Book Synopsis Islam's Reformation of Christianity by : Zulfiqar Ali Shah

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus was a product of Semitic monotheism, moral law, piety and humility. His kingdom was the other worldly. His ethical monotheism was transformed by the Roman Empire and mythology. The supernatural, Trinitarian and miraculous Roman Christianity transitioned into unintelligible dogmas, the abolition of law, moral laxity, this worldly kingdom and divine right absolutism. Natural theology, law, cosmology and politics were all compromised. Religious freedom was barred, and persecutions were normalised. Latin Christendom was a persecutory society. Islam was an intellectual cure to Christian paradoxes and an egalitarian pluralistic alternate to Christian inquisitions and religiopolitical absolutism. It spread in the Eastern Christian territories like a bush fire. This reformation of Christian excesses in religiopolitical theology reformed its paradoxical incarnational theology, antinomianism, grace-based salvation scheme, divine right Church and monarchy, interventionist cosmology and religious persecutions. This insightful and groundbreaking new book provides an in-depth study of the Is- lamic, Southern Reformation of Christianity; a reformation seldom acknowledged or studied by the historians. It explores how the Islamic reformative scheme emphasised ethical, transcendental monotheism, natural theology and rational discourse. It limited monarchy and placed significance on an inclusive, pluralistic and free society. The Seventh Century Islamic natural, rational, moral, republican and egalitarian reformation was the Southern Reformation of Christianity, long before the partial Northern Reformation of Luther and Calvin.

Book excerpt: The “industry” of manufacturing the “word of God” was in vogue in ancient times when religion was the most powerful institution in society. The elite, whenever they wanted to convince people of something to further their economic gain, used religion. This not only distorted and ruined the genuine “words of God,” it created mischief and corruption in society, which ultimately got blamed on religion. It was not religion but pseudo-religion and constructed books, like books in the Bible, which got institutionalized and caused great harm and injustice to humanity. The Koran, coming to reform such a world, presented itself as a criterion to distinguish true from false (Koran 2:185), based on the principles of science and rationality. It termed nature as being the reflection of God’s will (Sunna in Arabic), and made the careful analysis of nature and contemplation based on it, a duty incumbent upon every believer (Koran 3:190-195). The history of modern science began with the Koran. Muslims, inspired by the Koran, did pioneering, foundation building work in all fields of modern science, thus sparking the European Renaissance.

Book excerpt: Originally published in 1953, Bridge to Islam is a detailed study of the beliefs of Muhammad and his followers, exploring the relationship between the world of Islam and that of Christianity. Drawing attention to the common beliefs between Islam and Christianity, the book examines the relationship between these two prominent religions and poses the argument that it is only through a proper appreciation of the differences in spiritual attitudes that a bridge of understanding and knowledge can be built between them. It traces the religious histories of different countries in the Middle East and assesses the position of Islam and Christianity in each one. Bridge to Islam will appeal to those with an interest in the history of Christianity, the history of Islam, religious studies, and the Middle East.

Book excerpt: No previous full-scale study has been undertaken so far to study the polemical writings of the Muslim reformist Muḥammad Rashīd Riḍā (1865-1935) and his associates in his well-known journal al-Manār (The Lighthouse). The book focuses on the dynamics of Muslim understanding of Christianity during the late 19th and the early 20th century in the light of al-Manār’s sources of knowledge, and its answers to the social, political and theological aspects of missionary movements in the Muslim World of Riḍā’s age. The basis of the analysis encompasses the voluminous publications by Riḍā and other Manārists in his journal. Besides, it makes use of newly-discovered materials, including Riḍā’s private papers, and some other remaining personal archives of some of his associates.

Book Synopsis Islam in Relation to the Christ Impulse by : Andrei Younis
Download or read book Islam in Relation to the Christ Impulse written by Andrei Younis and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2015-06-01 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Islam came into being around AD 600 as a monotheistic, Abrahamic religion revealed through the Prophet Muhammad. Awareness of Islam in the West has grown dramatically in the twenty-first century, but there remains much misunderstanding of the interrelationship between Islam and Christianity, both their commonalities and differences. Andrei Younis elucidates esoteric reasons behind the emergence of Islam from the perspective of Steiner’s Spiritual Science. He draws on more than thirty years of studying Steiner’s works, as well as on first-hand knowledge gained from living in various Islamic countries and cultures. His purpose is to reconcile the origins, beliefs, and meanings of Islam and Christianity. Looking closely at the history and various manifestations of Islam, Younis discusses the spiritual impulses behind Islamic beliefs and practices, grounding his commentary in both the Koran and the Bible. Comprehending this anthroposophic perspective on the emergence of Islam is key to understanding why Islam manifests as it does today. Whereas this book will be enlightening and even surprising to most open-minded Western readers, it is not meant to be a foundation for beliefs (or non-belief), but as a springboard for thought and new avenues of understanding and compassion in a dangerous time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis The Christian Approach to Islam by : James L. Barton
Download or read book The Christian Approach to Islam written by James L. Barton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Christian Approach to Islam The substance of this book was delivered in a course of lectures at the College of Missions in Indianapolis, Indiana. The original lectures have been thoroughly revised and rewritten. The extended discussion in the daily press and the many articles appearing in various magazines and reviews reveal the interest the public is taking at this time in the Mohammedan question. There is a real revival in the study of Islam on the part of the general public, and a new inquiry within the Church as to the Church's relations and obligation to Mohammedanism in the face of the revolutionary events that have taken place in the Mohammedan world during the last four years. The world war is having a more startling effect upon Mohammedanism than upon any other of the great religions. The three outstanding Moslem centers, Cairo, Mecca and Constantinople, have been in the heart of the conflict. The Caliphate has been overthrown and the call for a holy war rejected, while Moslems have been actively engaged on both sides of the great conflict. The old Mohammedan world with its boasted solidarity is no more. No longer do the nations of the earth, as for twelve centuries, stand in terror before the united forces of Islam. While Islam is still a mighty religion, it no longer is an international menace. Millions of Mohammedans will continue to believe in their religion and worship Allah, but few will persist in their dream of Moslem world domination. Through the only call ever issued for a universal holy war Mohammedanism made its supreme and final effort for national supremacy and failed.
