Book Synopsis Static Compensators (STATCOMs) in Power Systems by : Farhad Shahnia
Download or read book Static Compensators (STATCOMs) in Power Systems written by Farhad Shahnia and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-01 with total page 741 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A static compensator (STATCOM), also known as static synchronous compensator, is a member of the flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices. It is a power-electronics based regulating device which is composed of a voltage source converter (VSC) and is shunt-connected to alternating current electricity transmission and distribution networks. The voltage source is created from a DC capacitor and the STATCOM can exchange reactive power with the network. It can also supply some active power to the network, if a DC source of power is connected across the capacitor. A STATCOM is usually installed in the electric networks with poor power factor or poor voltage regulation to improve these problems. In addition, it is used to improve the voltage stability of a network. This book covers STATCOMs from different aspects. Different converter topologies, output filters and modulation techniques utilized within STATCOMs are reviewed. Mathematical modeling of STATCOM is presented in detail and different STATCOM control strategies and algorithms are discussed. Modified load flow calculations for a power system in the presence of STATCOMs are presented. Several applications of STATCOMs in transmission and distribution networks are discussed in different examples and optimization techniques for defining the optimal location and ratings of the STATCOMs in power systems are reviewed. Finally, the performance of the network protection scheme in the presence of STATCOMs is described. This book will be an excellent resource for postgraduate students and researchers interested in grasping the knowledge on STATCOMs.
Book Synopsis A Philosophy of Management Accounting by : Hanne Nørreklit
Download or read book A Philosophy of Management Accounting written by Hanne Nørreklit and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-03-27 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book introduces pragmatic constructivism as a paradigm for understanding actors’ construction of functioning practice and for developing methods and concepts for managing and observing that practice. The book explores, understands and theorises organisational practices as constructed through the activities of all organisational actors. Actors always act under presumptions of a specific actor-world-relation which they continuously construct, adjust and reconstruct in light of new experiences, contexts and communication. The outcome of the actor-world-relation is a reality construction. The reality construction may function successfully or it may be hampered by fictitious and illusionary elements, due to missing or faulty actor-world relations. The thesis is that four dimensions of reality – facts, possibilities, values and communication – must be integrated in the actor-world-relation if the construct is to form a successful basis for effective, functioning actions. Drawing on pragmatic constructivism, the book provides concepts and ideas for studies regarding actors and their use of management accounting models in their construction of organized reality. It concentrates on researching and conceptualizing what creates functioning reality construction. It develops concept and methods for understanding, analysing and managing the actors’ reality constructions. It is intended for people who do research on or work actively with developing management accounting.
Book Synopsis National Judges and the Case Law of the Court of Justice of the European Union by : Anna Maria Mancaleoni
Download or read book National Judges and the Case Law of the Court of Justice of the European Union written by Anna Maria Mancaleoni and published by Roma TrE-Press. This book was released on 2021-01-14 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Carving Status at Kŭmgangsan by : Maya K. H. Stiller
Download or read book Carving Status at Kŭmgangsan written by Maya K. H. Stiller and published by Korean Studies of the Henry M.. This book was released on 2021 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "North Korea's Kŭmgangsan is one of Asia's most celebrated sacred mountains, comparable in fame to Mount Tai in China and Mount Fuji in Japan. The late Chosŏn (1650-1900) Korean elite went to Kŭmgangsan on pilgrimages to demonstrate and defend their high social status. Travelers used the mountain to cultivate practices such as naming sites, carving rock inscriptions, and joining a literary lineage. In pilgrimage, they sought an extraordinary experience that could be made only at a particular, nonsubstitutable site; they went on a journey of more than two weeks, following a prescribed route; and they journeyed to a locale that held significance for their religious, political, social, or cultural identity. Some Kŭmgangsan travelers expanded on the prescribed circular route to further demonstrate their social status, engaging with locales by leaving documentation of their visit. Based on multidisciplinary research drawing on literary writings, court records, gazetteers, maps, songs, and paintings, Carving Status at Kŭmgangsan transcends the traditional dichotomies between pilgrim and tourist by reconceptualizing pilgrimage in the premodern Korean context. The book will appeal to scholars in fields ranging from East Asian history, literature, and geography, to pilgrimage studies and art history"--
Book Synopsis Human Resource Management in the Project-Oriented Organization by : Martina Huemann
Download or read book Human Resource Management in the Project-Oriented Organization written by Martina Huemann and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organizations regularly assume that the culture, values, dynamic and organization of their temporary project organizations are merely a smaller version of the original parent. Given that project organizations are made up of people and teams drawn, in most cases, from outside and inside the parent, these assumptions are nonsensical. But they do explain why the HR function finds it difficult to adapt to the project environment. Martina Huemann's research in Human Resource Management in the Project-Oriented Organization, offers insight into an approach that is designed to align HR to the needs of the project organization, in terms of management structure, reward, recruitment and performance systems. The text analyses how the modern HR organization stacks up alongside the temporary organization that is the project, to identify the HR constraints and needs of the project organisation and offer a model of project-oriented HRM. Professor Huemann had a deep interest in how and why change processes come into existence and how to design and enable them. In her book she endeavors to bridge theory and practice, strategy and operations.
Book Synopsis Paradigms in Theory Construction by : Luciano L'Abate
Download or read book Paradigms in Theory Construction written by Luciano L'Abate and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-12-01 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the field of psychology there is a proliferation of paradigms, theories, models, and dimensions without an underlying conceptual framework or theory. This conclusion has been reached by representatives of many different psychological specialties. In response to this inconsistency this book presents a hierarchical framework about important theoretical issues that are present in psychological thinking. These issues concern definitions of three major theoretical concepts in theory and practice: (a) paradigms, (b) theories, and (c) models. It focuses on defining, comparing, and contrasting these three conceptual terms. This framework clarifies differences among paradigms, theories, and models, terms which have become increasingly confused in the psychological literature. Paradigms are usually confused with theories or with models while theories are confused with models. Examples of misuses of these terms suggest the need for a hierarchical structure that views paradigms as conceptual constructions overseeing a variety of psychological theories and verifiable models.

Book Synopsis Idols of the People by : Peter Roger Stuart Moorey
Download or read book Idols of the People written by Peter Roger Stuart Moorey and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lectures investigate the numerous miniature baked clay images from Canaan, Israel and Judah (c. 1600-600 BC). They constitute vital evidence for the imagery and domestic rituals of ordinary people, but significantly are not explicitly mentioned in the Old Testament. These terracottas are treated as a distinctive phenomenon with roots deep in prehistory and recurrent characteristics across millennia. Attention is focused on whether or not the female representations are worshippers of unknown deities or images of known goddesses, particularly in Early Israelite religion.
Book Synopsis Recent Archaeological Discoveries and Biblical Research by : William G. Dever
Download or read book Recent Archaeological Discoveries and Biblical Research written by William G. Dever and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 2011-10-01 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Archaeology and Bible--two simple terms, often used together, understood by everybody. But are they understood properly? If so, why are both subject to such controversy? And what can archaeology contribute to our understanding of the Bible? These are the problems addressed by Professor Dever in this book. Dever first looks at the nature and recent development of both archaeology and Biblical studies, and then lays the groundwork for a new a productive relationship between these two disciplines. His “case studies” are three eras in Israelite history: the period of settlement in Canaan, the period of the United Monarchy, and the period of religious development, chiefly during the Divided Monarchy. In each case Dever explores by means of recent discoveries what archaeology, couples with textual study, can contribute to the illumination of the life and times of ancient Israel. Given the flood of new information that has come from recent archaeological discoveries, Dever has chosen to draw evidence largely from excavations and surveys done in Israel in the last ten years--many still unpublished--concerning archaeology and the Old Testament. Dever’s work not only brings the reader up to date on recent archaeological discoveries as they pertain to the Hebrew Bible, but indeed goes further in offering an original interpretation of the relationship between the study of the Bible and the uncovering of the material culture of the ancient Near East. Extensive notes, plus the use of much new and/or unpublished data, will make the volume useful to graduate students and professors in the fields of Biblical studies and Syro-Palestinian archaeology, and the seminarians, pastors, rabbis, and others. This book provides stimulating, provocative, and often controversial reading as well as a compendium of valuable insights and marginalia that symbolizes the state of the art of Biblical archaeology today.
Book Synopsis The Religions of Ancient Israel by : Ziony Zevit
Download or read book The Religions of Ancient Israel written by Ziony Zevit and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2003-06-01 with total page 852 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the most far-reaching interdisciplinary investigation into the religion of ancient Israel ever attempted. The author draws on textual readings, archaeological and historical data and epigraphy to determine what is known about the Israelite religions during the Iron Age (1200-586 BCE). The evidence is synthesized within the structure of an Israelite worldview and ethos involving kin, tribes, land, traditional ways and places of worship, and a national deity. Professor Zevit has originated this interpretive matrix through insights, ideas, and models developed in the academic study of religion and history within the context of the humanities. He is strikingly original, for instance, in his contention that much of the Psalter was composed in praise of deities other than Yahweh. Through his book, the author has set a precedent which should encourage dialogue and cooperative study between all ancient historians and archaeologists, but particularly between Iron Age archaeologists and biblical scholars. The work challenges many conclusions of previous scholarship about the nature of the Israelites' religion.
