Book Synopsis Air Safety Investigators by : Alan E. Diehl, PhD
Download or read book Air Safety Investigators written by Alan E. Diehl, PhD and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-03-18 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascinating story explains how aviation crashes are investigated, and what goes on behind the scenes to improve safety. It is also the untold saga of how one maverick scientist battled the bureaucracy to save lives. Federal officials hired him to prevent an anticipated bloodbath from airline deregulation. He soon introduced innovations, such as Crew Resource Management training, which dramatically reduced airline accidents. However, when he dared expose lies to Congress, officials used the sky marshals to harass him. They then ignored his other programs, which contributed to countless unnecessary deaths -- including JFK Junior's. Becoming a military safety guru, his important tasks included training Air Force One crews, and going undercover to discover why a mysterious Soviet airliner crash killed an African president. But he was fired for blowing the whistle on the Pentagon cover-up of the worst fratricide since Vietnam. Congress and other important organizations have often sought his advice on civil and military aviation problems.
Book Synopsis The U.S. Air Service in World War I, Volume IV: Postwar Review by :
Download or read book The U.S. Air Service in World War I, Volume IV: Postwar Review written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1979 with total page 635 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the Armistice in 1918, Maj. Gen. Mason M. Patrick, Chief of Air Service, American Expeditionary Forces, directed that a record be made of lessons learned during the war. This information, he believed, was needed for planning the Air Service of the future. The reports prepared by commanders, pilots, observers, and other members of the various Air Service units in response to General Patrick's directive are of considerable historical interest for the information they contain about the Air Service and its employment at the front. A select group of the reports on lessons learned make up Part 1 of this volume of World War I documents on U.S. military aviation. Part II is devoted to a report on the effects of Allied bombing in World War I. This long-forgotten document, the result of a post-war investigation by the Air Intelligence Section of General Headquarters, American Expeditionary Forces, is the counterpart of the well-known United States Strategic Bombing Survey of World War II.

Download or read book Safety in the Skies written by Cynthia C. Lebow and published by RAND Corporation. This book was released on 1999 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) bears a significant share of the responsibility for ensuring the safety of domestic and international air travel. The NTSB relies on teamwork to resolve accidents; the parties that participate in an investigation may include manufacturers and operatiors, as well as the Federal Aviation Administration. This arrangement works well under most circumstances, despite inherent conflicts of interest may jeopardize, or be perceived to jeopardize, the intergity of the NTSB investigation. The NTSB's ability to lead investigations and to form expert teams is aldo seriously threatened by a lack of training, equipment, and facilities; by poor control of information; and inadequate aids to project management.
