Emily is the only child in the family, and is raised by her cantankerous grandmother and an unemotional father, who is seldom home. The times are hard due to the depression. During her childhood, Emily goes through turmoil. Because of it, she promises herself that some day she will do well in her life. Her plan is to marry rich, be successful and have children. Many of her plans are fulfilled, but as time passes, situations change. There are pitfalls along the way. Along with the joys and pitfalls are the tragedies and deaths. Throughout the story, her mothers image appears from the shadows of her mind. Its Emily's confidence and determination that plays an important role in directing her destiny and of those she loves. She finds true happiness and love with the person she least expects, the one who loved her from the moment he met her. As we live our lives we experience many trials and triumphs. This book walks the reader through various stages of life. Although JAGGED DESTINIES is a novel, Norma has depicted several occurrences from her own life throughout the book.

Book excerpt: There are over fifteen thousand homicides committed in the United States each year. Depraved madman Gerald Rucker has spent a lifetime contributing to those statistics through the murders of more than fifteen women. But the selection of his latest victim has come at a price. Her death has inspired a deep thirst for revenge in an unlikely adversary: attorney Nick Lacour. Lacour¿s newfound fury rivals the killer¿s thirst for blood¿now the hunter has become the hunted. Through a series of dramatic events, Rucker and Lacour enter a collision course that threatens to destroy everyone and everything in their path. This unavoidable conflict is enhanced by their shared interest in the beautiful and exotic Angela Graves. Lacour will do anything in his power to protect her; and Rucker will stop at nothing until she¿s dead. Linked by fate, these three completely different people meet in one final, cataclysmic confrontation that will leave you breathless and emotionally ravaged. ¿The suspense in Jagged Fate is so intense, that I jumped a foot every time I heard a noise in the house. If a man in uniform had rung the doorbell, I would have never opened the door.¿ ¿Beth Bruno, editor and author of Wild Tulips Debut novelist Santel delves deep into Gerald's psyche, rendering a vivid and disturbing psychopath. -Kirkus Discoveries
Book Synopsis The Neverending Quest for the Other Shore by : Sylvie Kandé
Download or read book The Neverending Quest for the Other Shore written by Sylvie Kandé and published by Wesleyan University Press. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sylvie Kandé's neo-epic in three cantos is a double narrative combining today's tales of African migration to Europe on the one hand, with the legend of Abubakar II on the other: Abubakar, emperor of 14th-Century Mali, sailed West toward the new world, never to return. Kandé's language deftly weaves a dialogue between these two narratives and between the epic traditions of the globe. Dazzling in its scope, the poem swings between epic stylization, griot storytelling, and colloquial banter, capturing an astonishing range of human experience. Kandé makes of the migrant a new hero, a future hero whose destiny has not yet taken shape, whose stories are still waiting to be told in their fullness and grandeur: the neverending quest has only just begun. Country folk who made themselves belated mariners their bodies cadence them to cleave with the oar's tainted tip the purple mounds of the great salt savannah which no furrow marks where no seed takes root (But to say the sea earthly words are little suited) At the point of the dream they were a myriad no less and no more to cross the coral barrier in laughter with its vermilion flowers: there remain but three barks adrift full so full to the point of capsizing

As soon as Ham hears about Zara's plight, he's on her doorstep offering her a lifeline. Now, it will take every ounce of will power she possesses to resist all that he offers. Ham was always a traveling man, never one to settle down in one town, with one woman, for more time than absolutely necessary. But Ham's faced his own demons, and he's learned a lot. About himself, and about the life he knows he's meant to live. So when he hears that Zara's having a rough time, he wants to be the one to help. In fact, he wants to do more than that for Zara. A lot more. But first, he must prove to Zara that he's a changed man.
