Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Światowe Spotkanie RodzinFiladelfi a, Pensylwania, 22-27 września 2015 r. „Rodzina, która doświadcza radości wiary, daje temu wyraz w sposób naturalny. Rodzina, to sól ziemi i światło świata; to drożdże życia społecznego”. "We are called to acknowledge how beautiful, true and good it is to start a family, to be a family today... We are called to make known God's magnificent plan for the family...as we accompany them amidst so many difficulties." - Pope Francis, February 20, 2014 For Pope Francis, as for his predecessors Saint John Paul II and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, this is more than just talk. It is a rallying cry. This is the focus of the 2015 World Meeting of Families: Love is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive. For Catholics everywhere, it is a time to renew our focus on the family, the "domestic church" - what it means, why it's important, how it fits in with God's plan for us, and how we can become who God created us to be. Here is a new, fresh, and insightful way to do just that. In Love is Our Mission, you can easily explore Catholic teaching on marriage, family, sexuality, children, human dignity, and the sanctity of life. It's a guided tour through scripture and 2000 years of Church teaching in which you are awakened to the relationship God wants to have with you, the family, and ultimately the world. Self-reflection or group discussion questions bring the teachings home in a very real and practical way. As Pope Francis has said, we must, "keep before us the beauty of the family and marriage, the greatness of this human reality which is so simple and yet so rich..."

Book Synopsis Soundings and the Politics of Sociolinguistic Listening for Transnational Space by : Kinga Kozminska
Download or read book Soundings and the Politics of Sociolinguistic Listening for Transnational Space written by Kinga Kozminska and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2023-12-14 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world dominated by the visual, this book presents how a focus on the sounded experience and acts of listening may carve a way to reformulate emerging publics, create space for critical multilingual engagement and deepen recognition of emancipatory practices. Examining the emerging logics and rhythms among a group of post-EU accession UK Polish migrants, this book focuses on the semiotic processes through which contemporary moving bodies and communities place themselves in sociolinguistic landscapes. It considers how they develop metrics to account for sociolinguistic change and authenticate their projects and practices in transnational timespace. In doing so, the book brings power differentials to the centre of language and objectivity debates and foregrounds material semiotics as an approach that enables a new collective potential and redefinition of sociolinguistic listening. By connecting research on scale in migration contexts with studies of embodied soundwork and of stance in semiotics, this book highlights how a focus on the sounded sign may bring us closer to the ways in which bodies and meanings are (re)made, and collective doing and thinking are formed in the globalised world.

Book Synopsis Dimensions of Movement by : Artemis Alexiadou
Download or read book Dimensions of Movement written by Artemis Alexiadou and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2002-08-08 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a collection of papers of recent generative research into the properties of phrasal and feature movement, which explore these key syntactic phenomena from different angles and across languages. The papers advance or build on models of movement which capitalize either on generalized feature movement or on generalized remnant movement. Both these approaches attempt to develop a restrictive theory of movement aiming at a simplification of the operations of the computational system. Despite the fact that they are so different technically, generalized feature movement and generalized remnant movement both push the theory of movement to the same direction in two important respects: (a) Elimination of head movement. (b) Elimination of covert movement. The book is of primary interest to researchers and students in theoretical linguistics and syntactic theory.
Book Synopsis Hooligans, Ultras, Activists by : Radosław Kossakowski
Download or read book Hooligans, Ultras, Activists written by Radosław Kossakowski and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-30 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first comprehensive attempt to identify the deeper causes that have shaped contemporary behaviour patterns and motivations among football fans in Poland. Fan culture in Poland has long been based on a distinctively grassroots, spontaneous movements that ruled out any cooperation with local authorities and sports organizations. The activity of supporter groups has regularly failed to meet the principles set by official bodies, intentionally breaching the moral and legal standards of the day. Based on data derived from ethnographic fieldwork, content analysis of fan journals, magazines, social media and online forums, as well as a wide range of qualitative interviews conducted over the years, the book analyses the ways in which fandom culture in Poland has evolved: from its moderate beginnings in the shadows of a communist regime in the 1970’s, through the anomic, ‘uncivilized’ and pathological decade of the 1990’s, to the peculiar culture based on strong cohesion, capabilities of social mobilization and emerging 'resistance identity' in the 21st century. It thus provides a detailed analysis of Polish fandom’s multi-dimensional structure, and will be of interest to students and academics interested in the growing field of football research, as well as those researching the transformation of Central and Eastern Europe, or more generally in European Studies.
Book Synopsis Until the Sun Breaks Down: A Künstlerroman in Three Parts by : Joseph Nicolello
Download or read book Until the Sun Breaks Down: A Künstlerroman in Three Parts written by Joseph Nicolello and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written when the author was in his early and mid-twenties, Until the Sun Breaks Down is a contemporary American Kunstlerroman modeled on Dante's Divine Comedy. In three parts and one hundred chapters that mirror Dante's classic poem, Nicolello takes the reader through present-day American towns and cities: infernal, purgatorial, and paradisal aspects with nothing left off the table. In this, the second volume, or Purgatorio, William is delivered from disquieting Jerusalem into the kaleidoscopic world of San Francisco. Here the text's cast of characters extends considerably, taking on issues of the visible and invisible, chemical indulgence in an empire in decline, the fall of irony and the limits of nihilism, and modern concepts of liberation and bondage. Here the surface of things is immeasurably more satisfying than the small town of the preceding volume--but the hollow nature of the visible in time leads the pilgrim to perpetually consider and reconsider issues raised and expand issues introduced in the first volume. At the same time, The Recluse Finds a Way is a celebration of the Bay Area, and a way of life that, for all its purgatorial excesses, leads young William closer to developing a sense of aesthetic mysticism with which to constructively reject the modern world.

Book Synopsis Contemporary Identity and Memory in the Borderlands of Poland and Germany by : Aleksandra Binicewicz
Download or read book Contemporary Identity and Memory in the Borderlands of Poland and Germany written by Aleksandra Binicewicz and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2018-09-30 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book analyses issues associated with the contemporary and memory in the Polish-German borderlands – a complex, multidimensional cultural and geographic area. The first section of the book, which focuses on contemporary issues, is divided into three parts: namely, a theoretical body, records of conversations with the inhabitants of the borderlands who are engaged in social activities, and records of workshops and conversations that brought together teenage inhabitants of the borderlands. Close cooperation with the inhabitants of two borderland towns resulted in several interesting perspectives on the borderlands, which are seen as a physical space, as well as a mental, intimate, close, and sometimes frustrating space subject to micro- and macro-scale transformations. In this book, the borderlands are viewed from these two perspectives. The micro-scale, is marked out by the individual experience of the inhabitants of the borderlands, and the macro-scale by the institutional framework established for the purpose of constructing an integrated community on the border.

Book Synopsis Online Hate Speech in the European Union by : Stavros Assimakopoulos
Download or read book Online Hate Speech in the European Union written by Stavros Assimakopoulos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license and reports on research carried out as part of the European Union co-funded C.O.N.T.A.C.T. project which targeted hate speech and hate crime across a number of EU member states. It showcases the bearing that discourse analytic research can have on our understanding of this phenomenon that is a growing global cause for concern. Although ‘hate speech’ is often incorporated in legal and policy documents, there is no universally accepted definition, which in itself warrants research into how hatred is both expressed and perceived. The research project synthesises discourse analytic and corpus linguistics techniques, and presents its key findings here. The focus is especially on online comments posted in reaction to news items that could trigger discrimination, as well as on the folk perception of online hate speech as revealed through semi-structured interviews with young individuals across the various partner countries.
