Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the lecture series sponsored by the Guidance and Control Panel of AGARD and presented in Paris in June 1968. The fourteen chapters cover component testing, assembly testing and system testing of gyros, reference platforms, accelerometers and the design of suitable test equipment. The history and economic justification of gyro testing is also discussed, together with an indication of future trends. The effects of design shortcomings and the various types of gas and hydrostatic motor bearings on gyro testing and test specifications are described. The book is concluded by the edited proceedings of a discussion which reveals the testing system philosophy and the test specification and interface problems faced by designers, test engineers, and manufacturers. Book Synopsis Earth Motions and Their Effects on Inertial Instrument Performance by : Robert A. Gray
Download or read book Earth Motions and Their Effects on Inertial Instrument Performance written by Robert A. Gray and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A limiting factor in realizing the ultimate sensitivity and associated system accuracy of the more advanced inertial guidance instrumentation is the adverse influence of earth motions on performance. Motions of concern to inertial guidance testing and operations are categorized as propagating and non-propagating. Propagating motions include earth background noise and seismic events while non-propagating motions include local and regional tilts, earth tides, polar wobble, irregularities in earth rate, and precession. Motion measurement philosophy and instrumentation are discussed. (Author).

Book Synopsis A Motion Study of the Frank J. Seiler Research Laboratory Guidance Test Facility by : Francis A. Crowley
Download or read book A Motion Study of the Frank J. Seiler Research Laboratory Guidance Test Facility written by Francis A. Crowley and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motion measurements taken at the inertial guidance test facility of the Frank J. Seiler Research Laboratory are applied to problems of facility design and inertial hardware testing. Motion measurements are processed to form unambiguous estimates of platform strain, rotation, and translation to allow a determination of the loop response of the test platform to ground motion and intralaboratory disturbances. In its open loop state, intralaboratory disturbances are found to be dominant source of platform motion, even under quiet conditions. (Author).

Download or read book Strapdown Inertial Navigation Technology written by David Titterton and published by IET. This book was released on 2004 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inertial navigation is widely used for the guidance of aircraft, missiles ships and land vehicles, as well as in a number of novel applications such as surveying underground pipelines in drilling operations. This book discusses the physical principles of inertial navigation, the associated growth of errors and their compensation. It draws current technological developments, provides an indication of potential future trends and covers a broad range of applications. New chapters on MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) technology and inertial system applications are included.

Book Synopsis Gravitation and Inertia by : Ignazio Ciufolini
Download or read book Gravitation and Inertia written by Ignazio Ciufolini and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-06-26 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Einstein's standard and battle-tested geometric theory of gravity--spacetime tells mass how to move and mass tells spacetime how to curve--is expounded in this book by Ignazio Ciufolini and John Wheeler. They give special attention to the theory's observational checks and to two of its consequences: the predicted existence of gravitomagnetism and the origin of inertia (local inertial frames) in Einstein's general relativity: inertia here arises from mass there. The authors explain the modern understanding of the link between gravitation and inertia in Einstein's theory, from the origin of inertia in some cosmological models of the universe, to the interpretation of the initial value formulation of Einstein's standard geometrodynamics; and from the devices and the methods used to determine the local inertial frames of reference, to the experiments used to detect and measure the "dragging of inertial frames of reference." In this book, Ciufolini and Wheeler emphasize present, past, and proposed tests of gravitational interaction, metric theories, and general relativity. They describe the numerous confirmations of the foundations of geometrodynamics and some proposed experiments, including space missions, to test some of its fundamental predictions--in particular gravitomagnetic field or "dragging of inertial frames" and gravitational waves.
