While Woodroffe's position may not be popular among today's historians, there is no arguing with the compelling and detailed logic delineated in "The Rubber Industry of the Amazon." This book tells a fascinating story of civilization and industrialization, and clearly articulates a staunchly conservative view of capitalism.
