Book excerpt: is this me this voice these words that lead somewhere to a place where everything makes sense where peace exists where we find god in the world all around us and that question of what does it all mean loses significance when we let go and just live when we rise and retreat with the moon and the tide and we fly unfettered leave grief behind I’m there now my friends with just enough of me still tethered to the earth to share these thoughts

Book excerpt: Is Anyone Safe In This New World of Consumerism? The group, including the cop, Talaski, and the firefighter, Mills, is stranded on the old fishing pier that once was the Skyway Bridge. To the northeast, Bronte’s followers fight to the death for Tanglewood Island. Further inland the soldier, Jacobs, befriends a group of kids and finds them a haven at a small walled house they aptly dub the Alamo. Meanwhile, President Foster’s wife, Julie, convinces a group of soldiers to take her back to her husband. Find out, too, what trouble Dead-Eye Johnny jumped into when he leapt off the Skyway and fell onto a cruise ship! Others like Trish and Natalie face terrible odds on their own. Behind all of it is a shadowy corporation, a runaway scientist and a cut-throat mobster, all determined to secure what is best for themselves! Humanity is in its death throes and still the survivors of the apocalypse struggle with and embrace friendship, love, lust, envy, hate, rage and cruelty beyond measure. The grueling task of finding a safe haven and securing supplies is far more difficult than it should be simply due to human nature. For the privileged, protected elite, that task has been a burden shouldered by others as they wait in bunkers, or take the sun on the decks of yachts. The average survivor does what he or she has to, or what they can live with to survive. Until now. Witness the best and the worst that humanity has to offer as the dead tide surges, and what is left of civilization sinks into a morass of madness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book recovers a sense of the high stakes of Shakespearean comedy, arguing that the comedies, no less than the tragedies, serve to dramatize responses to the condition of being human, responses that invite scholarly investigation and explanation. Taking its cue from Stanley Cavell’s influential readings of Othello and Lear, the book argues that exposure or vulnerability to others is the source of both human happiness and human misery; while the tragedies showcase attempts at the evasion of such vulnerability through the self-defeating pursuit of epistemological certainty, the comedies present the drama and the difficulty of turning away from an epistemological register in order to productively respond to the fact of our humanity. Where Shakespeare’s tragedies might be viewed in Cavellian terms as the drama of skepticism, Shakespeare’s comedies then exemplify the drama of acknowledgement. As a parallel and a preamble, Gottlieb suggests that the field of literary studies is itself a site of such revealing responses: where competing research methods strive to foreclose upon (or, alternatively, rejoice in) epistemological uncertainty, such commitments bespeak an urge to avoid or circumvent the human in the practice of scholarship. Reading Shakespeare’s comedies in tandem with a "defactoist" view of teaching and learning points in the direction of a new humanism, one that eschews both the relativism of old deconstruction and contemporary Presentism and the determinism of various kinds of structural accounts. This book offers something new in scholarly and popular understanding of Shakespeare’s work, doing so with both philosophical rigor and literary attention to the difficult work of reading.

In Beyond Being Good, Katrina McCain explores the depths of a fullness in Christ, by depending on His goodness and not our own. By chronicling her own personal stories of victory and defeat, she offers her readers a vibrant and transparent challenge to live above social acceptance and personal perfection by delving into a deeper understanding of God’s goodness through a total experience of His perfect love. Beyond Being Good is an encouragement for every woman that her ability to be good has nothing to do with experiencing God's perfect love or walking in her calling and mission.

This book was released on 1997 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study on Shakespearean theatre attempts to correlate the cognitive impulse animating the character with the ensuing dramatic form. A Shakespearean character determines the play's structure through the intrinsic need to resolve the problem he is brought up against. He does this by utilizing theatrical means, metadramatic elements, which themselves become an integral part of the concept of theatre. Any external moral framework constricting the character within traditional dramatic forms appears, therefore, to impose perspectival limits on the text. Rather, The Tempest provides the reader with intrinsic and general guidelines through the skepticism of Prospero. Through concepts of «wonder» and «limitation» he defines the boundaries of action thus determining the idea of self-knowledge. General aesthetic and philosophical problems are embedded within the texture of the play's structure.

Book excerpt: The revered author's classic work that examines the four types of human love: affection, friendship, erotic love, and the love of God.? In this work Lewis examines four varieties of love, as approached from the Greek language: storge, the most basic form; philia, the rarest and perhaps most insightful; eros, passionate love; and agape, the love of God, the greatest and least selfish. ?Throughout this compassionate and reasoned study, he encourages readers to open themselves to all forms of love—the key to understanding that brings us closer to God.? "There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable . . . draw nearer to God, not be trying to avoid the sufferings inherent in all loves, but by accepting them and offering them to Him; throwing away all defensive armor. If our hearts need to be broken, and if He chooses this as the way in which they should break, so be it."? In Four Loves, C. S. Lewis explores love to help you · Strengthen your interpersonal relationships · Understand the different between needed pleasures and appreciation pleasures and need-love and gift-love · Care for the people in your life, avoid pitfalls, and improve your relationship God The Four Loves holds a mirror to our current society and leaves no doubt that our modern understanding of love is heavily misunderstood.
