Hierbei sollen besonders die Voraussetzungen und Lebensverhältnisse der Kinder betrachtet werden, die sich aufgrund ihrer türkischen Herkunft, von denen deutscher Kinder unterscheiden. Die Arbeit gliedert sich in einen theoretischen und analytischen Teil. Im Theoretischen Hintergrund wird zunächst auf die Migrationsgeschichte eingegangen, grundlegende Begriffe zur Migration werden definiert und der bildungssoziologische Ansatz von Pierre Bourdieu wird kurz erläutert. Ausgehend davon findet eine Analyse statt, in der der Ansatz Bourdieus auf die Situation türkischer Migrantenkinder angewandt wird, um die Eingangs gestellte Hypothese zu belegen. Immer wieder wird das deutsche Bildungssystem dahingehend kritisiert, dass Kinder mit Migrationshintergrund signifikant weniger Bildungserfolg, als ihre autochthonen MitschülerInnen haben. Im Rahmen des Seminars „Biographie, Bildung und Differenz in der Migrationsgesellschaft“ wurde diese Problematik ausführlich behandelt, wie beispielsweise anhand von Interviewanalysen und Fallbeispielen. Daher beschäftigt sich die vorliegende Hausarbeit ebenfalls mit der Untersuchung der Hintergründe, inwiefern der Bildungserfolg von Kindern mit türkischem Migrationshintergrund von ihrer sozialen Herkunft abhängig ist.

Als eine der Hauptursachen werden immer wieder die mangelnde sprachliche Kompetenz in der Schulsprache und die damit verbundene unzureichende Nutzbarkeit von unterschiedlichen Lernangeboten aufgezeigt. ” (Steinbach 2009: 9) Die Probleme fangen schon mit der Einschulung an und reichen von der Zurückweisung in die Kitas bis zur Expedierung in die Sonderklassen. Dies ist nicht die gesamte Bandbreite der Probleme, auch die Selektionsentscheidungen sind es, die den Lebensweg von Kindern mit Migrationshintergrund erheblich beeinflussen. Im deutschen Bildungssystem bilden die türkischen Schüler(inne)n den größten Anteil unter den Migrantenkindern und nehmen besonders die ungünstigen Positionen im Schulsystem ein. Sie haben die meisten schulischen Probleme, erleben mehr Bildungsbenachteiligungen und werden aufgrund ihrer religiösen und kulturellen Andersartigkeit von der deutschen Gesellschaft oft als fremd charakterisiert (vgl. Arnold-Rösner 1986: 52; Boos-Nüning: 62). Der Fokus dieser Arbeit richtet sich primär auf die Darstellung der Bildungsproblematik der türkischen Kinder und Jugendlichen mit Migrationshintergrund im deutschen Schul- und Bildungssystem. Dabei sollen einerseits die Sozialisationsbedingungen innerhalb der Familie wie Erziehungsziele, Elterngeneration sowie andererseits die ökonomische und soziale Lage untersucht werden. Der Arbeit liegt die zentrale These zugrunde, dass Kinder und Jugendliche mit türkischem Migrationshintergrund institutionellen sowie soziokulturellen Benachteiligungen unterliegen, welche letztendlich dazu führen, dass sie schlechtere Abschlüsse aufzeigen als deutsche Kinder und Jugendliche. Die Arbeit gliedert sich in 4 Teile. Im ersten Teil (Kap. 2) wird auf die Migration und deren Entwicklung in Deutschland eingegangen. Dr. Milewski is now working for the University of Rostock, but at the time she wrote the book, she was a research scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research. The book is a slightly-revised version of her doctoral dissertation (“Fertility of Immigrants and Their Descendants in West Germany: An Event History Approach”), which she completed at the Max Planck Institute and submitted to the University of Rostock. She was awarded highest honors, summa cum laude, for her dissertation. As Professor Jan Hoem wrote in his review of Dr. Milewski’s dissertation, the research focuses on the patterns and levels of childbearing among immigrant women. Given Germany’s varied immigration experience with refugees, asylum seekers, guest workers, and foreign-born persons of German ancestry, Dr. Milewski’s topic is of particular interest, especially with regard to differences in the patterns and levels of childbearing among various kinds of immigrants to Germany vs. native-born Germans. Numerous empirical and theoretical studies of childbearing among immigrants to various countries have been published and Dr. Milewski carefully reviews them. While earlier studies have tended to be rather fragmentary, particularly for European populations, Dr. Milewski’s research provides a comp- hensive picture of the recent female fertility of post-war migrants and their desc- dants in West Germany, with an emphasis on migrants who came to Germany to work.

In subsequent meetings a mutual interest emerged in the development of cognitive information processing metaphors for human thought and their application to problems of social perception, memory and judgment. Within the context of modern research on social cognition, the most distinctive aspects of the authors’ work was its empirical focus on how people cognitively represent people in memory, and its theoretical emphasis on models of cognitive organization and process. They concluded that an adequate theory of social memory was the necessary foundation for solutions to many questions concerning social perception and judgment that had dominated the 1974 workshop. This volume summarizes work conducted between 1974 and 1979 on social memory by these authors.
