Book excerpt: INTRODUCING UFOs - A Young Person's GuideFULL COLOUR VERSIONWritten by Philip Mantle and illustrated by Ronald Kinsella. The UFO subject as we know it came to the public's attention on June 24th 1947 when private pilot Kenneth Arnold, flying over the Cascade Mountains in the USA, witnessed a formation of objects that he could not identify. Speaking later to a journalist regarding the encounter, Arnold was asked how this formation of objects moved through the air, and his response was: "Like skipping a saucer across a pond." From that moment on, the coined phrase 'Flying Saucer' was born.Since that time, the UFO subject has been studied by a variety of military agencies, scientists and of course civilian run organisations. As a result, there are thousands of UFO books and magazines available, plus countless news items and documentaries on television, social media and of course online. Very few of these cater for a younger audience, so that is where our book 'INTRODUCING UFOs - A Young Person's Guide' steps in. I think the title says it all.In this book, we look at selected case histories from the 1940's onwards. These documentations are not meant to be in-depth, but rather to illustrate the case in as brief a way as possible, without missing any salient points. The case histories chosen for this book come from around the world and are accompanied by illustrations, documents, photographs and maps. Each chapter is split into decades and comes complete with its own piece of unique artwork. The book also provides an overview on what to do if you encounter a UFO and discusses, in brief, some of the many theories put forward to try and explain the phenomenon. This book is designed with a young adolescent audience in mind and comes complete with a photo section, with a series of authentic UFO photographs from around the world. The UFO phenomena shows no signs of disappearing, hence a book that we hope might help the next generation of researchers in their quest for answers. This book has a selection of new and unique illustrations and a selection of UFO photographs from around the world. This is the full colour version of the book. A black and white version is also in print.ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR: Ronald Kinsella (illustrator): Ronald Kinsella is an artist and author. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Impeccably researched, this riveting journalistic investigation separates fact from fiction, and documents the unexplained mysteries of—and government reactions to—actual UFOs. “A treasure trove of insightful and eye-opening information.”—Michio Kaku, PH.D., bestselling author of Physics of the Future Leslie Kean, a veteran investigative reporter who has spent the past ten years studying the still-unexplained UFO phenomenon, reviewed hundreds of government documents, aviation reports, radar data, and case studies with corroborating physical evidence. She interviewed dozens of high-level officials and aviation witnesses from around the world. Among them, five Air Force generals and a host of high-level sources—including Fife Symington III, former governor of Arizona, and Nick Pope, former head of the British Defence Ministry’s UFO Investigative Unit—have written their own breathtaking, firsthand accounts about UFO encounters and investigations exclusively for this book. With the support of former White House chief of staff John Podesta, Kean lifts the veil on decades of U.S. government misinformation about this mysterious phenomenon and presents irrefutable evidence that unknown flying objects—metallic, luminous, and seemingly able to maneuver in ways that defy the laws of physics—actually exist. With a Foreword by John Podesta “The most important book on the phenomenon in a generation.”—Journal of Scientific Exploration “Written with penetrating depth and insight, the revelations in this book constitute a watershed event in lifting the taboo against rational discourse about this controversial subject.”—Harold E. Puthoff, PH.D., Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies at Austin “Kean presents the most accurate, most credible reports on UFOs you will ever find. She may not have the final smoking gun, but I smell the gunpowder.”—Miles O’Brien, science correspondent for PBS’s NewsHour

Book excerpt: "UFOs and Aliens: The Complete Guidebook," by award-winning Tennessee author and Southern historian Lochlainn Seabrook, is the ultimate primer for beginners, an invaluable resource for veteran ufologists, and a one-of-a-kind work that's packed with just about everything you'll ever want to know about extraterrestrials and their out-of-this-world craft. Seabrook writes knowledgeably, with verve and clarity, making the journey through this complex topic both entertaining and educational. Well researched, the book includes detailed descriptions of UFOs and aliens, a history of UFOs, 61 real casebook studies, proof of the reality of UFOs, a list of NASA UFO images, chapters on alien abduction, cattle mutilations, crop circles, Men in Black, skeptics, becoming a ufologist, and the worldwide UFO coverup. Also included: suggested books, DVDs, organizations, and Websites, a UFO sighting form, a useful glossary, and more. Erin Ryder of "Chasing UFOs" and "Destination Truth" calls Mr. Seabrook's work: "A truly remarkable introduction to UFOs that transcends all other guidebooks in the genre!" If you're looking for something on UFOs that explains them away as weather balloons, space debris, birds, meteors, Chinese lanterns, light refractions, or secret experimental aircraft, this is not the book for you. Having had his own UFO sightings, Mr. Seabrook respects his topic, writing with the enthusiasm of an open-minded believer rather than with the close-minded bias of a debunker. Still, his approach is essentially scientific, a refreshing position that only adds to the academic value of this engaging and enlightening work. A complete guidebook in every sense of the word, this is a must-have for anyone - particularly those new to the subject - who is looking for an affordable one-volume book that explores all facets of the UFO phenomenon. The Foreword is by Nick Pope, the "Real Fox Mulder," Head of the British Government's UFO Project 1991-1994, and author of "Open Skies, Closed Minds." Back cover blurbs are by nuclear physicist Stanton T. Friedman (author of "Crash At Corona: The U.S. Military Retrieval and Cover-Up of a UFO"), UFO authority Timothy Good (author of "Above Top Secret: The Worldwide UFO Cover-up"), and naval physicist Dr. Bruce Maccabee (author of "UFOs Are Real, Here's the Proof"). Historian Lochlainn Seabrook (CE1/CE4), recipient of the prestigious Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medal, is the author of over 45 popular adult and children's books. A seventh generation Kentuckian of Appalachian heritage, he has a 40 year background in the American Civil War, Confederate studies, the paranormal, spirituality, etymology, theology, thealogy, and comparative religion and mythology, and is the author of the runaway bestseller "Everything You Were Taught About the Civil War is Wrong, Ask a Southerner!"

Book excerpt: UFOs remain essentially a military and intelligence problem - and one demanding unprecedented security and deception, with access to information on a strictly 'need to know' basis. As early as 1960 former CIA director Admiral Hillenkoetter confirmed that, 'Behind the scenes, high-ranking air force officers are soberly concerned about the UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense.' The same could be said today. Based on many years of research by one of the world's most respected authorities on alien phenomena, Need to Know draws on top-secret documents, reports of encounters with large craft of unknown origin from pilots and personnel aboard aircraft carriers and destroyers and interviews with high-ranking military insiders. It is full of revelations, including the alarming escalation of aircraft accidents and the disappearance of hundreds of military aircraft during UFO encounters and recent near-misses with UFOs. The evidence is clear, balanced - and irrefutable.

What advanced technology must they possess to execute the fantastic maneuvers they are routinely reported to make? Astronomer William R. Alshuler takes a fascinating look at the reported attributes of UFOs through the lens of known science and physics and explains how they might be doing the weird and incredible things they are known to do. The purpose of this book is to provide the reader with an introduction to the UFO phenomenon, with an emphasis on the fact that, although some pretty weird people claim to see strange things in the sky, UFOs are seen by people from all walks of life around the world every day. And, although extraterrestrial life makes for great science fiction, scientists are confident that the discovery of life (including intelligent life) elsewhere in the universe is just around the corner. Even more surprising is the assertion by some scientists that extraterrestrial life has already been discovered. But the stigma surrounding these fascinating topics restricts the open public curiosity and unbiased scientific inquiry required for us to gain any insight into these mysteries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Resonance of Unseen Things offers an ethnographic meditation on the “uncanny” persistence and cultural freight of conspiracy theory. The project is a reading of conspiracy theory as an index of a certain strain of late 20th-century American despondency and malaise, especially as understood by people experiencing downward social mobility. Written by a cultural anthropologist with a literary background, this deeply interdisciplinary book focuses on the enduring American preoccupation with captivity in a rapidly transforming world. Captivity is a trope that appears in both ordinary and fantastic iterations here, and Susan Lepselter shows how multiple troubled histories—of race, class, gender, and power—become compressed into stories of uncanny memory. “We really don’t have anything like this in terms of a focused, sympathetic, open-minded ethnographic study of UFO experiencers. . . . The author’s semiotic approach to the paranormal is immensely productive, positive, and, above all, resonant with what actually happens in history.” —Jeffrey J. Kripal, J. Newton Rayzor Professor of Religion, Rice University “Lepselter relates a weave of intimate alien sensibilities in out-off-the-way places which are surprisingly, profoundly, close to home. Readers can expect to share her experience of contact with complex logics of feeling, and to do so in a contemporary America they may have thought they understood.” —Debbora Battaglia, Mount Holyoke College “An original and beautifully written study of contemporary American cultural poetics. . . . The book convincingly brings into relief the anxieties of those at the margins of American economic and civic life, their perceptions of state power, and the narrative continuities that bond them to histories of violence and expansion in the American West.” —Deirdre de la Cruz, University of Michigan

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new and compelling book which argues for the reality of Aliens and UFOs.Through a series of interesting and convincing “exhibits” and comparisons a legal case is made for the existence of Aliens and UFOs 'beyond a reasonable doubt.”In Section 1, the introduction of this book, legal evidence and the different levels of proof are discussed. The author proposes introducing evidence that is competent, relevant and material and that more than suffices to prove the case for the existence of Aliens and UFOs under the strictest evidentiary standard, “proof beyond a reasonable doubt.” Throughout the book numerous examples in the form of exhibits are provided. Section 2, “Ancient Historical Perspective,” includes selective examples of Alien and UFO sightings by our ancient ancestors – from cave dwellers to Christopher Columbus. They establish the fact that Alien and UFO sightings and encounters have been documented since the dawn of man. Much of the references to Aliens and UFOs are depicted or described in the limited terms familiar to the witnesses of the time and often explained within a restrictive religious framework. Section 3, “Application Of Scientific Reasoning,” presents scientific testimony for the existence of countless alien worlds and the almost certainty of intelligent life. It introduces man's attempt to scientifically classify and understand encounters while at the same coming to the realization that our understanding may be limited and elementary. Section 4, “Common Sense Argument,” discusses the relatively short span of man's existence, as compared to the probable longer span of older civilizations. It argues that we should be open to accepting the reality that we may not be the center of the universe and that we may still have much to learn. Section 5, “Recent Historical Perspective,” cites examples of recent Alien and UFO encounters. Radar, visual sightings, physical evidence and testimony of direct alien contact emphasize the fact that sightings and encounters are continuing and are becoming increasingly well documented. Section 6, “The Testimony Of Experts,” provides testimony – indirect and circumstantial (as in the case of Astronomer Carl Sagan) and very direct (as in the case of Astronaut Gordon Cooper). Section 7, “Select List Of UFOs In History,” contains numerous descriptions of UFO and Alien sightings – all providing strong proof that aliens and UFOs do indeed exist and are as real as astronauts and the space vehicles that transport them.
