This book was released on with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Cilji avtorjevega zgodovinskega iskanja in spraševanja so pot v tranzicijo, vstopanje Slovenije v različne mednarodne integracije, makroekonomska stabilizacija, privatizacija in prestrukturiranje gospodarstva.
Download or read book Through the Window written by Keith Doubt and published by Central European University Press. This book was released on 2014-09-01 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not about war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, evil, or the killing of a society. It is about a cultural heritage, something vital to a society as a society, something that was not killed in the previous war, something that is resilient. "Through the Window" brings an original perspective to folklore of Bosnians at a certain period of time and the differences and similarities of the three main ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It examines the transethnic character of cultural heritage, against divisions that dominate their tragic recent past. The monograph focuses in particular on customs shared by different ethnic groups, specifically elopement, and affinal visitation. The elopement is a transformative rite of passage where an unmarried girl becomes a married woman. The affinal visitation, which follows, is a confirmatory ceremony where ritualized customs between families establish in-lawships These customs reflect a transethnic heritage shared by people in Bosnia as a national group, including Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats.

Download or read book The Nonconformists written by Nick Miller and published by Central European University Press. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nick Miller argues in this provocative study that to comprehend Yugoslavia's collapse, we must examine the development and nature of Serbian nationalism, and the typical approaches will not suffice. Serbia's national movement of the 1980s and 1990s, Miller suggests, was not the product of an ancient, immutable, and aggressive Serbian national identity; nor was it an artificial creation of powerful political actors looking to capitalize on its mobilizing power. In examining the work of three influential Serbian intellectuals, Miller argues that cultural processes are too often ignored in favor of political ones; that Serbian intellectuals did work within a historical context, but that they were not slaves to the past; that Serbian history is not a continuous reiteration of static themes. His subjects are Dobrica Cosic (a novelist), Mica Popovic (a painter) and Borislav Mihajlovic Mihiz (a literary critic). These three men were part of a circle of friends who began the postwar with (mostly!) open minds about the promise of the new communist order and who wound up by 1974 as inveterate opponents of the regime and nationalists. Together, the work of these men indicates that nationalism was more than a tool for cynical and needy politicians, and less an ancient bequest than an unsurprising response to real conditions in Tito's Yugoslavia. Book Synopsis Food losses and waste in primary production by : Hartikainen, Hanna
Download or read book Food losses and waste in primary production written by Hartikainen, Hanna and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2017-02-22 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results from six case studies of food losses and waste in primary production in the Nordic region. The product groups studied were carrots, onions, cereal (wheat or rye), green peas, field peas, and cultivated fish (rainbow trout or char). We used different methods to study the side flows: questionnaires, in-field measurements and interviews. Instead of the term “food losses and waste” we use the term “side flows”. The side flow ranged from 4 % to 31 % for vegetables, cereals and pulses and most of the side flow for occurs after harvest, e.g. when sorting and storing the products. The main reason for side flow is quality issues. Weather conditions and diseases have a major impact on the quality of the products. We cannot draw many conclusions on side flow amounts for fish based on the results. The reasons for fish side flow are mainly diseases and predators.

Book Synopsis The Theology of Ethnocultural Empathic Turn by : Branko Sekulic
Download or read book The Theology of Ethnocultural Empathic Turn written by Branko Sekulic and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2024-10-15 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Theology of Ethnocultural Empathic Turn: Getting to the Core of Sacralized Crime delves into the roots of ethnoreligious tensions in the former Yugoslav territories and it provides a comprehensive understanding of this specific politico-religious issue, exposing how the sacralization of ethnonational mythology influences present-day conflicts. Through meticulous analysis, the author examines the intertwining of (ethno)totalitarianism and (ethno)clericalism in mentioned areas. Transitioning from historical analysis to proposing a solution, the author advocates for an “ethnocultural empathy turn,” integrating ethnocultural empathy as a branch of social psychology with the example of Jesus’s turn in Matthew 15:21–28. This book contributes significantly to developing the first Balkan contextual theology, drawing upon new political theology and theologies of liberation.

Book Synopsis Democratic Transition in Slovenia by : Danica Fink Hafner
Download or read book Democratic Transition in Slovenia written by Danica Fink Hafner and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first of the Yugoslav successor states to successfully build a democratic system and to enter the European Union, Slovenia stands as a model for democratic transition. This ground-breaking volume analyzes the challenges confronting the post-Communist government and evaluates the strategies adopted in refashioning its value system. Sabrina P. Ramet and Danica Fink-Hafner have assembled a team of outstanding specialists to analyze various aspects of the country's transformation from socialism to democracy. The editors note that while a great deal has been written on political and economic questions, relatively little attention has been paid to the transformation and transmission of values and norms in Eastern Europe over the past fifteen years. Slovenia's experience, reflected in these pages, demonstrates how a small country has created the preconditions necessary to the construction of a civic, democratic culture. Six values are emphasized as central to this project: tolerance, equality, church-state separation, respect for democratic procedure and the rule of law, human rights, and civic-mindedness. The volume editors join the other contributors in discussing the way in which Slovenia has set out to build democracy, the ways in which values are transmitted, the role of the media in a free society, the structure of educational systems, and other questions which are of concern not just to Slovenes, but to everyone who aspires to live in an open, democratic society.
Book Synopsis AfroSwedish Places of Belonging by : Nana Osei-Kofi
Download or read book AfroSwedish Places of Belonging written by Nana Osei-Kofi and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 2024-06-15 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a work of cultural studies rooted in critical feminist thought that grapples with AfroSwedishness in relation to processes and experiences of racialization, imagination of self, and notions of belonging, agency, and kinship. Nana Osei-Kofi focuses on the function of diverse forms of critical cultural expressions, paying particular attention to their liberatory public pedagogical potential. Drawing from biographical narratives, documentary film, digital Black feminism, and queer organizing, Osei-Kofi offers insights into the embodied, affective, and experiential processes through which the formation of an emergent AfroSwedish coalitional identity is made possible. Through self-reflexive, structural, and community-based forms of exploration that resist binary oppositions, AfroSwedish Places of Belonging asks what the nomenclature of AfroSwede, AfroSwedish, and AfroSwedishness brings into being, what it makes possible, and what this means for Swedish society from both a historical and a contemporary perspective. This work brings together two identity categories that have historically been constructed as not only mutually exclusive but oppositional to detail the emergence of AfroSwedishness as a counterhegemonic and coalitional act. AfroSwedishness, Osei-Kofi argues, must be understood as a coalitional identity, one made legible through kinship-based community.
