HECQUET and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CE MEMOIRE CONCERNE L'ETUDE DE L'EMISSION ELECTRONIQUE SECONDAIRE (INCLUANT L'EMISSION AUGER) OBSERVEE LORS DE L'IRRADIATION DE CIBLES DE SI(111) PAR DES IONS DE GAZ RARES DE MOYENNE ENERGIE (5-80 KEV). SUR LE PLAN EXPERIMENTAL, L'EXPLOITATION DES DISTRIBUTIONS D'ENERGIE DES ELECTRONS SECONDAIRES CONDUIT A L'OBTENTION DES COEFFICIENTS D'EMISSION ELECTRONIQUE (NOMBRE D'ELECTRONS PAR ION INCIDENT) ET DES VALEURS ABSOLUES DES RENDEMENTS AUGER. LA VARIATION DE CES GRANDEURS EN FONCTION DE LA TEMPERATURE DE LA CIBLE PERMET DE DETERMINER LES TEMPERATURES DE TRANSITION DE PHASE CRISTAL-AMORPHE SOUS IRRADIATION. L'INFLUENCE DE L'ENERGIE, DE LA NATURE ET DE L'ANGLE D'INCIDENCE DU FAISCEAU SONT ETUDIEES. UN MODELE DE SIMULATION NUMERIQUE DE L'EMISSION AUGER A ETE ELABORE. IL EST BASE SUR LE DEVELOPPEMENT DES CASCADES DE COLLISIONS ATOMIQUES DANS LES SOLIDES (CODE MARLOWE). LA 1ERE PARTIE DE CE TRAVAIL FAIT LE POINR SUR LES CONNAISSANCES THEORIQUES ACTUELLES CONCERNANT L'INTERACTION D'IONS LOURDS ENERGETIQUES AVEC LA MATIERE CONDENSEE. L'ACCENT EST MIS PARTICULIEREMENT SUR LES PROBLEMES D'AMORPHISATION DE CIBLES SEMICONDUCTRICES. L'ENSEMBLE EXPERIMENTAL, DECRIT DANS LA 2EME PARTIE, SE COMPOSE D'UN ACCELERATEUR DE PARTICULES ET D'UNE ENCEINTE DE MESURE A ULTRAVIDE. UN SYSTEME D'ANALYSE A POTENTIEL RETARDATEUR AVEC DERIVATION ELECTRONIQUE ET DETECTION SYNCHRONE DONNE LA DISTRIBUTION D'ENERGIE DES ELECTRONS SECONDAIRES EMIS AVEC UNE ENERGIE COMPRISE ENTRE 0 ET QUELQUES CENTAINES EV. DANS UNE DERNIERE PARTIE, LES RESULTATS EXPERIMENTAUX SONT PRESENTES ET DISCUTES EN COMPARAISON AVEC LES DONNEES DU MODELE DE SIMULATION NUMERIQUE

Book excerpt: LE BUT DE CE MEMOIRE EST D'ETUDIER LES PHENOMENES DE TRANSITION CRISTAL-AMORPHE INDUITS PAR IMPLANTATION D'IONS LEGERS DANS LE SILICIUM. DANS UNE PREMIERE PARTIE, NOUS NOUS INTERESSONS AUX PERTES D'ENERGIE SUBIES PAR LA PARTICULE INCIDENTE (INTERACTIONS ION-MATIERE) AINSI QU'AUX MECANISMES QUI PEUVENT CONDUIRE A LA TRANSITION CRISTAL-AMORPHE. LES MODELES PERMETTANT DE DECRIRE QUANTITATIVEMENT LA FORMATION ET L'EXTENSION DE COUCHES AMORPHES SONT AUSSI PASSES EN REVUE. DANS LA PARTIE EXPERIMENTALE, NOUS AVONS MIS EN EVIDENCE L'APPORT DE LA MICROSCOPIE ELECTRONIQUE EN TRANSMISSION A LA CARACTERISATION DE L'AMORPHISATION DU SI PAR IMPLANTATION D'IONS PHOSPHORE, AZOTE ET HELIUM DANS DES CONDITIONS EXPERIMENTALES DIVERSES (ENERGIE ET FLUX DU FAISCEAU D'IONS ET TEMPERATURE DU SUBSTRAT). L'UTILISATION DU MODELE DE LA DENSITE D'ENERGIE CRITIQUE NOUS A PERMIS DE CALCULER L'ETAT D'ENDOMMAGEMENT DU SUBSTRAT ET DE DETERMINER L'ENERGIE DE DOMMAGE CRITIQUE NECESSAIRE A LA FORMATION DE LA PHASE AMORPHE. NOUS AVONS MIS EN EVIDENCE QUE L'ENERGIE DE DOMMAGE EST UNE CARACTERISTIQUE DU SUBSTRAT A BASSE TEMPERATURE (

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book intends to give a state-of-the-art overview of flexoelectricity, a linear physical coupling between mechanical (orientational) deformations and electric polarization, which is specific to systems with orientational order, such as liquid crystals. Chapters written by experts in the field shed light on theoretical as well as experimental aspects of research carried out since the discovery of flexoelectricity. Besides a common macroscopic (continuum) description the microscopic theory of flexoelectricity is also addressed. Electro-optic effects due to or modified by flexoelectricity as well as various (direct and indirect) measurement methods are discussed. Special emphasis is given to the role of flexoelectricity in pattern-forming instabilities. While the main focus of the book lies in flexoelectricity in nematic liquid crystals, peculiarities of other mesophases (bent-core systems, cholesterics, and smectics) are also reviewed. Flexoelectricity has relevance to biological (living) systems and can also offer possibilities for technical applications. The basics of these two interdisciplinary fields are also summarized.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The adoption of the Kyoto Protocol in December 1997 was a major achievement in the endeavour to tackle the problem of global climate change at the dawn of the 21st century. After many years of involvement in the negotiation process, the book's two internationally recognised authors now offer the international community a first hand and inside perspective of the debate on the Kyoto Protocol. The book provides a comprehensive scholarly analysis of the history and content of the Protocol itself as well as of the economic, political and legal implications of its implementation. It also presents a perspective for the further development of the climate regime. These important features make this book an indispensable working tool for policy makers, negotiators, academics and all those actively involved and interested in climate change issues in both the developed and developing world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical methods play a significant role in the rapidly growing field of nonlinear optical materials. This volume discusses a number of successful or promising contributions. The overall theme of this volume is twofold: (1) the challenges faced in computing and optimizing nonlinear optical material properties; and (2) the exploitation of these properties in important areas of application. These include the design of optical amplifiers and lasers, as well as novel optical switches. Research topics in this volume include how to exploit the magnetooptic effect, how to work with the nonlinear optical response of materials, how to predict laser-induced breakdown in efficient optical devices, and how to handle electron cloud distortion in femtosecond processes.
