Book Synopsis Chemistry and Biological Activities of Ivermectin by : Rashid Ali
Download or read book Chemistry and Biological Activities of Ivermectin written by Rashid Ali and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-09-13 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF IVERMECTIN The book focuses on the biological activities of ivermectin as well as the significant global utility of IVM since it was first used about 35 years ago. Ivermectin (IVM) is a “wonder drug” containing a 16-membered macrocyclic lactone ring system in its structure and derived from the family of avermectins. It was isolated by the fermentation of the soil microorganism Streptomyces avermitilis by Satoshi Omura in 1960 and studied by William C. Campbell in 1981, which allowed for its treatment of onchocerciasis (River Blindness) in Africa. Both scientists subsequently received the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. It was approved by the FDA in 1997 for the treatment of Strongyloidiasis and crusted scabies in AIDS patients. After that, IVM has attracted the tremendous attention of the scientific community and has been used for diverse purposes, including as an inhibitor of the causative virus (SARS-CoV-2). The chief purpose of this volume is to focus on the chemistry and biological activities of ivermectin. The chapters have been arranged in a systematic manner, starting from the historical background and synthesis of IVM to the pharmacological and environmental aspects, followed by diverse applications. Although the usage of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19 remains under investigation and controversial, one of the chapters is dedicated to its use. The anti-parasitic, anti-malarial, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory activities of IVM are discussed in detail. The anthelminthic and insecticidal roles of IVM are briefly described and there are several cases of IVM in dermatology. Audience Researchers, scientists, and postgraduate students working in the fields of organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, medical science, pharmacy, biotechnology and biomedical sciences.
Book Synopsis Interrogative Strategies by : Tianhua Luo
Download or read book Interrogative Strategies written by Tianhua Luo and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2016-09-15 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with how to ask questions in the languages of China. The syntactic, morphological, and lexical forms for distinguishing interrogatives take centre stage; intonation is also dealt with, but more peripherally than question particles, disjunctive and negative constructions, and word order. 140 languages spoken in China are covered coming from four major families: Sino-Tibetan, Altaic, Austronesian and Austro-Asiatic, accompanied by a few mixed languages. The approach is areal-typological, i.e. these focal languages are compared to the languages of the world as represented in typological samples, and within China areal patterns of the structural variables are examined. The book will be an indispensable reference for future work on interrogatives in a typological context and for areal studies of the language situation in China and more generally East Asia.

Download or read book Long Term Safety of Assisted Reproduction written by Arianna D'Angelo and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-03-28 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A much-needed overview of the available information now accumulating to indicate that assisted reproductive technologies are generally safe for both babies and mothers. However, the literature abounds with reports of a higher risk of obstetric and perinatal complications; regarding the long term outcomes for both women and children, the data are still scarce. The chapters summarized in this book review the current knowledge on long term safety of assisted reproduction and indicate the need for continued research to cover the lack of data in some specific patient groups and for recently developed treatments that only have a short period of follow-up.
