Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LES APPORTS ENERGETIQUES DES SUJETS AGES AUSSI BIEN HOSPITALISES QU'INSTITUTIONNALISES SONT TRES INFERIEURS AUX RECOMMANDATIONS. LA BAISSE IMPORTANTE DES PROTEINES MARQUEURS DE L'ETAT NUTRITIONNEL (ALBUMINE ET TRANSTHYRETINE) OBSERVEE CHEZ LES SUJETS AGES HOSPITALISES EST DUE A LEUR DENUTRITION PROTEINO-ENERGETIQUE MAIS EGALEMENT A LEUR ETAT INFECTIEUX ET/OU INFLAMMATOIRE. CERTAINES APOLIPOPROTEINES (APO AI, AII, B, CIII) POURRAIENT ETRE DES MARQUEURS SENSIBLES DE L'ETAT PROTEINO-ENERGETIQUE. NOUS PROPOSONS QUE CES APO SOIENT PRISES EN COMPTE DANS L'EVALUATION DE L'ETAT NUTRITIONNEL DE LA PERSONNE AGEE, D'AUTANT QUE LEURS LIAISONS AUX PROTEINES DE LA REACTION INFLAMMATOIRE PARAISSENT ATTRIBUABLES UNIQUEMENT A LEUR FORTE RELATION AVEC LES PROTEINES MARQUEURS DE L'ETAT NUTRITIONNEL. LES INGESTA ENERGETIQUES ET LES INGESTA EN ZINC SONT EN DESSOUS DES RECOMMANDATIONS CHEZ LES SUJETS TEMOINS ET SONT SIGNIFICATIVEMENT PLUS BAS CHEZ LES SUJETS MAIGRES. APRES UNE SUPPLEMENTATION JOURNALIERE DE 20 MG DE ZINC PENDANT DEUX MOIS, NOUS OBSERVONS DANS LES DEUX GROUPES (TEMOINS ET MAIGRES) UNE AUGMENTATION DE LA CONCENTRATION SERIQUE DE ZINC, DES PROTEINES MARQUEURS DE L'ETAT NUTRITIONNEL (ALBUMINE ET TRANSTHYRETINE), DU NIVEAU DES INGESTA AINSI QUE LA RESTAURATION DE L'ACTIVITE BIOLOGIQUE DE LA THYMULINE. DES RESULTATS SIMILAIRES SONT OBSERVES CHEZ LA SOURIS AGEES, CEPENDANT LES INGESTA ENERGETIQUES NE SONT PAS MODIFIES NI AU COURS DU VIEILLISSEMENT NI PAR UNE SUPPLEMENTATION EN ZINC

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A timely work describing how localized hospital-based health technology assessment (HB-HTA) complements general, ‘arms-length’ HTA agency efforts, and what has been the collective global impact of HB-HTA across the globe. While HB-HTA has gained significant momentum over the past few years, expertise in the field, and information on the operation and organization of HB-HTA, has been scattered. This book serves to bring this information together to inform those who are currently working in the field of HTA at the hospital, regional, national or global level. In addition, this book is intended for decision-makers and policy-makers with a stake in determining the uptake and decommissioning of new and established technologies in the hospital setting. HTA has traditionally been performed at the National/Regional level by HTA Agencies, typically linked to governments. Yet hospitals are the main entry door for most health technologies (HTs). Hospital decision-makers must undertake multiple high stakes investment and disinvestment decisions annually for innovative HTs, usually without adequate information. Despite the existence of arms-length HTA Agencies, inadequate information is available to hospital decision-makers either because relevant HTA reports are not yet released at the time of entry of new technologies to the field, or because even when the report exists, the information contained is insufficient to clarify the contextualized informational needs of hospital decision makers. Therefore, there has recently been a rising trend toward hospital-based HTA units and programs. These units/programs complement the work of National/Regional HTA Agencies by providing the key and relevant evidence needed by hospital decision makers in their specific hospital context, and within required decision-making timelines. The emergence of HB-HTA is creating a comprehensive HTA ecosystem across health care levels, which creates better bridges for knowledge translation through relevance and timeliness.

Book excerpt: In light of the recent emergence of Novel Psychoactive Substances (NPS) on a global scale, this book provides a timely analysis of the social and economic impact of the NPS phenomenon, and of the global policy and regulatory responses to it. It presents the first comprehensive overview of the international regulation, policy and market structure of the NPS phenomenon, offering a guide to inform legislative discussions and demonstrating from a comparative perspective the different approaches used to address the rise of NPS to date. It covers topics such as organized crime, drug markets, clinical evidence on NPS, and different regulatory approaches also in less explored settings such as prisons and sport environments. Overall, this highly informative and well-structured repository of different experiences with NPS policy, law and regulation offers an essential primary source of evidence for anyone interested in the area of drug and NPS policy, health economics and p ublic health.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, contributors employ sociological and public health perspectives to offer insights into behaviours common at raves and nightclubs. The volume provides theoretical observations on illicit club drug use and supply, helping to challenge current orthodoxies on the role of drug use within young peoples' lives. Drawing material from the USA, UK and Hong Kong, the volume allows the demystification of stereotypical presentations surrounding young people who attend clubs and/or use club drugs. This work provides a badly needed and objective analysis of youthful drug use, and a foundation from which future sociological and public studies on young people, clubs and drugs – as well as young people themselves – will benefit.
