Now the target is France, but French Jews, though massively Zionist, are reluctant to emigrate. Israel, it seems, cannot thrive and prosper without draining the Diaspora of its finances, its youth – indeed its very identity.Israeli control of Jerusalem has not brought the Messianic age any closer. Rabbis used to worry that the Holocaust could mean that God abrogated His covenant with the Jews. Israel’s victory in 1967 convinced them that the covenant still holds. The Holocaust has, however, encouraged Jewish paganism, as Jews adulate power and define themselves purely as an ethnic group: Hitlerjuden. The State of Israel claims to be the culmination of Jewish history, but its leaders insist that we are still in the rut of 1938.The State of Israel is perfectly capable of defending itself and has no need of solidarity rallies in the Diaspora. Zionism allows the Jewish establishment to retain power, but reduces the Diaspora to a subordinate role. Yet Judaism was born and developed in exile. If Jews divest themselves of their siege mentality, Judaism can become a university for adults, without examinations or tuition fees, open to all.

In addition, building non-proliferation regime was not always its top foreign policy priority. Israel is the only nuclear-armed state that does not acknowledge its possession of the bomb, even though its existence is a common knowledge throughout the world. It only says that it will not be the first to introduce nuclear weapons to the Middle East. The bomb is Israel's collective ineffable the nation's last great taboo. This bargain has a name: in Hebrew, it is called amimut, or opacity. By adhering to the bargain, which was born in a secret deal between Richard Nixon and Golda Meir, Israel has created a code of nuclear conduct that encompasses both governmental policy and societal behavior. The bargain has deemphasized the salience of nuclear weapons, yet it is incompatible with the norms and values of a liberal democracy. It relies on secrecy, violates the public right to know, and undermines the norm of public accountability and oversight, among other offenses. It is also incompatible with emerging international nuclear norms. Author of the critically acclaimed Israel and the Bomb, Avner Cohen offers a bold and original study of this politically explosive subject. Along with a fair appraisal of the bargain's strategic merits, Cohen critiques its undemocratic flaws. Arguing that the bargain has become increasingly anachronistic, he calls for a reform in line with domestic democratic values as well as current international nuclear norms. Most ironic, he believes Iran is imitating Israeli amimut. Cohen concludes with fresh perspectives on Iran, Israel, and the effort toward global disarmament.

There are no labels for tables, chairs or airplanes, and indeed there are no colors, sounds or smells, only photons, air waves, odorant molecules etc., which are unlabeled and impossible to "know". To make sense of this chaos so that we may survive, the brain must simplify our sensory inputs by creating, or inventing, the colors, the sounds and smells and forms and faces that we perceive in consciousness, which are, in effect a proxy for the chaotic world in which we live. Our ability to generalize and categorize these invented perceptions, and to relate them to one another, enables us to form memories, which are not fixed representations of things past, but a dynamic and malleable function of the brain that is relational. When formation of these worlds breaks down, neurological differences arise. The world retains its inherent complexity and we are unable to recognize faces of family members or written words or numbers, or we experience more complex disorders, including multiple personality disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and the perception of phantom body parts, such as a phantom limb, a misperception that represents a breakdown of the body image. Although the mechanisms that transform sensory chaos into the simplified perceptions experienced in consciousness remain elusive, we relate what we have learned by means of imaging brain activity and by mapping the neural circuits that comprise our memory traces, and we discuss the perspectives for future studies of consciousness"--
