Book Synopsis Introduction to Reformed Dogmatics by : Auguste Lecerf
Download or read book Introduction to Reformed Dogmatics written by Auguste Lecerf and published by James Clarke Company. This book was released on 2003-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Auguste Lecerf was one of the ablest 'reformed' theologians of the twentieth century. His lectures at the University of Paris were praised for their succinctness, controversial skill and deep learning. His Introduction to Reformed Dogmatics was incomplete at the time of his death in 1943. The first two volumes, translated here, entitled De la Nature de la Connaissance Religieuse and De Fondement et de la Specification de la Connaissance Religieuse, stand on their own and form a major contribution to theology. Part I discusses the nature of religious knowledge whereas Part II concentrates on the question of apologetics in Calvinism whist exploring philosophy and dogma. Lecerf's work forms a profound study of the nature and basis of religious knowledge and offers a valuable critique of European philosophy from the standpoint of authentic or classical Calvinism. The work has become an influential and widely regarded Calvinist work, and is valued for its penetrating insights and strong Biblical emphasis. Anyone with an interest in Calvinism should remember the enigmatic words of the visitor to Lecerf's door in 1930 who introduced himself with these words: "M. Lecerf is a unique personality, they say, he is in fact the last of the Calvinists and when he dies the type will be extinct. So whatever happens, do not fail to pay him a visit.".

Book excerpt: Dutch Calvinist theologian Herman Bavinck, a significant voice in the development of Protestant theology, remains relevant many years after his death. His four-volume Reformed Dogmatics is one of the most important theological works of the twentieth century. James Eglinton is widely considered to be at the forefront of contemporary interest in Bavinck's life and thought. After spending considerable time in the Netherlands researching Bavinck, Eglinton brings to light a wealth of new insights and previously unpublished documents to offer a definitive biography of this renowned Reformed thinker. The book follows the course of Bavinck's life in a period of dramatic social change, identifying him as an orthodox Calvinist challenged with finding his feet in late modern culture. Based on extensive archival research, this critical biography presents numerous significant and previously ignored or unknown aspects of Bavinck's person and life story. A black-and-white photo insert is included. This volume complements other Baker Academic offerings on Bavinck's theology and ethics, which together have sold 90,000 copies.

This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many books aim to help beginners explore whether or not evolutionary science is compatible with Christian faith. This one probes more deeply to ask: What do we learn from modern evolutionary science about key issues that are of special theological concern? And what does Christian theology, especially in its Reformed expressions, say about those same key issues? Gijsbert van den Brink begins by describing the layers of meaning in the phrase “evolutionary theory” and exploring the question of how to interpret the Bible with regard to science. He then works through five key areas of potential conflict between evolutionary theory and Christian faith, spelling out scientific findings and analyzing Christian doctrinal concerns along the way. His conclusion: although some traditional doctrinal interpretations must be adjusted, evolutionary science is no obstacle to classical Christian faith.
