Download or read book Youth Ministry written by Malan Nel and published by AOSIS. This book was released on 2018-12-01 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims at contributing to the scientific and academic discourse as regards to the ‘what’ and ‘why’ of youth ministry. Too often, youth ministry has been approached from a mainly practical point of view, almost asking how we keep young people off the streets. Its methodology has often not included the theological and theoretical presuppositions that lie behind this ministry. Previous scientific reflection has been determined by a one-dimensional and almost exclusive point of view. In comparison with existing literature, this book does not focus so much on the ‘how’ of youth ministry. It innovates a different approach. The book challenges the existing exclusive approach and develops an inclusive, congregational and missional understanding of and approach to youth ministry. From a particular perspective on the understanding the main objectives of Practical Theology, the author endorses the so-called movement of ‘what is supposed to be going on’. He adds the outcome of an empirical round table discussion with some 16 leaders in this field on the descriptive and interpretive movements within the subject field: what is going on and why is it going on? The book will form the standard for any new research with regard to youth ministry. The book’s contribution lies on the level of sound theological reasoning and argumentation (supported by many scholars) for an inclusive congregational understanding of ministry as an integral part of every congregation being missional in being and doing. Youth, children, adolescents and emerging adults, are just as integral a part of every congregation within which they live and serve.

Book Synopsis Educational Perspectives on Mediality and Subjectivation by : Patrick Bettinger
Download or read book Educational Perspectives on Mediality and Subjectivation written by Patrick Bettinger and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-22 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book examines the complex relationship between education, media and power. Exploring the entanglement of education media and power structures, the contributions use various examples and case studies to demonstrate how subjectivation processes and digital structures interact with one another. The book asks which modes of subjectivation can be identified with current media cultures, how subjects deal with the challenges and potential of digitality, and how coping and empowerment strategies are developed. By addressing theoretical as well as empirical evidence, the chapters illuminate these connections and the subsequent significance for media education more widely.
Book Synopsis The Weimar Republic by : Detlev Peukert
Download or read book The Weimar Republic written by Detlev Peukert and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 1993-09 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About half of Kolb's compact book is devoted to a "Historical Survey," chronologically divided at the conventional watersheds of 1923-24 and 1929-30. A briefer second part, a historiographical essay in seven topical chapters, is followed by a seven-page chronology, a 676-item classified and topical bibliography, and an index. The bibliography, updated to February 1987, includes some English-language titles not in the original German edition, and is a list of tremendous value. Frequent references to individual entries (as well as to some works not found there) tie the bibliography to the historiographical essay, which is characterized by fair and judicious appraisal of interpretations of the period, even when Kolb clearly disagrees. There is a chapter on the revolution of 1918 and its aftermath in the first section, and one on art and mass culture in the second; each section of the survey also has one chapter focusing on foreign policy, and one on domestic developments.

Book Synopsis The Fin-de-siècle Culture of Adolescence by : John Neubauer
Download or read book The Fin-de-siècle Culture of Adolescence written by John Neubauer and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preoccupation with adolescence was one of the hallmarks of European culture at the turn of the century. In this absorbing book, John Neubauer examines the representation of adolescents in the literature, visual arts, psychology, and psychoanalytic theory of this period, and he considers the social institutions and youth movements that were formed to accommodate them. Neubauer argues that the depiction of adolescence in art and literature did not merely reflect its emergence as a middle-class phenomenon of industrial societies but helped to shape its social construction as well. Neubauer's discussion of adolescents in literature begins with the inner lives of some adolescent protagonists (Stephen Dedalus, Tonio Kroger and Young Torless) as told by adult narrators. His focus then becomes wider, moving to the adolescent as viewed by a peer-narrator, to the adolescent's cliques and gangs, and to the gardens, schools, and streets in which the narratives of adolescence are set. In the second half of the book he treats nonliterary subjects. Neubauer considers portrayals of adolescents by such artists as Munch, Kirchner, Heckel, Kokoschka, and Schiele. He discusses the narrative construction of Freud's case history of Dora and the problems of female adolescence in Horney's Adolescent Diaries, as well as questions of gender and homosexual identity in turn-of-the-century psychological theories of adolescence. The final chapters consider adolescence in school, church, the German Wandervogel, and the Boy Scouts, focusing on the literary and rhetorical means involved in institutionalizing adolescence.
Book Synopsis Protecting Motherhood by : Robert G. Moeller
Download or read book Protecting Motherhood written by Robert G. Moeller and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-11-10 with total page 662 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert G. Moeller is the first historian of modern German women to use social policy as a lens to focus on society's conceptions of gender difference and "woman's place." He investigates the social, economic, and political status of women in West Germany after World War II to reveal how the West Germans, emerging from the rubble of the Third Reich, viewed a reconsideration of gender relations as an essential part of social reconstruction. The debate over "woman's place" in the fifties was part of West Germany's confrontation with the ideological legacy of National Socialism. At the same time, the presence of the Cold War influenced all debates about women and the family. In response to the "woman question," West Germans defined the boundaries not only between women and men, but also between East and West. Moeller's study shows that public policy is a crucial arena where women's needs, capacities, and possibilities are discussed, identified, defined, and reinforced. Nowhere more explicitly than in the first decade of West Germany's history did, in Joan Scott's words, "politics construct gender and gender construct politics." This title is part of UC Press's Voices Revived program, which commemorates University of California Press's mission to seek out and cultivate the brightest minds and give them voice, reach, and impact. Drawing on a backlist dating to 1893, Voices Revived makes high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarship accessible once again using print-on-demand technology. This title was originally published in 1993.

Download or read book Rural Racism written by Neil Chakraborti and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rural issues are currently attracting unprecedented levels of interest, with the debates surrounding the future of 'traditional' rural customs and practice becoming a significant political concern. However, the problem of racism in rural areas has been largely overlooked by academics, practitioners and researchers who have sought almost exclusively to develop an understanding of racism in urban contexts. This book aims to address this oversight by examining notions of ethnic identity, 'otherness' and racist victimisation that have tended to be marginalised from traditional rural discourse.
