Book excerpt: The design of this study was to evaluate narrative research from schools around the country who have implemented Professional Learning Communities in their schools with those who do not. Since the case study factored results of this change at three levels: principals, teachers, and students, this study charts the results of districts who have utilized the resources provided by the addition of Professional Learning Communities. The achievement scores of students prior and after the PLC implementation provides a basis for correlation between factors. The data collected was academic achievement scores from the standardized tests at participating Professional Learning Community schools. For analyzing the data, student test scores of Professional Learning Community groups and random samples of schools who have yet to implement Professional Learning Community processes into their classrooms was compared. The data was analyzed according to test scores, staff retention, administrator observations, categories, patterns and/or trends. Conclusions and suggestions/recommendations were drawn from these analyses.
