Book Synopsis A Time for Mission by : Samuel Escobar
Download or read book A Time for Mission written by Samuel Escobar and published by Langham Global Library. This book was released on 2013-07-14 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christian mission in the twenty-first century has become the responsibility of a global church. The heart of 'mission' is the drive to cross geographical, cultural and social barriers in order to share the good news of Jesus Christ with all peoples. Drawing on his involvement in missionary work over many years, Samuel Escobar explores how the church spreads the Christian faith. God's Word forms the foundation for his reflections, while he uses insights from theological and historical studies as well as from the social sciences to gain a clearer understanding of the church's missionary calling. His stimulating and challenging analysis contributes significantly to a global evangelical dialogue on mission today and in the future.
Book Synopsis U.S. Foreign Policy and Peru by : Daniel A. Sharp
Download or read book U.S. Foreign Policy and Peru written by Daniel A. Sharp and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2014-06-23 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the first authoritative and comprehensive account of the development of the Peruvian revolution of 1968. The study resulted from a team experiment in applied political science, economics, and sociology that maintained effective communications between Peru and the United States at many levels during the difficult years following the revolution. Each chapter is the result of continuous interaction between a leading authority and the major sectors of both societies. History is here presented in its diplomatic, social, economic, and cultural context. The Peruvian and U.S. governments helped to define the subjects of greatest interest to their respective countries, and a systematic effort was made to find the leading authorities on each issue. Since one purpose of this volume is to affect policy by identifying new alternative policies, the papers included here were prepared specifically to be of value to policy makers. This book was produced by a citizens’ constituency on U.S. foreign policy under the auspices of the Adlai Stevenson Institute of International Affairs, the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, and the Johnson Foundation.

Book Synopsis Bible translation and the spread of the church by : Philip C. Stine
Download or read book Bible translation and the spread of the church written by Philip C. Stine and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-04-26 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growth of the Church in the last two centuries has been paralleled by an explosion in the number of languages into which all or part of the Bible has been translated. This book is perhaps the first serious effort to examine a number of issues related to that phenomenon, among them how theology can affect the kind of translation prepared, and how the type of translation itself can affect the theology of a church. It also addresses the topics of why a church generally develops faster and with a deeper faith if it has the Bible; how decisions of text, canon, exegesis, type of language and type of translation are related to the matter of authority; what forces are at play in a culture to which a translator must be sensitive; and how Bible translation affects a society and culture. The authors of these papers are distinguished scholars in the fields of missiology, history, cultural anthropology, theology or church history. Some address theological issues of Bible translation, and others the cultural and political questions. But ultimately they conclude that if the church of tomorrow is to grow, and not be fragmented, then access to the Bible will be crucial.
