He likes girls quite a bit... but doesn't quite understand them. He enjoys hanging out with his friends, and sleeping late on Saturdays... at least until the good cartoons come on. The only difference between Mark and everyone else is that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, and as of late, he seems to be inheriting his father's powers. Which sounds okay at first, but how do you follow in your father's footsteps when you know you will never live up to his standards? THIS ISSUE: Get in on the ground floor, because it all starts here! Strange things begin to happen to Mark Grayson as he begins to develop superpowers. Luckily, his dad is around to show him the ropes, at least he WOULD be if he weren't so busy saving the world all the time. Mark is forced to go out on his own, and try and figure out how all this superheroing business works. The results are a monumental disaster, at least until he gets the hang of it. Watch Mark thwart thieving super-villains, alien invasions and all sorts of craziness.

Book Synopsis Churchill's Dilemma by : Graham T. Clews
Download or read book Churchill's Dilemma written by Graham T. Clews and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2010-09-13 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book completely rewrites the history of the origins of the Dardanelles Campaign and Winston Churchill's role in it, adding a new perspective to the military and political history of World War I. Churchill's Dilemma: The Real Story Behind the Origins of the 1915 Dardanelles Campaign is an entirely original study of the origins of the disastrous Dardanelles Campaign of 1915 and Winston Churchill's role in it. The work challenges long-held beliefs about Churchill's actions as First Lord, including the perceptions that he had a preoccupation with the Dardanelles bordering on obsession, and that he only reluctantly promoted a naval-only attempt to force the Dardanelles because there were no troops available for a full-scale amphibious assault on the Peninsula. Opening with a brief study of prewar naval policy in the age of the mine and submarine and the implications of the growing threat from Germany, this in-depth study shows that neither perception is true. Churchill's preoccupation was with northern Europe, not the Mediterranean. He promoted his naval-only operation because he hoped this would preempt a major British military commitment to a southern theatre that would compromise his northern aspirations. In studying the motivations that drove and the other key players in this drama, this groundbreaking work does nothing less than unlock the true origins of the Dardanelles campaign.
Book Synopsis Nuclear Playground by : Stewart Firth
Download or read book Nuclear Playground written by Stewart Firth and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-19 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late 1980s it was felt that World War III could start in the Pacific. Long regarded by the USA as an American lake, the Pacific was now a focus of competition between the superpowers. The USSR, whose nuclear-arms navy was limited to their north Pacific ports, now had a major new naval base at Cam Ranh Bay in Vietnam. In response to this new threat, the Americans were planning more urgently for nuclear war in the Pacific, adding to their own mighty arsenal in the region and taunting the Soviets with aggressive surveillance and military exercises. The Soviets did the same. For 40 years, Pacific Islanders have had cause to resent the use of their ocean as a nuclear playground: of the five nuclear powers, three – the USA, USSR and China – launched missiles into the Pacific for text purposes; two – the USA and Britain – exploded nuclear devices there but had stopped; and one, France, continued to test nuclear bombs in one of its colonies. Pacific Islanders now have cause to fear that the ocean is becoming a nuclear battleground. Originally published in 1987, this book tells the story of the nuclear men in the Pacific and of those people they ‘displaced’ and irradiated. It is also about what these people and their governments had begun to do in response. The nuclear issue had transformed the political landscape of Micronesia and the South Pacific in the 1980s, loosening the US grip and making the French increasingly unpopular. The people of these remote communities, largely forgotten or considered dispensable, had a nuclear past made for them. Now they want to make their own future.

Book Synopsis Mysticism and Witness in Koinonia by : Maria Clara Bingemer

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Testimony until the end in a radical donation of life and blood can be communitarian and not only individual. That is the case for the two communities of Trappists and Jesuits, so different in their form and so close in their radicality. One is contemplative, the other active; one is in Africa, the other in Latin America. Both are religious Catholic orders. Nevertheless, the cause of their violent death is secular. For one, there is love and dialogue with otherness: other cultures, other religions, other beliefs. For the other, there is justice for those who are the victims of iniquitous economic and political systems: the poor. Assuming secular causes into their religious consecration and commitment, those communities teach today to the plural society we live in how to be open to otherness, to difference, and to the various vulnerabilities that clamor for justice. They also teach to the churches a new radical way to live the gospel—not with a unique institutional point of view but with an unlimited openness to all hungers and thirsts of the world. Their martyrdom is a liturgy celebrated publicly, instigating reflection and action.
Book Synopsis Inventing Iron Man by : E. Paul Zehr
Download or read book Inventing Iron Man written by E. Paul Zehr and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2011-10-01 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tony Stark has been battling bad guys and protecting innocent civilians since he first donned his mechanized armor in the 1963 debut of Iron Man in Marvel Comics. Over the years, Stark’s suit has allowed him to smash through walls, fly through the air like a human jet, control a bewildering array of weaponry by thought alone, and perform an uncountable number of other fantastic feats. The man who showed us all what it would take to become Batman probes whether science—and humankind—is up to the task of inventing a real-life Iron Man. E. Paul Zehr physically deconstructs Iron Man to find out how we could use modern-day technology to create a suit of armor similar to the one Stark made. Applying scientific principles and an incredibly creative mind to the question, Zehr looks at how Iron Man’s suit allows Stark to become a superhero. He discusses the mind-boggling and body-straining feats Iron Man performed to defeat villains like Crimson Dynamo, Iron Monger, and Whiplash and how such acts would play out in the real world. Zehr finds that science is nearing the point where a suit like Iron Man’s could be made. But superherodom is not just about technology. Zehr also discusses our own physical limitations and asks whether an extremely well-conditioned person could use Iron Man’s armor and do what he does. A scientifically sound look at brain-machine interfaces and the outer limits where neuroscience and neural plasticity meet, Inventing Iron Man is a fun comparison between comic book science fiction and modern science. If you’ve ever wondered whether you have what it takes to be the ultimate human-machine hero, then this book is for you.
