totally different from the one that Jesus founded. It certainly seemed that when the corruption set in on the church that it would collapse and die, but the few faithful children of GOD went underground for the most part. They fled to remote but still peaceful areas of the Roman Empire and even went beyond the empire where they could practice their faith without persecution. The church that was left behind by these faithful people became this corrupted church. This visible, corrupt church appropriated the name "Christian" and took on a form of righteousness that adhered in some ways to the teachings of Christ but as the decades rolled on it found itself unable to even uphold many of those. By the time you get to the fourth century and the time of Constantine and the great councils of that church, they had rejected a major portion of true Christianity, but they continued on as the visible church. This corruption in that visible church became especially evident during the late Middle Ages in the 14th and 15th centuries. Lately, I have been reading a book called A Distant Mirror: the Calamitous 14th Century by Barbara W. Tuckman, which I highly recommend. It is an excellent historical survey of the cultures, people, and events during the time of the Hundred Years War. The Hundred Years War was that great war between England and France that just dragged on and on because of the territorial ambitions of the kings of England. One of the major players in this century and in these wars was the Roman Catholic Church. That was the name of the successor of that visible Christian but corrupt church that came out of the second century.

Book excerpt: This voluminous work on Church History by Philip Schaff (1819-1893) was originally published between 1858 and 1893 in eight volumes in the USA and covers the period from the beginnings of Biblical Christianity in A.D. 1 to the History of the Reformation in Germany and Switzerland (1517-1648). Being still a popular text in North America, this work had been out of print for over a century and has now been carefully edited and reformatted for republication in three volumes, each of them containing the text of two volumes of the original edition. Schaff’s work, unlike other works in the field, covers a multitude of church history-related aspects – from church doctrine, policy, events and processes to aspects of social moral and family life, arts and more. It is a very comprehensive text, extremely well-written and readable, rich in material and sources used, and attests to the excellence of protestant German theological scholarship under the influence of emerging Historical-Critical Biblical Exegesis at his time. This first volume covers the period from the beginnings to the Ante-Nicene Fathers (A.D. 1-311).

It is a design or pattern that can be followed. When we sit down to build something, we normally draw up a blueprint and then follow the design carefully. A blueprint helps you determine what to do. In this manual "The House of God" our goal is to discover God's blueprint for local churches and local communities of believers. We also share practical ways to build local churches according to God's blueprint. Our goal is not to present one set of "methods" and "techniques", but rather discover what God wants the local church to be. Each one of us will have to make our own journey with God as we develop our local congregations according to God's blueprint. Each one of us will have to discover our own expression of this blueprint in our local communities. Since God is a creative God, He has many ways and many expressions of His blueprint. The one common denominator is that we are all pursuing the same blueprint for each local church. The blueprint describes God’s design. It is God’s original intent. It highlights main characteristics. It describes key features. It points to important focus areas. When we follow His blueprint, we know we are moving in the right direction and will eventually arrive at the right destination for our local churches. Your Ministry And God’s Blueprint Regardless of what your ministry is inside or in relation to the local church, it is important that what you do is aligned to God’s blueprint for His people. As a pastor or senior pastor your responsibility is to ensure that the local church is growing and developing in all dimensions according to God’s blueprint. As an itinerant evangelist, teacher, prophet, or apostle, whenever you minister to a congregation, your goal is to help impart and increase the congregation in some way according to God’s design for the local church. Whether you serve as a youth pastor, worship leader, in children’s church, in women’s ministry, in men’s ministry, or in small groups, you are working toward establishing God’s blueprint in the lives of His people in that local church. Follow God’s design closely and you will not go wrong! Watch our online Sunday Church service live stream every Sunday at 10:30am (Indian Time, GMT+5:30). Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the definition of the church? What did Jesus mean when he said he would build his church? Jesus and His Church answers these questions through a concise look at the initial earthly, post-resurrection, and post-ascension ministries of Christ, revealing how his life and work relate to today's church. Scriptures from the Old Testament are presented from the perspective of God's original intention for mankind and the church. The ministry of the apostles, the preaching of Peter at Pentecost, the differences between Peter and the man Paul, and his ministry are revealed as continuations of what Jesus meant when he said, "I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." This book is doctrinal, refuting erroneous teachings that torment the church. Jesus and His Church places the church in correct perspective with the original intentions of God through the ministries of Christ his Son. It is educational to believers and convincing to nonbelievers. Revealed truth seen in the life of Christ written in Jesus and the Church will clear up confusion and any burden concerning what Jesus said and what preachers and teachers say about the church. This book will guide those who have veered off God's intended path through convincible deception back to the path where they belong and where God has always wanted them to be. May it be so in all our lives.

We need to see Him as God sees Him. Yet this can only come about by revelation from above. The Holy Spirit will reveal Jesus to us. And when we do see Him as God sees Him, we will fall down and worship. Such, then, is the intent of this series of messages, whose overarching theme is best summed up in the author’s choice of title to the entire series: “But We See Jesus” (Hebrews 2:9a). All nineteen messages were delivered by the author before a Christian audience in Richmond, Virginia over a three-year period, commencing in the year 1992. May God use this volume to inspire His people to see the Savior and Lord we have so that we may truly worship Him with all our hearts and love Him with all our heart, mind, will and strength. Jesus alone is worthy!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians are unable to give the names, or many details, of Jesus’ twelve disciples and yet we can learn many lessons from their lives. Each of them had his own personality but Jesus was able to change and use them in the service of the Kingdom of God. They had faults like we do. They were a mixed bunch of people, each with their own gifts and struggles. God calls all sorts of people, and we cannot forget that Jesus was selecting men for a leadership role in the early church. We can use the example of the apostles to inspire and teach us. This is a tremendously useful book that will have a place on many a minister’s bookshelf. From Andrew through to Judas, Ian Fleck’s survey is detailed but accessible and never dry. This is a timely book, coming at a time when many in the church are speaking of the need for discipleship, yet, all too often, little or nothing is ever said of the first disciples. This book opens up their lives to us. Rev. Dr. Paul Bailie Chief Executive, Mission Africa (Working in Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Chad and Kenya) Inspired by material concerning the Twelve disciples which he has assembled from the Four Gospels, and in interaction with other Scripture texts and some ancient traditions, Ian Fleck in this series of meditations has succeeded in deriving, from the lives of Jesus’ choses followers, challenging, inspirational and practical lessons for readers to apply in discipleship of Christ today.
