Book excerpt: This unique manuscript surveys the regime's missile capabilities, including the underlying organization, structure, production and development infrastructure, launch facilities and the command centers operating inside Iran. This report has been complied on the basis of intelligence and information obtained by the main organized opposition, Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK), from inside the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other regime military institutions leading the charge on missile development. The book exposes the association and connections between the regime's missile activities on the one hand and its nuclear program on the other, including in particular, relations with North Korea. After the July 2015 nuclear deal, in contradiction to the spirit of the agreement, the clerical regime increased the number of ballistic missile tests capable of carrying a nuclear load. Along with illicit exports to other players in the Middle East, which undermines regional security and stability, the regime seeks to compensate for its weakness as well as domestic vulnerabilities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2231, approving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, JCPOA, and the lifting sanctions on Iran, one thing has been abundantly clear: The notion that Iran would now modify its behavior and become a responsible member of the international community has proven to be false. Since the JCPOA was signed, Iran has taken U.S. citizens hostages and demanded, and received ransom for their return. As a result, Iran has since held additional U.S. citizens and permanent U.S. residents with the expectation of receiving more ransom payments. The regime continues to support the Assad regime with money, supplies, weapons, fighters, and is doing the same in Yemen with the Houthis. Iran's ships have made dozens of provocative actions toward U.S. ships in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf. Iran continues to support terror around the world, most notably through its support of the terror group Hezbollah. This has allowed Hezbollah to increase its stockpiled rockets and missiles. Iran also continues to conduct ballistic missile tests for the purprose of developing a viable ballistic missile program; the regime wants to be ready to be able to deliver a nuclear payload when the terms of the JCPOA expire. Over time, the correlation between a country's nuclear program and a corresponding ballistic missile program has proved to be absolute. Countries that sustain indigenous medium and longrange ballistic missiles always aspire to possess nuclear weapons.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why does Iranian acquisition of ballistic missiles or Iran's pursuit of a space launch capability matter, especially to the Congress? For decades, most in Congress have viewed Iran with concern because of its nuclear program and its support of anti-U.S. and anti-Israel militant movements in the region. Although it is not certain that Iran has made the decision to develop a nuclear weapon, it is taking steps to drastically reduce the time needed to obtain nuclear weapons should a decision be made to do so. It is the prospect of an Iranian nuclear weapon mated to an effective missile delivery capability that is especially worrisome to most. This book examines the current and prospective Iranian capabilities that challenge U.S. national security interests, with a focus on its ballistic missile and space launch programs.

Book excerpt: Iran has an active interest in developing, acquiring, and deploying a broad range of ballistic missiles. This was spotlighted in mid-July 2008 when Iran launched a number of ballistic missiles during military exercises, reportedly including the medium-range Shahab-3. On July 18, 2008, a Pentagon spokesman said Iran was "not testing new technologies or capabilities, but rather firing off old equipment in an attempt to intimidate their neighbors and escalate tension in the region." Subsequent analysis of the July 2008 missile launches also shows Iran apparently digitally altered images of those launches. This short report seeks to provide an overview of the reported or suspected variety of Iranian ballistic missile programs. Because there remains widespread public divergence over particulars, however, this report does not provide specificity to what Iran may or may not have, or is in the process of developing. This report may be updated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an exploration of ballistic missile proliferation in the Middle East and also delves into the geopolitical landscape to unveil a narrative of contemporary Middle Eastern history. The central focus of this book is to decipher the pivotal moments when three regional powers of the Middle East - Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Iran - embraced ballistic capabilities as a strategic response to military vulnerabilities. The authors contend that the very essence of ballistic proliferation incorporates a tactical rationale provided by military needs that varies from one state to another, and it is upon the assessment of these military needs that the decision to procure ballistic missiles is made. Offering a blend of theoretical insights and primary sources-based case studies, this book dissects the decision-making processes that spurred these states to choose ballistic missiles, despite their inefficiencies in delivering conventional payloads. The absence of an effective air force emerges as a catalyst, triggering what the authors term a ‘moment of ballistic consciousness.' Spanning three diverse regimes, the work provides a rich historical tapestry and untangles the complexities of political decisions with military implications, providing a fresh perspective on global power dynamics. This narrative sheds light on the intersection of military strategy, geopolitical realities, and the pursuit of ballistic capabilities that shapes the world's security landscape. This book will be of much interest to students of arms control, nuclear proliferation, Middle Eastern politics, and International Relations.
