Understanding "Les Fleurs du Mal" fills this gap by providing students and serious readers with clear, scholarly "explications" to many of the most widely read of Baudelaire's poems.

Download or read book Ici-là written by Mary Gallagher and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2003 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Caribbean writing, place is intimately inflected by displacement - place and displacement are not dichotomous; every 'here' invariably implies a 'there'. In line with this extreme imbrication of (dis)location, Caribbean writing in French explores questions of increasing global pertinence such as the relation between writing and displacement, local and distant space, text and place, identity and migration, passage and transformation. Contributions range across genres and the work of writers such as Aimé Césaire, Patrick Chamoiseau, René Dépestre, Édouard Glissant, Émile Ollivier, Gisèle Pineau, Simone Schwarz-Bart and Ernest Pépin. Topics explored include the poetics of dwelling space, the postmodern or postcolonial dynamic of the Creole town, and the textualization of place and displacement. Also included are essays on the drama of distance, the metamorphosis of recent Haitian writing, the literary reverberations of the figure of Toussaint L'Ouverture, and links between Ireland and the French Caribbean.

Book excerpt: Tradition and Form is a book in the educational series by the Fonteyn Academy Press. It accompanies the Academy Method International Teacher Certificate training program, but is quite helpful to all instructors and students of dance. The Academy Method is taught at The Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet. It is based on the fundamental principles of movement as they apply to classical theatrical dancing. Carrying forward the teachings of Margaret Craske, and her students, this is what Dame Margot Fonteyn herself studied so long as she was dancing. This book tells how the traditions of classical theatrical dance began, and shows how they have evolved over the centuries. It explains the history from the perspective of the professional dancer, and is designed for those who teach and study classical dance.
