Book Synopsis Resolution of Curve and Surface Singularities in Characteristic Zero by : K. Kiyek

This book was released on 2012-09-11 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Curves The Point of View of Max Noether Probably the oldest references to the problem of resolution of singularities are found in Max Noether's works on plane curves [cf. [148], [149]]. And probably the origin of the problem was to have a formula to compute the genus of a plane curve. The genus is the most useful birational invariant of a curve in classical projective geometry. It was long known that, for a plane curve of degree n having l m ordinary singular points with respective multiplicities ri, i E {1, . . . , m}, the genus p of the curve is given by the formula = (n - l)(n - 2) _ ~ "r. (r. _ 1) P 2 2 L. . ,. •• . Of course, the problem now arises: how to compute the genus of a plane curve having some non-ordinary singularities. This leads to the natural question: can we birationally transform any (singular) plane curve into another one having only ordinary singularities? The answer is positive. Let us give a flavor (without proofs) 2 on how Noether did it • To solve the problem, it is enough to consider a special kind of Cremona trans formations, namely quadratic transformations of the projective plane. Let ~ be a linear system of conics with three non-collinear base points r = {Ao, AI, A }, 2 and take a projective frame of the type {Ao, AI, A ; U}.

Book excerpt: Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations, Second Edition contains a comprehensive coverage of the study of advanced calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations for sophomore college students. The text includes a large number of examples, exercises, cases, and applications for students to learn calculus well. Also included is the history and development of calculus. The book is divided into five parts. The first part includes multivariable calculus material. The second part is an introduction to linear algebra. The third part of the book combines techniques from calculus and linear algebra and contains discussions of some of the most elegant results in calculus including Taylor's theorem in "n" variables, the multivariable mean value theorem, and the implicit function theorem. The fourth section contains detailed discussions of first-order and linear second-order equations. Also included are optional discussions of electric circuits and vibratory motion. The final section discusses Taylor's theorem, sequences, and series. The book is intended for sophomore college students of advanced calculus.

Download or read book Matrix Algebra for Applied Economics written by Shayle R. Searle and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 2001-09-13 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coverage of matrix algebra for economists and students ofeconomics Matrix Algebra for Applied Economics explains the important tool ofmatrix algebra for students of economics and practicing economists. It includes examples that demonstrate the foundation operations ofmatrix algebra and illustrations of using the algebra for a varietyof economic problems. The authors present the scope and basic definitions of matrices, their arithmetic and simple operations, and describe specialmatrices and their properties, including the analog of division. They provide in-depth coverage of necessary theory and deal withconcepts and operations for using matrices in real-life situations. They discuss linear dependence and independence, as well as rank, canonical forms, generalized inverses, eigenroots, and vectors.Topics of prime interest to economists are shown to be simplifiedusing matrix algebra in linear equations, regression, linearmodels, linear programming, and Markov chains. Highlights include: * Numerous examples of real-world applications * Challenging exercises throughout the book * Mathematics understandable to readers of all backgrounds * Extensive up-to-date reference material Matrix Algebra for Applied Economics provides excellent guidancefor advanced undergraduate students and also graduate students.Practicing economists who want to sharpen their skills will findthis book both practical and easy-to-read, no matter what theirapplied interests.

Book Synopsis Algebra 1 Workbook for Dummies by : Richard S Hammond
Download or read book Algebra 1 Workbook for Dummies written by Richard S Hammond and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-04-06 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After becoming a math teacher and math author, I notice that most students lack the basic skills in Math. This reason leads students to face many difficulties in learning Math not only in high school but also university. To help students in mastering their basic Math skills, we have worked through a workbook series called Algebra 1 Workbook for Dummies Series. This book series is designed to help students master their basics skill in Algebra 1. Algebra 1 Workbook for Dummies: Quadratic Equations serves as a concise guide in quadratic equations. This book is written in detail about quadratic equations. We begin the first chapter of this book with the definition of quadratic equations. In this part, we want to make sure that the readers comprehend well about the definition before going deep into how to solve quadratic equations. In the second chapter of this book, we listed many possible ways on how to solve a quadratic equation such as Factoring Method Completing Square Method Using Discriminant to Solve a Quadratic Equation Solve a Quadratic Equation in Case a+b+c=0 or a+c=b Moreover, to dive into the higher level of Math, we also include the most famous theorem that is related to the sum and the product of the roots of equations. This theorem is known as Vieta's theorem. We decide to include this part in the third chapter of this book to help readers get more interests in quadratic equations. The last chapter of this book is about the application of quadratic equations like how to solve a system of equations or a biquadratic equation by using a quadratic equation. We hope this book serves as the best resource in learning Algebra 1, especially, quadratic equations. Richard S.Hammond

Download or read book Statistics written by Donald H. Sanders and published by McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math. This book was released on 2000 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main difference between this text and many others is that an attempt is made here to present material in a rather relaxed and informal way without omitting important concepts. The text demonstrates the wide range of relevant issues and questions that can be addressed with the help of statistical analysis techniques by presenting over 1,750 realistic problems that arise often in health care, the social and physical sciences, education, business and economics, engineering, and leisure activities. It also convinces your students that statistics is "do-able" by including real data that students have collected and analyzed for class assignments and projects. Additionally, the text utilizes an intuitive, common sense approach (including occasional humorous situation or ridiculous name) to develop concepts whenever possible. "Statistics: A First Course" employs widely available, inexpensive technologies--particularly Minitab and the TI-83 graphing calculator. We also explore the use of the World Wide Web to collect data, providing students with the means to obtain up-to-date information without leaving their desks. In short this book is written to communicate with students rather than to lecture to them, and its intent is to convince readers that the study of statistics can be a lively, interesting, and rewarding experience!
