Book excerpt: Diamond's supreme properties can be realized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of diamond films with many applications, such as cutting tools, tweeter diaphragms, deep ultraviolet light-emitting diodes, radomes, CPU transistors, quantum computer, and MEMs. This volume provides extensive reviews on various CVD methods with examples. Meanwhile, there are other forms of carbon coatings, including diamond-like carbon, carbon nanotubes, and graphene. These carbon coatings possess properties derived from diamond. For example, graphene is actually flattened diamond’s (111) face with superb electrical and thermal conductivities. For the first time, this book reveals a catalytic method to grow single-crystal graphene, whose applications are expected in heat spreaders, battery electrodes, interconnected circuits, and 6G antennae.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diamonds have long been bloody. A new history shows how Germany’s ruthless African empire brought diamond rings to retail display cases in America—at the cost of African lives. Since the late 1990s, activists have campaigned to remove “conflict diamonds” from jewelry shops and department stores. But if the problem of conflict diamonds—gems extracted from war zones—has only recently generated attention, it is not a new one. Nor are conflict diamonds an exception in an otherwise honest industry. The modern diamond business, Steven Press shows, owes its origins to imperial wars and has never escaped its legacy of exploitation. In Blood and Diamonds, Press traces the interaction of the mass-market diamond and German colonial domination in Africa. Starting in the 1880s, Germans hunted for diamonds in Southwest Africa. In the decades that followed, Germans waged brutal wars to control the territory, culminating in the genocide of the Herero and Nama peoples and the unearthing of vast mineral riches. Press follows the trail of the diamonds from the sands of the Namib Desert to government ministries and corporate boardrooms in Berlin and London and on to the retail counters of New York and Chicago. As Africans working in terrifying conditions extracted unprecedented supplies of diamonds, European cartels maintained the illusion that the stones were scarce, propelling the nascent U.S. market for diamond engagement rings. Convinced by advertisers that diamonds were both valuable and romantically significant, American purchasers unwittingly funded German imperial ambitions into the era of the World Wars. Amid today’s global frenzy of mass consumption, Press’s history offers an unsettling reminder that cheap luxury often depends on an alliance between corporate power and state violence.

In my attempt to simplify how we read and interpret a complicated book like the Bible, I am writing things from the Bible in parts. In this book Diamonds, you will read about women that I have compared to jewels. There are Women of Honor, Notable Women, Great Women, Women of Character, Strong Women, Beautiful Women, Famous Women and Infamous Women. These women are true Diamonds In The Rough. I say they are diamonds in the rough because they lived all the way back in the Bible days where women had no rights at all. They could not even speak in the church. They would have to keep silent until they reached home and then talk to men about the service. (1 Cor. 14:34): Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. (1 Cor. 14:35): And if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. Some women are polished gemstones, some are natural uncut, unpolished, some are rough, but polished and some are blood diamonds, like Jezebel. You will recognize each gem. Women now have an organization named National Organization For Women (NOW). They were organized in 1966. The National Organization for Women is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW has more than 500,000 contributing members and more than 500 local and campus affliates in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Since their founding in 1966, Nows goal has been to take action to bring about equality for all women. Both the actions NOW take and its position on the issues are principled, uncompromising and often ahead of their time. NOW is a leader, not a follower, of public opinion.

Book excerpt: Diamonds invites readers to consider examples of life-changing experiences where objects move from darkness into the light to receive encouragement and enlightenment in their own journey of life. How do you hold onto your faith when moving from one season to the next or when life circumstances are telling you to let go? Just as diamonds are created under immerse pressure, the challenges we face in life often bring us closer to God. Readers are asked to approach the material in this book with an open mind. While it may not apply to your present circumstances, Diamonds is meant to enlighten you and give you the tools to help yourself or others.
