Deliman and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The integration of the watershed water quality model Hydrologic Simulation Program-FORTRAN (HSPF) into the Watershed Modeling System (WMS) was initiated as part of an overall goal of the Water Quality Research Program to provide water quality capabilities within the framework of a comprehensive graphical modeling environment for conducting hydrologic and water quality analysis. The WMS interface creates a way for the user to input a multitude of parameters into the input file and then to run HSPF to get the required output. The input parameters are linked to all the tools within WMS, including automated basin delineation and parameter definition using a graphical user interface. The objective of the interface developed in WMS is to provide graphical representation of HSPF data, as well as automate the definition of many of the required parameters. Many of the basic variables required for HSPF input are computed as part of WMS's basic functionality; additionally, specialty functions have been added to WMS to enable the usage of HSPF directly with data output from WMS. This report describes the initial linkage of HSPF into the WMS.

Book Synopsis Simulation Modeling for Watershed Management by : James Westervelt
Download or read book Simulation Modeling for Watershed Management written by James Westervelt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A discussion of the role of modeling in the management process, with an overview of state-of-the-art modeling applications. The first chapters provide a background on the benefits and costs of modeling and on the ecological basis of models, using historical applications as examples, while the second section describes the latest models from a wide selection of environmental disciplines. Since management frequently requires the integration of knowledge from many different areas, both single discipline and multidiscipline models are discussed in detail, and the author emphasizes the importance of understanding the issues and alternatives in choosing, applying, and evaluating models. Land and watershed managers as well as students of forestry, park management, regional planing and agriculture will find this a thorough and practical introduction to all aspects of modeling.

Book Synopsis A Generalized Simulation Model for Reservoir System Analysis by : Richard J. Hayes
Download or read book A Generalized Simulation Model for Reservoir System Analysis written by Richard J. Hayes and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper overviews the general features of computer program 'HEC-5, Simulation of Flood Control and Conservation Systems', with emphasis on the capabilities of the most recent release of HEC-5, Version 7.2, dated March 1991. HEC-5 can simulate the essential features and operation goals and constraints of simple or complex systems with simulation intervals ranging from minutes to one month. Single event flood analysis and period of record conservation analysis may be accomplished with the model. Flood control analysis includes balanced system operation for downstream damage centers with consideration of forecasted local flows and hydrologic routing. In addition, induced surcharge operation based on spillway gate regulation schedules can be simulated. Hydropower analysis may include run-of-river, peaking, and pumped storage plants as well as system power operation. Water supply simulation can include reservoir and downstream flow requirements in addition to divers ions and return flows. Water Quality analysis can include simulation of temperature, dissolved oxygen, up to three conservative and up to three nonconservative constituents. Computer Programs, Simulation, Reservoirs, Flood Control, Reservoir Yield, Hydroelectric Power, Water Supply, Water Quality.

Book Synopsis Modeling Water Resources Management at the Basin Level by : Daene C. McKinney
Download or read book Modeling Water Resources Management at the Basin Level written by Daene C. McKinney and published by IWMI. This book was released on 1999 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is facing severe and growing challenges in maintainig water quality and meeting the rapidly growing demand for water resources. In addition, water used for irrigation, the largest use of water in most developing countries, will likely have to be diverted increasingly to meet the needs of urban areas and industry whilst remaining a prime engine of agricultural growth. Finally, environmental and other in-stream water demands become more important as economies develop. The river basin has been acknowledged to be the appropriate unit of analysis to address these chanllenges facing water resources management: and modeling at this scale can provide essential information for policy makers in their decisions on allication of resources. This paper reviews the state of the art of modeling approaches to integrated water resources management at the river basin scale, with particular focus on the potential of coupled economic hydrologic models, and concludes with directions for future modeling exercises.
