Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the era of globalization since the 1990s, international cooperation has become one of the most challenging topics of debate and research in higher education. This book attempts to provide scientific evidence on the debates and different types of internationalization found in higher education from a Mexican point of view. It identifies German and Mexican partnership collaborations in institutions of higher education as well as the experiences of German and Mexican university personnel involved in educational projects. The findings are based on qualitative research using documentary evidence, semi-structured expert interviews and qualitative content analysis. The study encompasses three levels. At the macro level, internationalization of higher education is discussed in a general way but with a focus on the Mexican situation, presenting a typology of prevailing types of internationalization. The meso level includes a secondary analysis of official data on the bilateral relations between German and Mexican institutions of higher education. The micro level presents a case study of two particular university collaborations using the experiences of those involved in both countries. Laura Patricia Cruz Ruiz (born 1972 in Chiapas, Mexico) studied in the field of education at the Business and Pedagogical Development University (UNIVDEP) in Mexico City, where she received her Master Degree (M.A.) in 2008. She has worked at the Mexican Secretariat of Health and Education as well as in the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACyT), from which, in 2010, she obtained a scholarship for her doctoral studies in Germany. She held a German-Mexican scholarship for international capacity building in Germany from 2005-2006. In 2015, she completed her doctoral degree (Dr. phil.) at the Faculty for Philosophy and Educational Research in the field of Comparative Education at Ruhr University Bochum in Germany.

This book was released on 2023-02-08 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By presenting case studies of internationalization in institutions of higher education around the world, this volume identifies unforeseen or unintended impacts within and across countries. With contributions from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, and North America the volume considers the nature and origin of positive and negative unintended consequences of internationalization policy and practice in national contexts, while also offering uniquely comparative insights. Chapters consider how internationalization is reflected in curricula, teaching, research, and mobility initiatives to highlight common pitfalls, as well as best practice for effective, sustainable, and equitable internationalization globally. Using a critical lens, the book explores how internationalization offers opportunities for learning, for entrepreneurial change, and for knowledge dissemination, and generates paradoxes and dilemmas in terms of political and ethical issues for individuals, communities, and the institutions themselves. Foregrounding the study of internalization in countries not typically studied, this book is a valuable resource for researchers and academics with an interest in internationalization, comparative and international education, and the sociology of education.

Book excerpt: The internationalization of higher education is a world-wide phenomenon, subject to multiple interpretations at national, institutional and individual levels. Still, much of the mainstream literature on this topic is concentrated on a small number of countries and a narrow range of key topics. To address this gap, The Future Agenda for Internationalization in Higher Education offers a broader set of perspectives from outside the dominant English-speaking and Western European paradigms, while simultaneously focusing on dimensions of internationalization that are known to be under-researched. Additionally, the editors give primacy to next generation perspectives, not only to amplify our current understanding of key issues around the world, but also to shine a light on possible future agendas for this important aspect of contemporary higher education. The notions of new modes, new topics, and new contexts frame the analysis, providing new pathways for exploring and understanding distinct aspects of this crucially important phenomenon in higher education around the world. Key topics covered include: the current state of research and analysis on the internationalization of higher education aspects of internationalization and international activities which have not previously been explored or have limited current exposure how research into internationalization is conducted, showcasing innovative methodological practices a synthesis of common themes and differences in relation to the future agenda of topics, modes and contexts for internationalization an identification of key areas for future research A thoughtful guide for considering the many possible directions ahead for internationalization in higher education, The Future Agenda for Internationalization in Higher Education is essential reading for academic researchers and graduate students, as well as international education practitioners and leaders keen to make sense of evolving trends in this field.

This book was released on 2022-08-22 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Center of Internationalization of Education Brazil-Australia, the result of a joint effort between PUCRS and the Australian Embassy in Brazil, aims to become a hub for the internationalization of education in Latin America. Since its establishment in July 2020, the Center has actively promoted the development of research on the internationalization of education, fostering cooperation activities between universities and providing an open network platform for researchers from Australia and Latin America to make connections and learn more about each other's work. It also seeks to foster cooperation agreements between Brazilian and Australian universities, development agencies, technology parks and researchers. In June 2021, the Center was officially recognized as an affiliate of the Australia-led global movement on Internationalization of Curriculum (ioc.global), with support from La Trobe University and Curtin University. As a result, a new network of Latin American researchers (from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay and Uruguay) was mobilized with the aim of developing and validating a regional framework for the process of internationalization of higher education institutions, from the curriculum to the approach of institutional policies. This book consolidates the work developed by the Center along with a group of Brazilian and Australian experts and professionals committed to the internationalization of education. Entitled "Internationalization of Higher Education - reflections and practices from Brazil and Australia", this work is part of a collection of books planned by the Center with the aim of gathering reflections, good practices and experiences of experts and professionals from Latin America, strengthening their profile with Australian and global partners.
