Book Synopsis IP and Other Things by : Robin Jacob
Download or read book IP and Other Things written by Robin Jacob and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-10-29 with total page 709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Rt Hon Professor Sir Robin Jacob has been variously a leading member of the Intellectual Property Bar, a High Court judge and, as Lord Justice Jacob, a judge in the Court of Appeal of England and Wales. His primary area of expertise is intellectual property (IP) rights. He chose to leave the Court of Appeal in March 2011 to take up his current position as the Sir Hugh Laddie Chair in intellectual property at University College London. Besides teaching and writing he still sits occasionally in the Court of Appeal, sits as an arbitrator, provides expert evidence, chairs the Advisory Committee on the Appointment and Training of the Judges of the Unified Patent Court and often advises the UK Government and EU Commission on IP matters. These essays and speeches, selected from his published and unpublished writings and lectures, illustrate the breadth of his learning in IP and other matters. They are written in typically straightforward and entertaining style and, in the case of the older essays, include a commentary of what has happened since they were first published. They will be of interest to any lawyer, law student or scholar interested in the development of IP law in the past quarter century or so.
Book Synopsis A History of Intellectual Property in 50 Objects by : Claudy Op den Kamp
Download or read book A History of Intellectual Property in 50 Objects written by Claudy Op den Kamp and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-06-20 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do the Mona Lisa, the light bulb, and a Lego brick have in common? The answer - intellectual property (IP) - may be surprising, because IP laws are all about us, but go mostly unrecognized. They are complicated and arcane, and few people understand why they should care about copyright, patents, and trademarks. In this lustrous collection, Claudy Op den Kamp and Dan Hunter have brought together a group of contributors - drawn from around the globe in fields including law, history, sociology, science and technology, media, and even horticulture - to tell a history of IP in 50 objects. These objects not only demonstrate the significance of the IP system, but also show how IP has developed and how it has influenced history. Each object is at the core of a story that will be appreciated by anyone interested in how great innovations offer a unique window into our past, present, and future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to provide an introduction to an area of the law which even now remains a closed book to the majority of practicing lawyers. Bankers are not expected to have an intimate knowledge of the law relating to intellectual property, but they should have, because customers are likely to own intellectual property rights which offer a valuable source of security for lending transactions. The banker dealing with clients who own intellectual property should be able to distinguish patents and trademarks, and appreciate what copyright may protect. This book is a valuable tool in this process. Finally, the impact of the European Union, which will radically reshape intellectual property laws in the UK in the next few years is considered.

This book was released on 2011-02-07 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This is a golden age of opportunity the Committee says for the industry and proper support for small companies accessing global audiences is vital, it is potentially a world leader for the UK. It warns that overseas government subsidies, cheaper labour markets and skills shortages have created an uneven international playing field and more encouragement for development and growth is needed. The possibility of a games industry tax relief should be kept under review and a comprehensive assessment of the benefits of a games tax relief should be carried out, along with an examination of countries whose industries flourish without such support. A shortage of adequately qualified graduates to sustain the industry is also a real concern, skills like maths and computer science being needed and the brain drain of graduates to countries offering better incentives. The creation and retention of intellectual property is seen as a priority issue for the UK video games industry and the Government's review of intellectual property taxation will be monitored. The failure of the creative industries Minister to lobby the Treasury directly on games tax relief is both surprising and disappointing and the Committee asks the Government to explain how the industry's voice will be heard properly in future.

Book Synopsis Guidebook to Intellectual Property by : Robin Jacob
Download or read book Guidebook to Intellectual Property written by Robin Jacob and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-07-14 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This book is a classic... its style and content remain invaluable.” Entertainment Law Review This is the new edition of a unique book about intellectual property. It is for those new to the subject, both law students and others such as business people needing some idea of the subject. It provides an outline of the basic legal principles, educating the reader as to the shape of the law. Critically, it also gives an insight into how the system actually works. You cannot understand chess by merely learning the rules – you also have to know how the game is played: so too with intellectual property. The authors deliberately avoid technicalities: keeping things simple, yet direct. There are no footnotes to distract. Although cases are, inevitably, referred to, they are explained in a pithy, accessible manner. All major areas of IP – patents, trade marks, copyright and designs – are covered, along with briefer treatment of other rights and subjects such as breach of confidence, plant varieties and databases. A novice reader should come away both with a clear outline of IP law and a feeling for how it works. Students will be able to put their more detailed study into perspective. Users will be able to understand better how IP affects them and their businesses.

This book was released on 2018-04-12 with total page 1145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in an age in which expressive, informational, and technological subject matter are becoming increasingly important. Intellectual property is the primary means by which the law seeks to regulate such subject matter. It aims to promote innovation and creativity, and in doing so to support solutions to global environmental and health problems, as well as freedom of expression and democracy. It also seeks to stimulate economic growth and competition, accounting for its centrality to EU Internal Market and international trade and development policies. Additionally, it is of enormous and increasing importance to business. As a result there is a substantial and ever-growing interest in intellectual property law across all spheres of industry and social policy, including an interest in its legal principles, its social and normative foundations, and its place and operation in the political economy. This handbook written by leading academics and practitioners from the field of intellectual property law, and suitable for both a specialist legal readership and an intelligent but non-specialist legal and non-legal readership, provides a comprehensive account of the following areas: - The foundations of IP law, including its emergence and development in different jurisdictions and regions; - The substantive rules and principles of IP; and - Important issues arising from the existence and operation of IP in the political economy.
