Book Synopsis Invariant Imbedding and Neutron Transport Theory. V: Diffusion as a Limiting Case by : Richard Bellman
Download or read book Invariant Imbedding and Neutron Transport Theory. V: Diffusion as a Limiting Case written by Richard Bellman and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diffusion theory classically has been regarded as an approximation to the more rigorous (but, of course, not completely rigorous) transport theory under the assumption of high velocity and small mean free path. Furthermore, passage to the limit in the 'telegrapher's equation, ' a linear partial differential equation of hyperbolic type, has been carried out. The limits are studied of the non-linear functional equations obtained from the transport processes with finite velocity as the velocity increases without bound. Corresponding results are obtained for heat or diffusion processes, where the physical picture is not as clear. The equations can be interpreted in such a way as to be derived by invariant imbedding techniques. In all cases, the equations are of the generalized Riccati type which are characteristic of these processes of mathematical physics.
Book Synopsis Quasilinearization and Invariant Imbedding by : E. Stanley Lee
Download or read book Quasilinearization and Invariant Imbedding written by E. Stanley Lee and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-04 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics in Science and Engineering, Volume 41: Quasilinearization and Invariant Imbedding presents a study on the use of two concepts for obtaining numerical solutions of boundary-value problems—quasilinearization and invariant imbedding. This book emphasizes that the invariant imbedding approach reformulates the original boundary-value problem into an initial value problem by introducing new variables or parameters, while the quasilinearization technique represents an iterative approach combined with linear approximations. This volume focuses on analytical aspects that are concerned with actual convergence rates and computational requirements, considering various efficient algorithms that are suited for various types of boundary-value problems. This publication is a good reference for chemical and control engineers and scientists interested in obtaining numerical solutions of boundary-value problems in their particular fields.

Book Synopsis Application of Invariant Embedding to Reactor Physics by : Akinao Shimizu
Download or read book Application of Invariant Embedding to Reactor Physics written by Akinao Shimizu and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Application of Invariant Embedding to Reactor Physics describes the application of the method of invariant embedding to radiation shielding and to criticality calculations of atomic reactors. The authors intend to show how this method has been applied to realistic problems, together with the results of applications which will be useful to shielding design. The book is organized into two parts. Part A deals with the reflection and transmission of gamma rays by slabs. The chapters in this section cover topics such as the reflection and transmission problem of gamma rays; formulation of the problem based on the invariant embedding principle; solutions of equations for simplified models; and solving the equations for the reflection and transmission functions based on the realistic cross section for gamma rays. Part B discusses applications to criticality calculations, covering one-dimensional and two-dimensional problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a collection of some of the most significant mathematical works of Prof Richard E Bellman. Ten areas of Prof Bellman's mathematical research were selected by his co-workers for this volume. Each chapter starts with an introductory comment on the significance of Bellman's contribution. Some important mathematical theories are put forward and their applications in physics and biology such as the mathematical aspect of chemotherapy and the analysis of biological systems are included in this book.

Book Synopsis Light Scattering Reviews, Volume 11 by : Alexander Kokhanovsky
Download or read book Light Scattering Reviews, Volume 11 written by Alexander Kokhanovsky and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-12 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the eleventh volume in the series Light Scattering Reviews, devoted to current knowledge of light scattering problems and both experimental and theoretical research techniques related to their solution. The focus of this volume is to describe modern advances in radiative transfer and light scattering optics. This book brings together the most recent studies on light radiative transfer in the terrestrial atmosphere, while also reviewing environmental polarimetry. The book is divided into nine chapters: • the first four chapters review recent advances in modern radiative transfer theory and provide detailed descriptions of radiative transfer codes (e.g., DISORT and CRTM). Approximate solutions of integro-differential radiative transfer equations for turbid media with different shapes (spheres, cylinders, planeparallel layers) are detailed; • chapters 5 to 8 focus on studies of light scattering by single particles and radially inhomogeneous media; • the final chapter discusses the environmental polarimetry of man-made objects.

Book Synopsis Transport Theory by : Richard Bellman
Download or read book Transport Theory written by Richard Bellman and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1969 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The industrial and military applications of atomic energy have stimulated much mathematical research in neutron transport theory. The possibility of controlled thermonuclear processes has similarly focussed attention upon plasmas, sometimes called the "fourth state of matter". Independently, many classical aspects of kinetic theory and radiative transfer theory have been studied both because of their basic mathematical interest and of their physical applications to areas such as upper-atmosphere meteorology - introduction.
