Download or read book Interactive Multimedia Documents written by Michalis Vazirgiannis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-31 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multimedia information systems is a rapidly growing area of research and development, attracting increasing interest from a variety of application fields including business, entertainment, manufacturing, education, CAD, CAE, medicine, etc. Due to the diverse nature of the information dealt with and the increased functionality (e.g., user interaction), the capabilities and system requirements of multimedia information systems dramatically exceed those of conventional databases and database management systems. This book presents an integrated approach to interactive multimedia documents. After summarizing the prerequisites and background information, the author develops an IMD model taking into account interaction and spatiotemporal composition. Based on this model, the author develops an integrated framework covering most of the steps during the life cycle of an IMD, namely data modeling, authoring, verification and querying, execution and rendering, and indexing.

Book Synopsis Modeling Timed User-interactions in Multimedia Documents by : Thomas J. Watson IBM Research Center
Download or read book Modeling Timed User-interactions in Multimedia Documents written by Thomas J. Watson IBM Research Center and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Interactive multimedia documents (or systems) can be characterized by active user participation and the diversity of multimedia information accessed at various levels of granularity. They need to support extensive user participation in selecting and tailoring the information and its presentation. Multimedia information fragments may vary from portions of video, pieces of audio, newspaper quotations, or chapters of a book. Effectively managing the creation, evolution, and complexity of multimedia documents formed by combining media fragments is an essential capability. We consider the hyperstory model of a multimedia document, where a document is structured hierarchically in three dimensions: time, space, and asynchrony. The model provides a layered approach in structuring multimedia documents, thus reducing the complexities of large systems. They hyperstory model supports user interactions that are timed, and also supports preemptive resuming. Timed user interactions with the document are modeled with a newly introduced timed Petri-net, TPN*. The TPN* is used to infer the behavior of the system. This paper describes the TPN* and its analysis techniques."

Book Synopsis Multimedia Tools and Applications by : Borko Furht
Download or read book Multimedia Tools and Applications written by Borko Furht and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-09-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multimedia computing has emerged in the last few years as a major area of research. Multimedia computer systems have opened a wide range of applications by combining a variety of information sources, such as voice, graphics, animation, images, audio, and full-motion video. Looking at the big picture, multimedia can be viewed as the merging of three industries: the computer, communications, and broadcasting industries. Research and development efforts in multimedia computing can be divided into two areas. As the first area of research, much effort has been centered on the stand-alone multimedia workstation and associated software systems and tools, such as music composition, computer-aided education and training, and interactive video. However, the combination of multimedia computing with distributed systems offers even greater potential. New applications based on distributed multimedia systems include multimedia information systems, collaborative and videoconferencing systems, on-demand multimedia services, and distance learning. Multimedia Tools and Applications is one of two volumes published by Kluwer, both of which provide a broad introduction to this fast moving area. This book covers selected tools applied in multimedia systems and key multimedia applications. Topics presented include multimedia application development techniques, techniques for content-based manipulation of image databases, techniques for selection and dissemination of digital video, and tools for digital video segmentation. Selected key applications described in the book include multimedia news services, multimedia courseware and training, interactive television systems, digital video libraries, multimedia messaging systems, and interactive multimedia publishing systems. The second book, Multimedia Systems and Techniques, covers fundamental concepts and techniques used in multimedia systems. The topics include multimedia objects and related models, multimedia compression techniques and standards, multimedia interfaces, multimedia storage techniques, multimedia communication and networking, multimedia synchronization techniques, multimedia information systems, scheduling in multimedia systems, and video indexing and retrieval techniques. Multimedia Tools and Applications, along with its companion volume, is intended for anyone involved in multimedia system design and applications and can be used as a textbook for advanced courses on multimedia.

Download or read book Interactive Media written by Roy Rada and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written for students and practitioners of engineering and social sciences, including computer, information, communication, library, business, management, and cognitive science. The topic is the relationship between people and interactive media. The book describes individuals, groups, and organizations. An understanding of people is critical to an understanding of the technology which can help people. This book was written with the help of a special computer system for authoring called the Many Using and Creating Hypertext (MUCH) system. Students and researchers from the University of Liverpool contributed to the book through the MUCH system. Classes at the University of Liverpool, both undergraduate classes and master's degree classes, have used various drafts of this book as required reading. The book has been available to the students online via the MUCH system, and the students have provided helpful feedback for the contents of the book. The author is particularly grateful for the contributions of Antonios Michailidis and Alex Birchall. Antonios's influence is most prominent in the chapters on groups, and Alex's, in the latter chapters on organizations. Claude Ghaoui coordinated the book authoring and production team, and Anthony Deakin provided finishing touches.
