This book was released on 2000 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eight papers from a recent meeting explore areas including evolution and spectral problems related to small motions of viscoelastic fluid, functional equations and functional operator equations, isomorphism of ideals regarded as Galois modules of complete discrete valuation fields with residue field of positive characteristics, and spectral problems in singularly perturbed domains and selfadjoint extensions of differential operators. Other topics are discrete spectrum in gaps of the spectrum under strong perturbations of fixed sign, and compactification of a locally compact group. Lacks a subject index. Book Synopsis Introduction to Topology by : V. A. Vasilʹev
Download or read book Introduction to Topology written by V. A. Vasilʹev and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This English translation of a Russian book presents the basic notions of differential and algebraic topology, which are indispensable for specialists and useful for research mathematicians and theoretical physicists. In particular, ideas and results are introduced related to manifolds, cell spaces, coverings and fibrations, homotopy groups, homology and cohomology, intersection index, etc. The author notes, "The lecture note origins of the book left a significant imprint on itsstyle. It contains very few detailed proofs: I tried to give as many illustrations as possible and to show what really occurs in topology, not always explaining why it occurs." He concludes, "As a rule, only those proofs (or sketches of proofs) that are interesting per se and have importantgeneralizations are presented."

Book Synopsis Guide to Information Sources in Mathematics and Statistics by : Martha A. Tucker
Download or read book Guide to Information Sources in Mathematics and Statistics written by Martha A. Tucker and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2004-09-30 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a reference for librarians, mathematicians, and statisticians involved in college and research level mathematics and statistics in the 21st century. We are in a time of transition in scholarly communications in mathematics, practices which have changed little for a hundred years are giving way to new modes of accessing information. Where journals, books, indexes and catalogs were once the physical representation of a good mathematics library, shelves have given way to computers, and users are often accessing information from remote places. Part I is a historical survey of the past 15 years tracking this huge transition in scholarly communications in mathematics. Part II of the book is the bibliography of resources recommended to support the disciplines of mathematics and statistics. These are grouped by type of material. Publication dates range from the 1800's onwards. Hundreds of electronic resources-some online, both dynamic and static, some in fixed media, are listed among the paper resources. Amazingly a majority of listed electronic resources are free.
Download or read book Real Analysis written by Barry Simon and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2015-11-02 with total page 811 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Comprehensive Course in Analysis by Poincaré Prize winner Barry Simon is a five-volume set that can serve as a graduate-level analysis textbook with a lot of additional bonus information, including hundreds of problems and numerous notes that extend the text and provide important historical background. Depth and breadth of exposition make this set a valuable reference source for almost all areas of classical analysis. Part 1 is devoted to real analysis. From one point of view, it presents the infinitesimal calculus of the twentieth century with the ultimate integral calculus (measure theory) and the ultimate differential calculus (distribution theory). From another, it shows the triumph of abstract spaces: topological spaces, Banach and Hilbert spaces, measure spaces, Riesz spaces, Polish spaces, locally convex spaces, Fréchet spaces, Schwartz space, and spaces. Finally it is the study of big techniques, including the Fourier series and transform, dual spaces, the Baire category, fixed point theorems, probability ideas, and Hausdorff dimension. Applications include the constructions of nowhere differentiable functions, Brownian motion, space-filling curves, solutions of the moment problem, Haar measure, and equilibrium measures in potential theory.
Download or read book Algebra and Geometry written by Hongxi Wu and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-09-08 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second of three volumes that, together, give an exposition of the mathematics of grades 9–12 that is simultaneously mathematically correct and grade-level appropriate. The volumes are consistent with CCSSM (Common Core State Standards for Mathematics) and aim at presenting the mathematics of K–12 as a totally transparent subject. The first part of this volume is devoted to the study of standard algebra topics: quadratic functions, graphs of equations of degree 2 in two variables, polynomials, exponentials and logarithms, complex numbers and the fundamental theorem of algebra, and the binomial theorem. Having translations and the concept of similarity at our disposal enables us to clarify the study of quadratic functions by concentrating on their graphs, the same way the study of linear functions is greatly clarified by knowing that their graphs are lines. We also introduce the concept of formal algebra in the study of polynomials with complex coefficients. The last three chapters in this volume complete the systematic exposition of high school geometry that is consistent with CCSSM. These chapters treat the geometry of the triangle and the circle, ruler and compass constructions, and a general discussion of axiomatic systems, including non-Euclidean geometry and the celebrated work of Hilbert on the foundations. This book should be useful for current and future teachers of K–12 mathematics, as well as for some high school students and for education professionals.
Download or read book Number Theory written by Róbert Freud and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-10-08 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Number Theory is a newly translated and revised edition of the most popular introductory textbook on the subject in Hungary. The book covers the usual topics of introductory number theory: divisibility, primes, Diophantine equations, arithmetic functions, and so on. It also introduces several more advanced topics including congruences of higher degree, algebraic number theory, combinatorial number theory, primality testing, and cryptography. The development is carefully laid out with ample illustrative examples and a treasure trove of beautiful and challenging problems. The exposition is both clear and precise. The book is suitable for both graduate and undergraduate courses with enough material to fill two or more semesters and could be used as a source for independent study and capstone projects. Freud and Gyarmati are well-known mathematicians and mathematical educators in Hungary, and the Hungarian version of this book is legendary there. The authors' personal pedagogical style as a facet of the rich Hungarian tradition shines clearly through. It will inspire and exhilarate readers.
