Book Synopsis Infinite Homotopy Theory by : H-J. Baues
Download or read book Infinite Homotopy Theory written by H-J. Baues and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-06-30 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with algebraic topology, homotopy theory and simple homotopy theory of infinite CW-complexes with ends. Contrary to most other works on these subjects, the current volume does not use inverse systems to treat these topics. Here, the homotopy theory is approached without the rather sophisticated notion of pro-category. Spaces with ends are studied only by using appropriate constructions such as spherical objects of CW-complexes in the category of spaces with ends, and all arguments refer directly to this category. In this way, infinite homotopy theory is presented as a natural extension of classical homotopy theory. In particular, this book introduces the construction of the proper groupoid of a space with ends and then the cohomology with local coefficients is defined by the enveloping ringoid of the proper fundamental groupoid. This volume will be of interest to researchers whose work involves algebraic topology, category theory, homological algebra, general topology, manifolds, and cell complexes.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Philosophical Logic by : Dov M. Gabbay
Download or read book Handbook of Philosophical Logic written by Dov M. Gabbay and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is with great pleasure that we are presenting to the community the second edition of this extraordinary handbook. It has been over 15 years since the publication of the first edition and there have been great changes in the landscape of philosophical logic since then. The first edition has proved invaluable to generations of students and researchers in formal philosophy and language, as well as to consumers of logic in many applied areas. The main logic artiele in the Encyelopaedia Britannica 1999 has described the first edition as 'the best starting point for exploring any of the topics in logic'. We are confident that the second edition will prove to be just as good. ! The first edition was the second handbook published for the logic commu nity. It followed the North Holland one volume Handbook 0/ Mathematical Logic, published in 1977, edited by the late Jon Barwise. The four volume Handbook 0/ Philosophical Logic, published 1983-1989 came at a fortunate temporal junction at the evolution of logic. This was the time when logic was gaining ground in computer science and artificial intelligence cireles. These areas were under increasing commercial press ure to provide devices which help and/or replace the human in his daily activity. This pressure required the use of logic in the modelling of human activity and organisa tion on the one hand and to provide the theoretical basis for the computer program constructs on the other.

Book Synopsis Mathematics for Engineers and Scientists, Sixth Edition by : Alan Jeffrey
Download or read book Mathematics for Engineers and Scientists, Sixth Edition written by Alan Jeffrey and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-08-10 with total page 1018 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its original publication in 1969, Mathematics for Engineers and Scientists has built a solid foundation in mathematics for legions of undergraduate science and engineering students. It continues to do so, but as the influence of computers has grown and syllabi have evolved, once again the time has come for a new edition. Thoroughly revised to meet the needs of today's curricula, Mathematics for Engineers and Scientists, Sixth Edition covers all of the topics typically introduced to first- or second-year engineering students, from number systems, functions, and vectors to series, differential equations, and numerical analysis. Among the most significant revisions to this edition are: Simplified presentation of many topics and expanded explanations that further ease the comprehension of incoming engineering students A new chapter on double integrals Many more exercises, applications, and worked examples A new chapter introducing the MATLAB and Maple software packages Although designed as a textbook with problem sets in each chapter and selected answers at the end of the book, Mathematics for Engineers and Scientists, Sixth Edition serves equally well as a supplemental text and for self-study. The author strongly encourages readers to make use of computer algebra software, to experiment with it, and to learn more about mathematical functions and the operations that it can perform.
