Book Synopsis It’s Ok, I’m All Right by : Jean Brown
Download or read book It’s Ok, I’m All Right written by Jean Brown and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2020-03-03 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can anyone who woke from an open heart procedure revealing a malignant tumor instead of a benign tumor pen these words, “It’s ok, I’m all right?” At age fifty-four I could confidently pen those words. My faith had already been through multiple challenges. Going through chemotherapy was not going to be easy. But, some of the other challenges I had faced earlier in my life weren’t easy either. Was I disappointed? Greatly! No one looks forward to chemotherapy. The tumor had grown eight times its size. It had eaten into my heart, my vocal chord nerves and the nerves for my shoulder. Some said, we just knew you would be healed. You were anointed at church. Had God let me down? No. My family and I could have gotten worse news. My faith still held. Eight years later I faced an even greater battle. This is my story.
Book Synopsis The Doctor's Stories by : Charles T. Chase, MD
Download or read book The Doctor's Stories written by Charles T. Chase, MD and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-12-19 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After reading William Carlos Williams’ The Doctor Stories the patients of my own past began to haunt me. Driving in my car, musing in elevators, winding down at my desk at the end of the work day; the patients in my own past just crowded out all thoughts in my mind. Their compelling stories nearly became an obsession. I began to keep a journal. In it, I kept track of who was haunting me and as much of their story as I could remember. As their numbers grew and I had more details clear in my mind, their stories took form and shape. I have always been one that remembers people by their face more than their name and the faces would appear and their stories would come back to me as though it was yesterday. Some of these patients had not been remembered for over thirty years going back to my time as a student and intern. And yet when I started to compose at my computer, the words just flowed. The stories wrote themselves. The emotions attached to the patients had not dimmed and propelled me forward in the effort to put their stories down in narrative form. There are scores of patients whose stories came back to me that I have organized into approximately 30 different chapters. Each story stands alone but all have the common themes of pathos, compassion, trial and triumph of the human spirit. The theme of the triumph of the human spirit suffuses the entire book. I am continually amazed at how humans can handle what life throws at them. We never know how much we can handle until we are asked to rise above extraordinary circumstances. At the same time there are the oddly amusing stories. Sometimes it is enough just to put a smile on one’s face. There are stories like that too. The patients in my book all have had to deal with the extraordinary. Everyone is vulnerable to illness and death. The patients described in the pages of my book stand out in some way as remarkable. The book is a memoir, but it is not about me. The book is about the patients and their struggles.

Her response was, Bring it on! She wanted to see what God would do to help her through this. Its Okay to Be Me: A Journey to Gods Heart by Way of Cancer presents the very personal account of Veronicas early years and the factors that contributed to her feelings of rejection. But God was at work in her life, calling out to her and holding her close even at her most rebellious times. It was when she was at her most vulnerable point, fearing a possible death sentence from cancer, that she finally got the message that she was infinitely valuable and eternally and unconditionally loved by the very Creator of the universe. Walk with her through the revelational process of finding her true worth. Discover the ways God prepared her for her most difficult journey and continually supported her through the stress of the challenging decisions, surgery, and recovery. Its Okay to Be Me chronicles how she discovered, for the first time in sixty-five years, why it really was okay to be herself. An amazing and inspirational life-changing account of a personal journey! Veronica has given a gift to others by sharing her story. - Ashley Hood, medical/oncology social worker

Book excerpt: 'Very funny and frank' Independent 'Reads like Scrubs: The Blog ... funny and awful in equal measure' Observer * * * * * * * The bestselling real life story of a hapless junior doctor, based on his columns written anonymously for the Telegraph. IF YOU'RE GOING to be ill, it's best to avoid the first Wednesday in August. This is the day when junior doctors graduate to their first placements and begin to face having to put into practice what they have spent the last six years learning. Starting on the evening before he begins work as a doctor, this book charts Max Pemberton's touching and funny journey through his first year in the NHS. Progressing from youthful idealism to frank bewilderment, Max realises how little his job is about 'saving people' and how much of his time is taken up by signing forms and trying to figure out all the important things no one has explained yet -- for example, the crucial question of how to tell whether someone is dead or not. Along the way, Max and his fellow fledgling doctors grapple with the complicated questions of life, love, mental health and how on earth to make time to do your laundry. All Creatures Great and Small meets Bridget Jones's Diary, this is a humorous and accessible peek into a world which you'd normally need a medical degree to witness. If you enjoy Trust Me, I'm a (Junior) Doctor, don't miss the follow-up titles Where Does It Hurt? and The Doctor Will See You Now.

Download or read book A Spot of Bother written by Mark Haddon and published by Anchor Canada. This book was released on 2009-09-17 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: George Hall is an unobtrusive man. A little distant, perhaps, a little cautious, not quite at ease with the emotional demands of fatherhood or of manly bonhomie. “The secret of contentment, George felt, lay in ignoring many things completely.” Some things in life can’t be ignored, however: his tempestuous daughter Katie’s deeply inappropriate boyfriend Ray, for instance, or the sudden appearance of a red circular rash on his hip. At 57, George is settling down to a comfortable retirement, building a shed in his garden and enjoying the freedom to be alone when he wants. But then he runs into a spot of bother. That red circular rash on his hip: George convinces himself it’s skin cancer. And the deeply inappropriate Ray? Katie announces he will become her second husband. The planning for these frowned-upon nuptials proves a great inconvenience to George’s wife, Jean, who is carrying on a late-life affair with her husband’s ex-colleague. The Halls do not approve of Ray, for vague reasons summed up by their son Jamie’s observation that Ray has “strangler’s hands.” Jamie himself has his own problems — his tidy and pleasant life comes apart when he fails to invite his lover, Tony, to Katie’s wedding. And Katie, a woman whose ferocious temper once led to the maiming of a carjacker, can’t decide if she loves Ray, or loves the wonderful way he has with her son Jacob. Unnoticed in the uproar, George quietly begins to go mad. The way these damaged people fall apart — and come together — as a family is the true subject of Haddon’s hilarious and disturbing portrait of a dignified man trying to go insane politely. A Spot of Bother is Mark Haddon’s unforgettable follow-up to the internationally beloved bestseller The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. Once again, Haddon proves a master of a story at once hilarious, poignant, dark, and profoundly human. Here the madness — literally — of family life proves rich comic fodder for Haddon’s crackling prose and bittersweet insights into misdirected love.
