Download or read book Investigation at High Subsonic Speeds of Methods of Alleviating the Adverse Interference at the Root of a Swept-back Wing written by Lee E. Boddy and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interference at the root of a swept-back wing was investigated at high subsonic Mach numbers by means of wind-tunnel measurements of a wing-body combination having the 50-percent-chord line of the wing either unswept or swept back 35 degrees. Modifications to the body contour and to the wing-root profile designed to alleviate the small interference of the swept configuration were evaluated by force and pressure-distribution measurements.

Download or read book A Buffet Investigation at High Subsonic Speeds of Wing-fuselage-tail Combinations Having Sweptback Wings with NACA 64A Thickness Distributions, Fences, a Leading-edge Extension, and Body Contouring written by Fred B. Sutton and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been made to determine the effect of wing fences, a wing leading-edge extension, changing wing sweepback angle from 40 to 45 and 50 degrees, fuselage contouring, and varying horizontal tail height upon the buffeting response of some typical airplane configurations employing sweptback wings with high aspect ratios. The tests were conducted through an angle-of-attack range at Mach numbers varying from 0.60 to 0.92 at a Reynolds number of 2 million.

McDevitt and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Additional tests, which involved changes in wing position relative to the body, indicated that wing position had little effect on the aerodynamic characteristics of the unmodified wing-body combinations.
Book Synopsis An Experimental Study of a Method of Designing the Sweptback-wing - Fuselage Juncture for Reducing the Drag at Transonic Speeds by : Robert R. Howell
Download or read book An Experimental Study of a Method of Designing the Sweptback-wing - Fuselage Juncture for Reducing the Drag at Transonic Speeds written by Robert R. Howell and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been made in the Langley transonic blowdown tunnel at Mach numbers between 0.84 and 1.32 at an angle of attack of zero degrees to determine the pressure-drag reductions attainable on a sweptback-wing - fuselage configuration tested consisted of a 45 degree sweptback wing of aspect ratio 4 in combination with a fineness-ratio-6.7 body. The results indicate that the pressure drag of a practical sweptback-wing - body configuration depends on the body cross-sectional shape as well as upon the longitudinal distribution of cross-sectional area.

Book Synopsis Relationship of Metal Surfaces to Heat-aging Properties of Adhesive Bonds by : J. M. Black
Download or read book Relationship of Metal Surfaces to Heat-aging Properties of Adhesive Bonds written by J. M. Black and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was made to determine the probable causes of deterioration of each of several adhesives in bonds to stainless steel at temperatures from 400 to 550 degrees F. Prellminary studies of aluminum surfaces on which ions of metals used in staLnless steel were introduced showed that iron was probably catalyzing a thermal deterioration of the adhesive. The resistance of FPL-878 adhesive to thermal deterioration at 550 degrees F on steel was improved signiffcantly by treating the steel surface to be bonded with either zinc or cerium naphthenate and firing at 1,200 degrees F. The addition of manganese dioxide to the adhesive also increased its resistance to thermal deterioration. A study of the thermal-aging properties of five different chemical types of adhesives on stainless steel and alumina revealed that a phenol-nitrile rubber adhesive was superior to a phenol-epoxy adhesive on steel, but this order was reversed on alumina. These and other observations indicated probable specific relationships among the chemical structure of the adhesive, the metal adherend, and the resultant thermal stability of bonds after aging at high temperatures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation was conducted to determine the effects of various geometric and flow factors on the discharge coefficients for circular holes having flow parallel to the plane of the hole. The geometric and flow factors considered were hole diameter, wall thickness at the hole, parallel-fllow duct height, boundary-layer thickness, parallel-flow velocity, static-pressure level, and pressure ratio across the test hole.
