Pastors and students of the Bible who seek deep and detailed engagement with the text of the New Testament have long relied on R.C.H. Lenski's classic text now available again. Even though its historical-critical work has been surpassed, the strong narrative quality, accessibility, and "holy reverence for the Word of God" (Moody Monthly) of Lenski's work have allowed his commentary to continue as an excellent resource for serious study of the New Testament and sermon preparation.

Download or read book John Calvin's Commentaries On St. Paul's Epistles To Timothy, Titus And Philemon written by John Calvin and published by Jazzybee Verlag. This book was released on 2012 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the extended and annotated edition including * an extensive biographical annotation about the author and his life Calvin produced commentaries on most of the books of the Bible. His commentaries cover the larger part of the Old Testament, and all of the new excepting Second and Third John and the Apocalypse. His commentaries and lectures stand in the front rank of Biblical interpretation. The foundation of every code of rules for guiding the ministers of Christ must be sought, not in the judgments of uninspired men, however able and judicious, but in the Holy Scriptures, and chiefly in the Epistles to Timothy and Titus, the accurate interpretation of which is therefore unspeakably valuable. CALVIN has examined them with his usual skill, and will be heard with profound attention. His candor appears to more than ordinary advantage. Never does he press the words of the Holy Spirit beyond what appears to him to be their natural meaning, or depart from the rigid discharge of his task as an expositor for the sake of giving undue prominence to his peculiar views. On this point it may be sufficient to refer to his remarks on the authority which some ministers of the gospel appear to have exercised over others, as a specimen of his unshaken determination to adhere to the sacred records, and of his utter indifference to any use that might be made of such statements by those whose views of church-government differed from his own. Nowhere is his sterling honesty more conspicuous.

Book Synopsis Studies of Paul's Letters to Timothy, Titus, & Philemon by : Dennis Dinger
Download or read book Studies of Paul's Letters to Timothy, Titus, & Philemon written by Dennis Dinger and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These four letters from Paul were written to men whom he considered to be his sons in the faith. In 1 Timothy and Titus, Paul gave practical explanations of church order. In 2 Timothy, he taught believers how to relate to the truth of God. In Philemon, he set a wonderful example how believers should relate to one another as he appealed to Philemon on behalf of Onesimus. These letters are valuable, instructive, and applicable to all members of God's family. Paul is the perfect individual to give this instruction because of his calling as an apostle and his close relationship to the early Christian church. All who study these letters should find them extremely beneficial as they guide each of us towards Christian maturity!
