The radiation chemistry of aqueous solutions of various amino acids and proteins is considered in detail from this viewpoint. Effects of oxygen and other solutes are discussed. Particular reference is given to: (a) studies of the radiation-induced oxidation of protein in oxygenated solutions (b) studies of radical-radical reaction in oxygen-free protein solutions containing a simple C/sup 14-/ labeled organic solute such as CH/sub 3/C/sup 14/OOH.
