Book Synopsis Webb's Easy Bible Names Pronunciation Guide by : Steven K Webb
Download or read book Webb's Easy Bible Names Pronunciation Guide written by Steven K Webb and published by Steve Webb Productions. This book was released on 2012-06-02 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who should use this guide? Anyone who desires to pronounce the names of people and places in the Bible with confidence. Do you read passages of the Bible in public? This book is for you. In private devotions, do you gloss over the difficult names? This book is for you. This book was originally begun as a pronunciation guide for myself as I was recording the Douay-Rheims Audio Bible. When I was commissioned to do that work, I was surprised to find that there was apparently nothing currently in print specifically for the Douay-Rheims version that could help me to properly pronounce names of people and places. In order to expedite the narration, I began to compile a list of names and carefully researched pronunciations, and that list became the book that you now hold in your hands. Somewhere along the way, I decided to include the spellings and pronunciations of all the English translations I could find. As far as I know, every spelling of every name in every English translation of the Bible is included in this guide. Since the the genesis of this guide was for the Douay-Rheims Audio Bible, which is a Catholic Bible, names included in the Apocrypha appear here as well. Great effort has been made to include every English Bible translation’s names and places in this work. If the reader would be so kind as to write to me at [email protected] if the reader is aware of omissions, I will include additions in subsequent editions of this guide. It is important to note that in my research, I became aware of the fact that there are differing opinions on the correct pronunciations of many of the names contained in the Bible. Often there really is no one “correct” way to pronounce a specific name. Languages do morph over time, and pronunciations can change. This guide includes the generally accepted pronunciations in the United States in the year 2012.
Book Synopsis In the Bosom of Abraham by : George R. Eves
Download or read book In the Bosom of Abraham written by George R. Eves and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-10-07 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Read the Old Testament for the first time. Again. Experience it as an actual story for the first time. This unique book takes the reader inside the biblical narrative for a fresh encounter with God's Word. Often we read the Old Testament looking for how each event anticipates the Christ, which is a bit like reading a detective novel knowing "who done it" all along. Here, each succeeding episode is allowed to speak on its own terms only, building upon what has already happened just like any other story. Along the way it will be demonstrated how each part of the biblical narrative embodies the three covenantal promises that God made to Abraham: Land, Many Descendants, and a Blessing to All Nations. In so doing, the inherent narrative framework of the "old, old, story" is more fully exposed and the reader is rewarded with a new sense of its profound unity and divine inspiration.

Book Synopsis Gleanings from Joshua by : Arthur W. Pink
Download or read book Gleanings from Joshua written by Arthur W. Pink and published by . This book was released on 2011-09-01 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In approaching the study of one of the books of Scripture it must be of considerable help to the student if he can ascertain what is its main design and what is its outstanding topic. As pointed out in the pages in our Introduction to Exodus each book in the Bible has a prominent and dominant theme which, as such, is peculiar to itself, around which everything is made to center and of which all the details are but the amplification. What that leading subject may be, we should make it our business to prayerfully and diligently ascertain. This can best be discovered by reading and re-reading the book under review, noting carefully any particular feature or expression which occurs frequently in it-such as "under the sun" in Ecclesiastes or "the righteousness of God" in Romans. "The book of Joshua records one of the most interesting and important portions of Israel's history. It treats of the period of their estatement as a nation, of which Genesis was prophetic and the rest of the Pentateuch immediately preparatory. The books of Moses would be imperfect without this one: as it is the capstone of them, so it is the foundation of those which follow. Omit Joshua and there is a gap left in the sacred history which nothing could supply. Without it what proceeds would be incomprehensible and what follows unexplained. The sacred writer was directed to fill that gap by narrating the conquest and apportionment of the Promised Land. Thus this book may be contemplated from two distinct but closely related standpoints: first as the end of Israel's trials and wanderings in the wilderness, and second as the beginning of their new life in the land. It is that twofold viewpoint which supplies the clue to its spiritual interpretation, as it alone solves the problem which so many have found puzzling in this book." Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Christian evangelist and Biblical scholar known for his staunchly Calvinist and Puritan-like teachings. Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society (an occult gnostic group popular in England during that time), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks. His conversion came from his father's patient admonitions from Scripture. It was the verse, Proverbs 14:12, 'there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death, ' which particularly struck his heart and compelled him to renounce Theosophy and follow Jesus.
