Dazu wurden im Zusammenhang mit Integrationskursen und mit Bezug auf die drei Schwerpunkte: „Spracherwerb und sprachliche Integration“, „Akkulturation und soziokulturelle Integration“ und „Selbstkonzept und persönliche Einstellungen und Befindlichkeiten“ folgende Forschungsfragen aufgestellt: Wie vollzieht sich der Erwerb der deutschen Sprache bei den Befragten? Wie nehmen sie den Spracherwerb wahr? Und welchen Einfluss hat der Integrationskurs auf ihre sprachliche Integration? Welchen Einfluss hat der Integrationskurs auf die Beteiligten im Integrationsprozess? Welche Rolle spielen die persönlichen Einstellungen der Betroffenen (Motivation, Integrationsbereitschaft bzw. Integrationsverweigerung, Rück- und Zukunftsorientierung usw.) beim Spracherwerb und bei der sprachlichen sowie sozialen Integration der Betroffenen? Welchen Einfluss haben der Integrationskurs und der Spracherwerb auf das psychosoziale Wohlbefinden und die Alltagsbewältigung der Betroffenen? Und welche Wechselwirkungen haben die erwähnten (Bedingungs-)Faktoren aufeinander? Das Endergebnis der Studie lautet: Integrationskurse in diesem Umfang und dieser Qualität sind für eine gelingende Integration nicht ausreichend. Angelehnt an die Ergebnisse wird für eine schnellere und leichtere Integration der Migranten eine neue Integrationspolitik gefordert, um dadurch die berufliche Eingliederung als entscheidenden Faktor neben dem und während des Spracherwerbs in den Integrationskursen zu ermöglichen. Es sollten mehr praktische Chancen, Gelegenheiten und Möglichkeiten für die Integration der Migranten im Sinne der Inklusion geschaffen werden.

Anschließend wird der Frage nachgegangen, ob Kursteilnehmende, die den Integrationskurs vorzeitig beendet haben, im Analysezeitraum erneut an einem Integrationskurs teilnehmen und somit ihren Deutschspracherwerb fortsetzen. Auch erfolgt eine erste Annäherung an die Gründe, welche potenziell zu einer Kursunterbrechung geführt haben könnten

While researching and editing the catalog for Andres recent retrospective at Dia Art Foundation, Sigler gleaned surprising new readings from a series of lost negatives that resurfaced at Dia. Shot by Andres close friend and collaborator Hollis Frampton in the 1960s, the photos depict small, carved wooden artworksmany lost or destroyed shortly after being photographed. Sigler draws connections between these early inchoate artworks and Andres later scatters, spills and floor pieces, all of which are analyzed through a compellingly personal lens. Writing on Andres poetry and his confounding book-length masterpiece, Stillanovel, Sigler further proposes that Andres greatest contribution may be to literature. Is it possible that one of the modern eras greatest experimental love poets is hiding in plain sight, disguised as a unionized blue-chip art worker? Sigler taught at Yale University School of Arts, edited the Swiss art journal Parkett, and has published numerous books of poetry.

Book excerpt: In contrast to most migration studies that focus on specific “foreigner” groups in Germany, this study simultaneously compares and contrasts the legal, political, social, and economic opportunity structures facing diverse categories of the ethnic minorities who have settled in the country since the 1950s. It reveals the contradictory, and usually self-defeating, nature of German policies intended to keep “migrants” out—allegedly in order to preserve a German Leitkultur (with which very few of its own citizens still identify). The main barriers to effective integration—and socioeconomic revitalization in general—sooner lie in the country’s obsolete labor market regulations and bureaucratic procedures. Drawing on local case studies, personal interviews, and national surveys, the author describes “the human faces” behind official citizenship and integration practices in Germany, and in doing so demonstrates that average citizens are much more multi-cultural than they realize.
