Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is the result of four years of teaching European Union Transport Law to the law students of the University of Roma Tre. The handbook is divided into four modules, reflecting areas where the intervention of EU law has been most significant: air transport, rail transport, port services and passengers’ rights. With the evolution of transport regulation in the EU in these last years and thanks to the success of the first edition (over 2000 downloads in 18 months), we have considered it useful to expand the topics presented in this primer. In particular we have added in this second edition a specific module on the painstaking process of opening port services to competition. Furthermore a paragraph has been added on the Single European Sky (SES) programme. The second part of the handbook includes the most relevant judgments and decisions by the EU Courts and Commission which we found particularly useful to illustrate, from a practical point of view, the policies underlying EU transport law and the conflicting interests of the various stakeholders.

This eighth edition has been fully revised and updated with the latest legislative changes and includes an in-depth discussion of ‘Brexit’ and its implications for EU–UK relations. The book provides readers with a clear understanding of the structures and rationale behind EU law, explaining how and why the law has developed as it has. In addition to discussing the core areas of EU law such as its sources, the role and powers of the EU’s Institutions, the enforcement of EU law and the law of the internal market, this edition also includes a new chapter on three ‘non-economic’ areas of EU law: fundamental human rights, equality (non-discrimination) and the environment. This student-friendly text is both broad in scope and highly accessible. It will inspire students towards further study and show that understanding EU law can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. As well as being essential reading for Law students, Understanding European Union Law is also suitable for students on other courses where basic knowledge of EU law is required or useful, such as business studies, political science, international relations or European studies programmes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The real reason for the emergence of this book is that it is hard to find resources to explain complex issues of the EU Law in plain language, which makes it very difficult for those taking an interest, in particular law students. Moreover, many years of teaching experience in this subject and seeing students experience difficulties is the key driver behind this book. This book does not repeat material that is available in many textbooks that are in print. Rather, it endeavours to present every topic in plain language and concludes every chapter with a fictitious explanatory sample case. In other words, it is an introduction to the subject of EU Law, the objective of which is to explain the topic both theoretically and in its application dimension. Additionally, this book will assist students to prepare for coursework/examinations. At the end of the book there is also a test that summarizes all the subjects contained in the book, which is appropriate to the first stage SQE (Solicitors Qualifying Examination) examination model that will be introduced in September 2021. EU Law Book by Dr Çınar is different than other textbooks in the market, as it is designed to make sense of a complex area of law in a simple yet comprehensive way. The book contains materials relating to EU law with all the notable cases and materials collected in one place. It is written in plain language in the form of question and answers. At the end of each chapter, there is a case study which helps to put theory into practice. EU Law is accessible, readable and user- friendly. I would recommend it without hesitation to legal scholars and practitioners. Dr Aysem Diker Vanberg, Senior Lecturer, University of Greenwich This clear and concise book provides a practical overview of EU law and will be an excellent study aid for law students. It explains the key topics of EU law in an accessible and engaging manner through a Q&A model and case studies that demonstrate how the law is applied. Dr Johanna Hoekstra, Lecturer, University of Essex The is an accessible, easy to read and very useful book covering all the essential areas of EU law making them easily understood. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ? The Hon. Michael Kirby AC CMG This splendid book performs the heroic task of introducing readers to the large canvas of the commercial law of the European Union (EU). The EU began as an economic community of six nations but has grown into 27 member states, sharing a signi?cant political, social and legal cohesion and serving almost 500 million citizens. It generates approximately 30% of the nominal gross world product. The EU is a remarkable achievement of trans-national co-operation, given the history (including recent history) of national, racial, ethnic and religious hatred and con?ict preceding its creation. Although, as the book recounts, the institutions of the EU grew directly out of those of the European Economic Community, created in 1957 [1.20], the genesis of the EU can be traced to the sufferings of the Second World War and to the disclosure of the barbarous atrocities of the Holocaust. Out of the chaos and ruins of historical enmities and the shattered cities and peoples that survived those terrible events, arose an astonishing pan- European Movement.

Book excerpt: Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this practical analysis of the structure, competence, and management of the European Union provides substantial and readily accessible information for lawyers, academics, and policymakers likely to have dealings with its activities and data. No other book gives such a clear, uncomplicated description of the organization’s role, its rules and how they are applied, its place in the framework of international law, or its relations with other organizations. The monograph proceeds logically from the organization’s genesis and historical development to the structure of its membership, its various organs and their mandates, its role in intergovernmental cooperation, and its interaction with decisions taken at the national level. Its competence, its financial management, and the nature and applicability of its data and publications are fully described. Systematic in presentation, this valuable time-saving resource offers the quickest, easiest way to acquire a sound understanding of the workings of the European Union for all interested parties. Students and teachers of international law will find it especially valuable as an essential component of the rapidly growing and changing global legal milieu.
