Book Synopsis Some Characteristics of Turbulent Boundary Layers in Rapidly Accelerated Flows by : Paul F. Brinich
Download or read book Some Characteristics of Turbulent Boundary Layers in Rapidly Accelerated Flows written by Paul F. Brinich and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of time-mean-turbulent boundary layer velocity profiles measured in a rapidly accelerating flow suggests that the outer region of the velocity profiles consists of essentially inviscid, rotational flow. The extent of this inviscid outer region was observed in some cases to exceed 90 percent of what is ordinarily thought of as the turbulent boundary layer thickness. On the other hand, the inner frictional region of these velocity profiles appears to have turbulent characteristics similar to those of more conventional turbulent boundary layers. Hence, the outer edge boundary condition for this inner region is more properly the external rotational flow region than the free stream.

Book Synopsis Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers by : Tuncer Cebeci
Download or read book Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers focuses on turbulent flows meeting the requirements for the boundary-layer or thin-shear-layer approximations. Its approach is devising relatively fundamental, and often subtle, empirical engineering correlations, which are then introduced into various forms of describing equations for final solution. After introducing the topic on turbulence, the book examines the conservation equations for compressible turbulent flows, boundary-layer equations, and general behavior of turbulent boundary layers. The latter chapters describe the CS method for calculating two-dimensional and axisymmetric laminar and turbulent boundary layers. This book will be useful to readers who have advanced knowledge in fluid mechanics, especially to engineers who study the important problems of design.

Book Synopsis Characteristics of Turbulence in a Boundary Layer with Zero Pressure Gradient by : P. S. Klebanoff
Download or read book Characteristics of Turbulence in a Boundary Layer with Zero Pressure Gradient written by P. S. Klebanoff and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of an experimental investigation of a turbulent boundary layer with zero pressure gradient are presented. Measurements with the hot-wire anemometer were made of turbulent energy and turbulent shear stress, probability density and flattening factor of u-fluctuation (fluctuation in x-direction), spectra of turbulent energy and shear stress, and turbulent dissipation. The importance of the region near the wall and the inadequacy of the concept of local isotropy are demonstrated. Attention is given to the energy balance and the intermittent character of the outer region of the boundary layer. Also several interesting features of the spectral distribution of the turbulent motions are discussed.
Book Synopsis Study of Unsteady Turbulent Boundary Layers by : Angel Nicolas Menendez
Download or read book Study of Unsteady Turbulent Boundary Layers written by Angel Nicolas Menendez and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A turbulent boundary layer, subjected to a free-stream velocity which changes sinusiodally in time under a zero time mean pressure gradient, is studied both experimentally and analytically. Using a two-component Laser Doppler Anemometer and a Heat Flux Gage, detailed and high quality information is obtained on the instantaneous velocity distribution and wall shear stress, respectively, at various stations. An asymptotic theory, for large Reynolds numbers, is developed for the oscillatory motion. It is valid for both boundary layers at arbitrary time-mean pressure gradients and fully developed pipe and channel flow, and is successfully applied to the present and previous available experimental information. The theory identifies two frequency parameters, in terms of which four different frequency regimes are defined. Similarity laws are identified for each one of these frequency regimes. All the experimental data have been archived on magnetic tape. (Author).

Book Synopsis Turbulent Boundary Layer Characteristics at High Reynolds Number by : Victor Zakkay
Download or read book Turbulent Boundary Layer Characteristics at High Reynolds Number written by Victor Zakkay and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pressure gradient effect on the characteristics of a compressible turbulent boundary layer in separation and reattachment regions of laminar and turbulent flows have been investigated. Experiments were conducted at a large variation of Mach numbers and free stream Reynolds numbers. Favorable pressure gradient was found to have significant effect on the correlation of the total temperature and velocity profiles in turbulent boundary layer. Correlations for the separation distance, peak heating values, and peak surface pressure were found. Methods are described to predict the location and peak heating values in a separated flow region.
