Download or read book Cien Poemas y Una Utopía written by Jaime Paredes and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-06-04 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. ¡Bienvenido!
Book Synopsis Communicology of the South by : Carlos F. Del Valle Rojas
Download or read book Communicology of the South written by Carlos F. Del Valle Rojas and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-29 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses new conceptual bases for thinking critically about communication as a necessary way in which to confront power, property and the market as part of the daily resistance of Latin American subaltern cultures. The chapters research an urgent field of situated knowledge and spark a much-needed dialogue. The editors view emancipatory communication experiences as disruptive acts of resistance, prompted mainly by social movements. These experiences have opened up political modes of communication by establishing a decolonising axis in the field of communication and reconstructing the history and memory of Latin America. This book is a valuable reference for researchers, academics and students interested in the role of communication and culture in processes of social transformation.
Book Synopsis Wonder as a New Starting Point for Theological Anthropology by : José Francisco Morales Torres
Download or read book Wonder as a New Starting Point for Theological Anthropology written by José Francisco Morales Torres and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2023-04-04 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Wonder as a New Starting Point for Theological Anthropology: Opened by the World, José Francisco Morales Torres constructs a new theological anthropology that begins with wonder. He contends that the visceral experience of wonder is an opening up of the human by an excess that saturates the world. This opened-by-ness points to a transforming receptivity as the basis of the person and to an extravagant Generosity that grounds all creation. Thus, wonder, which is grounded in generous Excess, is not only a gift but a demand: it calls for a liberative praxis that resist the forces that flatten the fullness of life into what is ‘useful’ and profitable and that reduce the limitless worth of fellow humans to mere commodities to be exploited and exchanged at the altar of the idolatrous ‘Market’. Wonder reveals a primordial receptivity in the human person, which demands of us an ethic of sustainability that does not reduce the other to commodity, a vulnerability that risks being opened by the other, a commitment to solidarity and liberation that resist the forces of an insatiable, idolatrous Market that seeks “only to steal and kill and destroy.”
Book Synopsis A defence of armed Art/Struggle by : Óscar Guardiola-Rivera
Download or read book A defence of armed Art/Struggle written by Óscar Guardiola-Rivera and published by Editorial Tadeo Lozano. This book was released on 2019-08-16 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Such obsessive antinomian attitude and constraint, which I have provocatively termed “armed” struggle in the way to (rather than as the opposite of) peace, present as spirit, collective effervescence, combat, or phantasm in institutionalizing or constitutive rituals (exemplified by the oath by sceptre episode in classical literature, and often imagined as an original “contract” authorized by a generic “will” that legitimates law in modern literature), is represented under the political economy of the industrial-colonial regime in a state of suspension or “emergency”. In this respect, as suggested above, the “state of emergency” that according to Benjamin has become the rule isn’t the consequence of violence. On the contrary, it’s the attempt to suspend combat, to externally impose upon peoples a fictive unity (the unity of their ‘needs’) and to extract from peoples their ability to use force as well as do battle against the sovereign.
Book Synopsis Utopias in Latin America by : Juan Pro
Download or read book Utopias in Latin America written by Juan Pro and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Latin America has historically been a fertile ground where utopian projects, movements, and experiments could take root and thrive. Each of the thirteen authors in this collective volume address a particular case or specific aspect of Latin American utopianism from colonial times to the present day. The America that the Spanish and Portuguese discovered became, from the sixteenth century onwards, a space in which it was possible to imagine the widest variety of forms of human coexistence. Utopias in Latin America reconsiders the sense and understanding of utopias in various historical frames: the discovery of indigenous cultures and their natural environments; the foundation of new towns and cities in a vast colonial territory; the experimental communities of nineteenth-century utopian socialists and European exiled intellectuals; and the innovative formulae that attempts to get beyond twentieth-century capitalism.

Book Synopsis Critical Marxism in Mexico by : Stefan Gandler
Download or read book Critical Marxism in Mexico written by Stefan Gandler and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Critical Marxism in Mexico, Stefan Gandler, coming from the tradition of the Frankfurt School, reveals the contributions that Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez and Bolívar Echeverría have made to universal thought. While in recent times Latin America has taken its distance from global power centers, and reorganised its political and economic relations, in philosophy the same tendency is barely visible. Critical Marxism in Mexico is a contribution to the reorganisation of international philosophical discussion, with Critical Theory as the point of departure. Despite having studied in Europe, where philosophical Eurocentrism remains virulent, Gandler opens his eyes to another tradition of modernity and offers an account of the life and philosophy of Adolfo Sánchez Vázquez and Bolívar Echeverría, former senior faculty members at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

Book Synopsis Landscapes of Liminality by : Dara Downey
Download or read book Landscapes of Liminality written by Dara Downey and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2016-11-16 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Landscapes of Liminality expands upon existing notions of spatial practice and spatial theory, and examines more intricately the contingent notion of “liminality” as a space of “in-between-ness” that avoids either essentialism or stasis. It capitalises on the extensive research that has already been undertaken in this area, and elaborates on the increasingly important and interrelated notion of liminality within contemporary discussions of spatial practice and theories of place. Bringing together international scholarship, the book offers a broad range of cross-disciplinary approaches to theories of liminality including literary studies, cultural studies, human geography, social studies, and art and design. The volume offers a timely and fascinating intervention which will help in shaping current debates concerning landscape theory, spatial practice, and discussions of liminality.
Book Synopsis Delimitations of Latin American Philosophy by : Omar Rivera
Download or read book Delimitations of Latin American Philosophy written by Omar Rivera and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A distinctive focus of 19th- and 20th-century Latin American philosophy is the convergence of identity formation and political liberation in ethnically and racially diverse postcolonial contexts. From this perspective, Omar Rivera interprets how a "we" is articulated and deployed in central political texts of this robust philosophical tradition. In particular, by turning to the work of Peruvian political theorist José Carlos Mariátegui among others, Rivera critiques philosophies of liberation that are invested in the redemption of oppressed identities as conditions for bringing about radical social and political change, foregrounding Latin America's complex histories and socialities to illustrate the power and shortcomings of these projects. Building on this critical approach, Rivera studies interrelated epistemological, transcultural, and aesthetic delimitations of Latin American philosophy in order to explore the possibility of social and political liberation "beyond redemption."
Book Synopsis México Profundo by : Guillermo Bonfil Batalla
Download or read book México Profundo written by Guillermo Bonfil Batalla and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2010-06-28 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This translation of a major work in Mexican anthropology argues that Mesoamerican civilization is an ongoing and undeniable force in contemporary Mexican life. For Guillermo Bonfil Batalla, the remaining Indian communities, the "de-Indianized" rural mestizo communities, and vast sectors of the poor urban population constitute the México profundo. Their lives and ways of understanding the world continue to be rooted in Mesoamerican civilization. An ancient agricultural complex provides their food supply, and work is understood as a way of maintaining a harmonious relationship with the natural world. Health is related to human conduct, and community service is often part of each individual's life obligation. Time is circular, and humans fulfill their own cycle in relation to other cycles of the universe. Since the Conquest, Bonfil argues, the peoples of the México profundo have been dominated by an "imaginary México" imposed by the West. It is imaginary not because it does not exist, but because it denies the cultural reality lived daily by most Mexicans. Within the México profundo there exists an enormous body of accumulated knowledge, as well as successful patterns for living together and adapting to the natural world. To face the future successfully, argues Bonfil, Mexico must build on these strengths of Mesoamerican civilization, "one of the few original civilizations that humanity has created throughout all its history."

Book excerpt: Set in late 1980s Europe at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Black Dogs is the intimate story of the crumbling of Bernard and June Tremaine’s marriage, as witnessed by their son-in-law, Jeremy, who seeks to comprehend how their deep love could be defeated by ideological differences that seem irreconcilable. In writing June’s memoirs, Jeremy is led back to a moment, that was, for June, as devastating and irreversible in its consequences as the changes sweeping Europe in Jeremy’s own time. Ian McEwan weaves the sinister reality of civilization’s darkest moods—its black dogs—with the tensions that both create love and destroy it.
Book Synopsis The End of the World as a Work of Art by : Rafael Argullol
Download or read book The End of the World as a Work of Art written by Rafael Argullol and published by Bucknell University Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Interdisciplinary in nature, the book crosses thematic as well as genre boundaries in a style regarded as "transversal." The poetical essays that comprise the story are full of both literary and philosophical allusions, yet also devoid of theoretical terms or references and there fore read like fiction. That may be the reason why the work became a non-fiction bestseller in Spain shortly after its original publication."
